I've noticed that as events go, a Core Stone isn't particularly difficult. Its just a swarm that pops in with conditions to defeat. The Core Spawns themselves are a little tougher than glyphids, but not overly so. No, what makes the Core Stone fight terrifying is the *sound* of it: between the music, the spawns screaming (aided quite a bit by how unsettling they look and move) the rifts opening up... it all looks and sounds like a nightmare. Of course if you pop it open right as someone else digs out an egg, you're gonna have a bad time.
I think the big thing about corestone that makes it hard is its practically the whiplash-opposite of every other fight, you're wired wrong from the start: Most rez options like c4 or cryo are not great (pheremones are alright, being about as 80% reliable as always) ,leaving it somewhat down to gunny alone for rezzes. That lowers the bar for failure for starters quite a lot. Then there's how you handle it: With other fights there's a clear pattern for how to make the fight easier on yourselves or succeed. swarm? Corestone? Killing the swarmers does nothing of major consequence. There's going to be more coming. Your sole goal is to kill that core stone, NOW. bar solo scouting on aquarq mission, and normal dreads (singular enemy or what is essence 2 heads of 1 enemy with twins) and some machine events, the priority in heavy combat situations is killing minor enemies to prevent getting swarmed when able, followed by the other objectives / technicalities of the fight. The core stone flips this by making anything beyond applying stun/slow mostly a waste of effort on the mooks. Compound this with the fact that the core spawn can overwhelm you pretty fast if you play them wrong, and you have an OMEN like situation where if countered properly, it's not that hard, but if you're figuring things out for yourself, its going to be a rough first few times
I made the terrible mistake of willingly mining a core stone open when molly was already called and i had 4 minutes left to get to the drop pod. Needless to say, this theme playing in the background made adrenaline rush through my veins. yes, i made it with
You get so used to killing any bugs you see while doing an objective, and this turns that on its head. Crawlers infinitely respawn, and have a bit too much health to mow down. So instead, you wanna just put debilitating status effects on them (electricity, freeze, fear, etc.) to get them off you, and focus on bursting the core stone down.
They're definitely a major threat if you don't understand what's going on. With the other machine events, if shit goes wrong, you do have the option to bail, event will automatically end itself after 3 minutes or so. Core stone, meanwhile, if your team starts falling and there's no shield ready, situation is going to snowball fast.
I think they only respawn when you start attacking the core directly, I've had moments where the core crawlers would stop spawning, until I started attacking the core directly then more would swarm me.
i like how this theme went for a different approach. unlike others which focused on the synth, this one leans into the percussion (something along those lines, the synth is a bit different too)

This definitely adds the sci-fi to DRG. I mean, you mine a bazzare rock, and it starts shooting rifts into the walls, spawning creatures not from these current depths.

even that is not a big deal as You can order Bosco to focus the stone while you just try to survive the Crawlers. Not to mention that there will be less Crawlers spawning when you're playing solo.
"Down there in the dark things are familiar, until the wrong light shows itself. It was once a peaceful chaos, but now things are not what they seem anymore" is the vibe for me.
Honestly, as a driller main that got the Fire Wave OC real quickly, these bad boys die in like, 15 seconds or less. Hilarious, but I'm glad I can actually hear the music here.
"They didn't believe me, the company covered it up. No one dared to think I was right. Those things... Hoxxes isn't what you think it is. It's alive, the core. And it's gone rogue. This thing... this planet. It took Karl."
First time I ever ran into one of these things was straight cinematic. I'm scouting around one part of the cave during an elimination assignment while my two buddies are in a different section...when I see this strange purple rock described as "Core Stone Crust" on the laser designator. I mine it out wondering what it is. Then the core stone breaks out, opens actual motherloving portals to Hell itself, and eldritch abominations from nightmares start pouring out of them. My two teammates are minding their own business, when all of a sudden this music turns on, they hear me shout "WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE THINGS?!?" and I get incapacitated moments later. They rush to my rescue only to run into a solid brick wall of lightning-fast demons with toxic blood like they're the frickin' xenomorphs from Aliens. We manage to survive it and shut down the core stone, and after the containment unit launches, we all just look at each other and the now-closed rifts and say "What the actual frak was that BS?" Knowing what I know nowadays, core stones are not THAT hard to fight, even on higher haz levels. But the sheer nightmare fuel of my first encounter with one has left a lasting impression and I still can't bring myself to treat them with anything less than the utmost respect.
The first time i tried a core stone event, i got swarmed in 5 fucking seconds, they are so fucking fast Also they have a human like skull on their face, fucking creepy.
I was doing a Hazard 4 with a Core Store and during the event one of my teammates kept pinging it. So when the horror beyond comprehension is attacking us all I hear is: “I WONDER WHAT R&D WANTS WITH THESE CORE STONES” fucking makes me laugh every time
This sounds heroic, but not like how the standard OST sounds heroic. It sounds like how the Zerg themes sound heroic in star craft. The song drives home thst in this setting, the dwarves are the monsters, the Glyohids are the defenders, trying to repel some horrific invaders that seem hellbent on their complete destruction The dwarves are basically like the Lithophage to any native organic of the planet
This really begs the question, Is Hoxxes more Supernatural then we thought? Or did an Ancient Alien race once own Hoxxes? Either way, they're gonna learn the hard way of why dwarves are the lowest, yet the highest! Rock and Stone Brothers!!!

