Conservative Mike Johnson elected House speaker

At the Capitol, Republicans elected a new Speaker of the House: Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana. With only six years in Congress, Johnson has the least amount of experience for any speaker in 140 years and has one of the most conservative records yet. He supports a nationwide abortion ban, is not in favor of protections for same-sex marriage, and voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
