I think that is how he broke out. After that we saw him everywhere. His range is amazing. A mentally ill person to Davy Crockett. Comedy and drama. It is amazing how his appearance has changed. In this video he is heavy.
It's my favorite movie of all time. Not only because its an excellent excellent movie but it reminds me of summers in the latter part of the 90s as a teenager hanging out with my friends getting stoned playing music getting laid... good times.
I think the the character of Carl (for Billy Bob) was probably initiated subliminally from the character of 'Boo Radley' from the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. Ironically, that role was played by Robert Duvall. Boo never spoke, but you can see that both were sensitive good men in their hearts that loved, and ultimately protected children. Both were mentally and emotionally challenged. Both Carl and Boo felt compelled to kill to protect a child/children. Look and see how Boo was dressed and then look at Carl, even down to the haircut. I thin it was no accident that Robert Duvall was in Slingblade.
Ol Billy Bob is one of those men who became handsome the older he got. Granted he was filming here but y’all just look him up through the years and see. I’m the other type man who went from handsome to old looking over night at 35 😂. Bless my wife’s heart.
Thanks for putting this "Making of" online. I had recorded it in VHS many years ago but can't seem to find the tape. Seeing this old (younger) Billy Bob Thornton and the new (older) one seems like seeing a ressurection of the man. I think Angelina Jolie wouldn't look twice to this Billy Bob and even less marry him, but it's the same man. He is an inspiration for all the guys entering the 40s! :)
Sungodv The movie he was filming here needed him to be a little plump and pale. They put a lot of pale makeup and possibly shaved his hairline. Later, I do think he had a transplant. If he did, it took REALLY WELL.
I always wondered how he came up with that brilliant character. "Bad acid flashback" my ass lol. He's one creative bastard who had a moment of epiphany with the collective unconscious and actually did something with it. Thankfully he had the means to share it with us all. If you like character pieces check him out as Jacob in A Simple Plan by Scott B. Smith...also brilliant.
Great film. We call it a slash hook. It is a popular implement to bring to weddings & funerals and other formal family events where each family may have differences and wish to express them without resorting to name calling or other unpleasant means.
did JT walsh ever watch and study serial killer interviews...particularly gerard schaefer cuz his performance was nearly identical to him..mannerisms/smile/glasses... it creeped me out.. he was an awesome actor
Something is very wrong. I'm usually great at recognizing faces, but this looks absolutely nothing like Billy Bob Thornton to me. I think I'm losing it

I forgot Molly Ringwald was in this....its sad she isnt in the full film. I love her hair like that...was thus about the same time she was in The Stand? The Stand is one of my favourite movies....er... mini series, i meam
After slingblade he tells lipton from inside the actor's studio when asked how he came up with karl, bb said that half came from a black guy and half from a white guy both of whom he knew when he was a boy. I'm not being critical but curious.
One of the best films I’ve ever seen. Every single actor absolutely nailed their parts and made it such a joy to watch.
I had never heard of Billy Bob Thorton until i saw the movie Sling Blade. One of my all time favorite movies.A classic.

it's awesome seeing him "in costume" but as his normal self because somehow he looks completely different when he's playing the character
THIS AINT GOT NO GAS IN IT.
It's so strange to see him in costume as Carl without the voice
He's still the best Karl Childers impersonator

Interesting observation
Thorton called Karl a cross between Boo Radley and Frankenstein
@@piratepete842he saw Billy say it in another interview 😂 so did I n now he’s acting like he just thought that up😂
Great video!! Thanks Billy Bob Thorton! You nailed that character in Sling Blade.

BBT is one of the greatest. hope he does another sling blade-type film. small, independent, character driven. i'd be first in line.

I reckon I give this a like, hmmhm
Aight then, mmmhm
Mmmmmmm Hmmmmm
He's an excellent actor!!
Becoming a vegan sure knocked the weight off Billy Bob. It looks like he got hair plugs somewhere down the line, I reckon...mmm hmm. Alright then.
I like the way you tawk!.. lol
You know how you can pick out a "vegan" at a party? ANSWER - You don't have to....they'll TELL you.
+Bunk Man haha...so true!

Slingblade is a great film... Karl's character is genius!
he handsomed up in the early 2000s. and you gotta admit he's a very talented guy. women go for that.

He's an amazing actor
This dude bagged a young prime Angelina Jolie.
0:02 Billy Bob looked like a real southern killer here!
Love the score in this film.
Great film. We call it a slash hook. It is a popular implement to bring to weddings & funerals and other formal family events where each family may have differences and wish to express them without resorting to name calling or other unpleasant means.
Billy is a little chubby in this video, amazing actor and it's good to see him as a good guy in a movie.
Is there not a "making of" video of the 1996 Sling Blade movie ?
I don't know if people know this but some call it a kaiser blade but most call it a sling blade.
molly looks like my literature teacher here lol
did JT walsh ever watch and study serial killer interviews...particularly gerard schaefer cuz his performance was nearly identical to him..mannerisms/smile/glasses... it creeped me out.. he was an awesome actor
He really was. He always did his homework.
If Thornton denies getting hair plugs, he's a complete liar. LOL
I was really impressed with the whole cast and yes definitely Billy Bob was awesome but so was Lucas Black and Dwight yoakam and the mother
BB is very diverse....great range....I love all of his movies
Something is very wrong. I'm usually great at recognizing faces, but this looks absolutely nothing like Billy Bob Thornton to me. I think I'm losing it

So....Billy Bob's had ALOT of work done....
That thumbnail is more Chilling than the video, major image change with bbt, wow, mm mmm

Gosh molly is so beautiful! Is she in the movie?
Lmfao he looks so weird in his costume when he isn't in character
So what's the difference between this and the movie sling blade?
A. the feature film gets u in yo feels
Looks like Agent Smith (Matrix) before he became an agent haha.
So in the reunion show clip he says he got the character from two people he knew growing up in arkansas and one he worked with in texas. Hmmm.
I forgot Molly Ringwald was in this....its sad she isnt in the full film.
I love her hair like that...was thus about the same time she was in The Stand? The Stand is one of my favourite movies....er... mini series, i meam

I heard from his mouth, that Karl is an amalgamation of old men he knew as a result of being a janitor in an old folks home
He has more hair on his eyebrows than on his head!!!
I like that one dudes impression of George Lucas
molly, molly ringwald, your my wife!?!
Molly Ringwald was in this movie?
I love molly's gummy smile!
Seems like the other characters are different from the ones in the movie
Make me sum mustrd & biscuits, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
16 candles down the drain!
Aright then
Billy Bob looks alot like jaco pasturios.
He was so much heavier during that time.
@winxniw They want him to; He's in make up... not that the Karl character was a vampire..
What is it 🤔
Billy Bob hardly looks like his modern self here
This interview was done before Billy Bob hooked up with Angelina Jole and all that cocaine they were doing.
He looks like a different person lol I knew him form bad santa
Why wasn't Molly in the movie?
Is that Molly Ringwold
Be great if people made movies again instead of “ events “ less Disney more independent.
