- The Fuzzy ooze/ink. Definitely the strangest thing to come from the new Splatoon 3 trailer. But what exactly is it? There's no way to know for sure, but that most certainly can't stop us from speculating and making Splatoon theories on it!

that oil spill connection is really neat, never thought of it or have seen anyone else bring it up!
The eye thing doesn't look like just eye color, to me it almost looks like the eyes have gone see through and that the octarians are FILLED with the fuzzy ooze which explains why the inklings and octolings eyes look normal but they have much more fur/hair, they're exposed EXTERNALLY while the the octo troopers are exposed to it internally which leads to the loss of self and more limited hair growth

2:58 I think it more or less morphs with the Octarians because their physiology is still different than that from the regular Inklings and Octolings I believe. They aren't capable of a humanoid form and maybe that could be a link why their body reacts completely different to this fuzzy ooze I think.. And maybe because of the harsh environments and low energy problems in their domes due to the war with the Inklings they maybe have addapted themselves to harsh influences by environments and such. So maybe it could be possible they can handle more of this fuzzy ooze compared to Inklings. The new Agent 3 is maybe native to the harsh environments of Splatsville. But we see they take a train to the area so it's also possible Agent 3 isn't native to this place and not to harsh environments making the fuzzy ooze reacting different on them?
My little theory:
The oil is Omega-3, coming from the salmonid eggs. Omega-3 assists in hair growth, and is found normally in fish eggs. The salmonid eggs you collect during Salmon run are probably used by Mr. Grizz to create hair growth fuel (?) and then to ‘replicate’ mammals. :D
I think it might me like that!
The way the fur seems to just spread? It reminds me a little of mold and fungi spores. There are species of fungi in the jungle that spread via spore and brain wash any and other insects before using these hosts as nutrients so maybe a connection there.

My theory is that the fuzzy ooze is a form of rapidly growing mold that affects the brain, preventing affected individuals from thinking straight or moving. this mold evolved to work on octarians, but since inklings are a different species, it affects them differently. salmonids are completely immune to the effects, and can even consume it without harming themselves.
Al right, after watching this I have a theory. Everyone seems to be making connections to the ooze and sanitisation. But what I don’t often see is the correlation between grizz and tartar. Think about it. Tartar hates squids and Octo. Grizz hates salmon. So, what if grizz was a back up if tartar failed. With there ai linked, grizz would think tartar is superior. So when tartar realised “hey, this sanitisation suck” he calls out to grizz and makes him uses the fuzzy ooze in an old research lab in alterna, able to make mammals. So he kidnaps Octarians and well. Splatoon 3 story mode :/

I feel like the reason fuzzy octo people affected to the ooz like the inklings is cause their body is different. Like that’s why they’re wasn’t octolongs in the trailer. Maybe it affects the hem the same way as inklings. AND maybe that’s why Octavio might be working w/ us.

But on the oil thing, I think you are on to something here, the look is pretty similar. Maybe it’s is more of a over time exposure however, think how large quantities of X-rays or gamma rays are dangerous if taken in at once but small quantities are also dangerous if exposed for longer periods of time. I think it would be cool if there was no real bad guy but it was just some kind of accidental creation/discovery that led to the fuzzy ooze spreading. To kinda go on with that but also not really, what if it is a failed (or successful) attempt at a bio weapon by an existing or not yet revealed party in the splatoon universe intended to, well, be a weapon of mass destruction. I mean yeah it’s dark but tbh splatoon lore is about on par with war hammer 40k lore in terms of darkness so…
Yeah indeed. It would be cooler if little buddy eats the fuzzy ooze from the hairy octolings or octarians and then getting those octarians and octolings as some sort of friends or helpers in the hero mode.
I'm starting to wonder if only octarians turned into those hairy versions.. Or that we could find those female Octoling soldiers like this as well
@@iris1568 I do actually like the idea of lil buddy acting as a improv “cure” for the ooze, I’m kinda hoping that the furry octarians are all there is though, while the rival octolings are fun to fight, I feel a little bad when I kill them cause now that octo expansion exists they have some backstory.
@@rafeyos3396 Yeah same. Let's hope the rival Octolings will finally become our Allies this time due to (probably grizzco) being the threat for both Inkling and Octoling society this time
Considering of how many octolings left and been free from dj octavio's hypnotization it's probably slim, but yet again we're probably gonna have to either ways, hopefully they at least spice things up with the levels like how they did in octo expansion like how they gave the sanitized octolings dualies, or octobrushes. Also it would be interesting if rival octolings had a different reaction than playable octolings when in contact with the fuzzy ooze.