I think I've just replayed this song back to back at least 10 times today, it's so good
1:44 this is where goosebumps start to appear
I had to fight them while already fighting a dreadnought becasue a greenbeard activated a core stone
o, yeah classic
I had to do it during a korlok tyrant weed fight because my teammate thought it would be funny. It did not end well
"With gray beard comes great responsibility" - Karl, probably
Was playing with a group of 3 green beards, and as a swarm was coming, one accidentally activated Betsy while activating a core stone, we all died
I also had a Dreadnought spawning right in my face while I was already dealing with a Core Stone.
“Hey guys look it’s crying obsidian!”
The worst part about the crawlers is that *no other creature on Hoxxes looks even close to it.*
ah yes
**WORLD OF WARCRAFT**
youtube is a leaf lover.
The sound of realizing that hoxxes hides more devastable creatures that you think or even imagine
GSG dropping bangers as usual
This slaps
This track gives me the jibblies
Brother, get the flamer... The HEAVY flamer !
Too right, brother! The Fire Wave overclock deletes the stone in seconds.
The time signature changes go crazy
I'm hoping that by season 6 or maybe in rogue core, DRG gets some more scary, mysterious, and unsettling elements.
ah the test of "do you have a driller?... I sure hope you do."
1:43 Rock and Stone until its done
Genuinely one of my favourite pieces of music, ever.
The first time I saw them it triggered my "FETCH ME THEIR SOULS!" PTSD.
Looks very much like a predator theme
Honestly, as a driller main that got the Fire Wave OC real quickly, these bad boys die in like, 15 seconds or less. Hilarious, but I'm glad I can actually hear the music here.
"They didn't believe me, the company covered it up. No one dared to think I was right.
Those things... Hoxxes isn't what you think it is. It's alive, the core. And it's gone rogue.
This thing... this planet. It took Karl."
When I first heard this in game I literally screamed irl
We manage to survive it and shut down the core stone, and after the containment unit launches, we all just look at each other and the now-closed rifts and say "What the actual frak was that BS?"
Knowing what I know nowadays, core stones are not THAT hard to fight, even on higher haz levels. But the sheer nightmare fuel of my first encounter with one has left a lasting impression and I still can't bring myself to treat them with anything less than the utmost respect.
really hope drg don't nerf these guys
Core Spawns coming at us! Lock and load!!!
MY LIFE, FOR ROCK AND STONE!!!
This thing makes my palms itch.
It a funny because despite how good the theme is the constant screaming of me and my friends blots it out
Ive done like 10 of these stones, half of en felt like actual Haz5..... The other half felt like a whole war with no quarter in Haz8
Terror. In it's most distilled form.
Never really noticed how fucking diamond-hard this theme goes since all the sound I heard was shooting
The most unsettling thing about this is that they’re *NOT* Glyphids…
1:43
I never get the chance to stop to listen to this track, but dat synth goes hard damn 🪨⛏️
If the rogue core soundtrack is more of this then im excited.
ROCK AND STONE
I swear, the music, Mission Control, and the Dwarves are the only things keeping this game from being a horror game
Rock and stone
THESE THINGS TAKE NO DAMAGE WHAT FHE FU
nah, Its easily killed on the 5 hazard
@@IshakSgorel absolutely not they're very tanky. Best shot I had at them was driller
@@guibeck8259 sounds like you need more damage
@@guibeck8259 try using 3rd secondary on scout 2 shoting thrm
@@IshakSgorelAre you using trifork volley or nah? Cause genuinely they are very, very tanky, especially on hazard 5.
Man all this monster bugs sure are scary but I don’t think it could get worse than this!
Drg:
The first time i tried a core stone event, i got swarmed in 5 fucking seconds, they are so fucking fast
Also they have a human like skull on their face, fucking creepy.
I was doing a Hazard 4 with a Core Store and during the event one of my teammates kept pinging it. So when the horror beyond comprehension is attacking us all I hear is: “I WONDER WHAT R&D WANTS WITH THESE CORE STONES” fucking makes me laugh every time
I wonder what R&D wants with these core stones
This sounds heroic, but not like how the standard OST sounds heroic.
It sounds like how the Zerg themes sound heroic in star craft.
The song drives home thst in this setting, the dwarves are the monsters, the Glyohids are the defenders, trying to repel some horrific invaders that seem hellbent on their complete destruction
The dwarves are basically like the Lithophage to any native organic of the planet
Didn't know World of Warcraft had this banger of a music
Damn, new World of Warcraft soundtrack is banging hard!
This really begs the question,
Is Hoxxes more Supernatural then we thought? Or did an Ancient Alien race once own Hoxxes?
Either way, they're gonna learn the hard way of why dwarves are the lowest, yet the highest!
Rock and Stone Brothers!!!
Do you think you can upload the sound that the resonance crystals make when they have been scanned? Looked around to see if anyone else has isolated it and nobody has yet.
Core Stone event either lasting 30 seconds or 2+ minutes. No in betweens.
this shit slaps
