I feel this song is a wonderful representation of Alex's character. In a good comparison, this song is similar to Buddy's "my dad", but Alex is much more mature than Buddy, so his discontent and sadness is represented through quiet suffering rather than explosive hatred.
Oh... Oh my gosh, it just dawned on me that this is Alex's "My Dad" song... I loved this area's music, but I guess I never gave it a good deep listen. This is honestly horribly sad. Because where in Buddy's version she is lamenting her repressed love for her Dad, Alex is trying so damn hard to find something, ANYTHING, worth living for. Like, yes suicide is a constant theme in Lisa. But, I truly feel that Alex is someone who knows that they can end their own life at anytime, yet they continuously choose to push forward. Alex is such a great character for a multitude of reasons. But, most of all, I adore their ability to look on the bright-side, while also making people feel good along the way. So now, in my own personal head-canon, I believe that during this scene Alex is self-reflecting on all that he has seen in Garbage Island and Downtown Olathe. Like, "Maybe there really isn't anything good left in this world..." or "Please let there be someone in this hell-hole that is sane, just one person, please..." I am so glad that I looked up this song, thank you for posting an extended version.
which is why i believe that what alex truly appreciates the most is a sense of family. even in his search for a place to call home, it is more of a search for people than for a place. beth was the first person he called when he felt like the world crumbled upon him. beth was the last person he saw before he lost his mind and humanity. and throughout the game, i think it is truly his party that keeps him going. mainly joel. don't get me wrong, he isn't innocent, nor is he particularly kind towards strangers, but when he does care about someone he is ready to fight for them. you can see that people he chooses to let in mean a lot to him and what you said, i kinda think they are the only thing that keeps him going as he starts to doubt home exists. even if he would have thoughts of taking his own life, he wouldn't leave joel behind, defenseless, not at this point. all of this really makes 3rd fold ending hit so much harder. because it is so out of character. because once franchise gets to you, it truly doesn't matter who you used to be.
This is one of the most greatest, soulful, funny, grimdark, and philosophically important anti fascist games ever made. And it's free. And... it's niche. But God. Those who know about it KNOW about it.
A place seemingly untouched by man, free of blood and violence. The perfect place for Alex to think over his entire life and the events that got him where he is today. Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't, but if it weren't for those experiences, there'd be no reason to keep trudging forward.
Dang, this song is more sad when you progress to much in the mountain, killing every single miniboss... Seing all those places with people now with just blood and their dead bodies around everywhere... Makes you somehow feel guilty for their death.
This is such a calm melancholy song for a tragic chaotic place. Could you do an extension of the song MISERY that plays in the desert village? (twilight plaza I think it's called)

Especially after the long and fruitless life he has lived.

Yes, but something I didn't like is that all of these scenes are like: I just met you 5 minutes ago but you have a good heart

"You jumped that fishing platform like you could swim."
@@alexis_electronic I know, that is why I said they could end there life at any point. He is still making the decision to press forward though.

The static is my favorite part about this song. Like listening to an old record, calming