God, I know I'm gonna play the hero mode, step in the TINIEST LITTLE PUDDLE of this ooze and explode, and I'm gonna pop a hole in my switch.
Mabey the location is an abandoned lab, the ooze started spreading, infecting many, also the fuzzy ocatrians may be captured testing animals on an injection, but it leaked, causing the fuzzy ooze

I hope not as well. But based on what I've seen in the first trailer before the second, hero mode trailer, the player can already choose between the Inkling and Octoling species. So my thought is, if Nintendo chose the Inkling and that's the same Inkling we also see in the second trailer when hero mode comes in, it probably means that if you choose for an Octoling, the Octoling becomes the next Agent 3 this time

my explanation of a question that was asked many times : "why can the little buddy eat the goo and why isn't he affected ?"
the creators have said multiple time "inklings and octarians are very different from salmonoides" I think they were talking about cultural differences, but I wanna go on the physical differences. inklings and octarians have skin, not salmonoides, they have scales, wich explains why they could be immune to the goo because hair don't grow on scales ! and I think it could be very important for the game. Imagine octarians and inklings asking for salmonoides help in the grand finale because they are the only one immune to the goo ? this making a new alliance ?
I think the reason why Octarians are affected differently is because they're artificially made unlike their Octoling counterpart so it's likely some form of sanitization. I'm going to go more in depth in an upcoming video but there's a snipit of one of them.
Now the final question:

Some kind of fuel or new kind oil humanity made during the wars could be an answer. Humans trying different methods to clean up this harmful substance. So they tryed anything and starting to test animal fur and the only animal that could help was bear fur..
(yes the Mr. Grizz being a real bear theory is not my favorite but hear me out)
Humans only having bear warnings at ark porlaris is because humans having not alot of time to escape earth and taking the only animal that can clean up this harmful oil with them. Humans also ignoring the harm they are causing to there lab animals just to get an outcome quickly. Plus if they left to fast for space they could not see what they made, terrible bear based radiation monster or oil becoming more like a bio weapon due to complications with live animal testing.
Idea 1 The bear monster could explain grizz as an animal so corrupted from an bear to more as a undying creature of suffering wanting to hunt down what made it to get revenge. Not cleaning up the ooze and just living in infected domes thinking no one would find him there so he can't be stopped.
Part 2 the ooze infected others like a infection or virus with bear dna, and just hopping from body to body. The octarians just being a part of a creature and not a full one, let's the oil infect, then just overwhelm and kill making a army of spreading hosts.
Can't wait to see the reveal of this mystery til Splatoon 3.
The ink in both of the splat 3 trailers look more matte than glossy like in splat 1
The whole oil spill connection totally makes me think of fossil fuels. Humans are technically fossils in the splatoon universe, so this makes me think that the fuzzy goop is basically human oil (and the fact that its wordplay. We secrete oil naturally from our skin, its a perfect pun!). It's kind of dark, but the splatoon franchise is no stranger to dark and deep plotlines.

If the hair like material absorbs oil then it would absob the ink Of ink based creaturs covering them in "hair" inklings and octolings are almost. Made entirely of ink and oil with some cartilage and there beak so there completely absorbed by the fur while non octolling octarians. Probably are less ink based idk

One question is, has the Inkling's body changed a bit when they get covered in it and grow all that hair? The arms and legs look normal, and we can also guess the body too, but what about the head? The eyes are different from what the Inkling had, so did their head change or something?
