Surely a combination of physical fences and electronic barriers are way more effective. If he wants to keep Mexicans away, he should help improve conditions in there, help to combat arms traffic (the same way that drugs flow north, weapons flow south and are spreading violence), help to combat drug addiction in US (if demand slows down, drugs will flow to other markets), help to create jobs thru business deals and agreements. So many things that he could do, but he cares only to talk to the stupid 1/3 1/4 of US.

What if the person you are detaining decides they aren't going to "Stay detained". The only thing a civilian can do, and legally the military police, is to say: "You committed a crime. I'm calling the police. You STAY RIGHT THERE". If the person being detained says: "Screw you, I'm leaving"; what are your options. Armed military police and/or armed civilians can NOT brandish their weapon on a potential criminal unless they feel their life is IMMEDIATELY being threatened. In other words, if the detainee says: "Screw you, I'm leaving", you can't pull a gun on them.The President is not allowed to use the military as his private police force! The military would have every right to stand down unless Drumpf declares Martial Law! Over a border that doesn't have anyone en masse coming over it?

This makes sense because the Posse Comitas Act passed by Congress in 1878 restricts the use of military forces to enforce the law inside of the United States.
