I've lived in Costa Rica for decades. When I have an option to order a "natural" -- the fruit based drink you had in the soda, I always order either "cas" or "guanabana" in water. The type of drink available will depend on the particular soda and the time of year. There is usually the option to order it "en leche" -- in milk too. The idea behind a casado plate is that there is always rice (not sticky) and beans (usually black beans), with a small portion of cabbage and tomato salad, usually a small portion of baked or fried plantain, and some sort of protein, like beef, chicken, pork and occasionally fish. I don't remember ever hearing about the rice and pineapple drink you had in the soda but I find it on google. Someone retorted the economy has improved. Are we watching the same video? Usually one can judge an economy by the infrastructure and here it's not looking so good. If the "economy" has improved it seems to have only done so for a small fraction of people.
@@q.doneit you wouldn't judge the performance of the economy by looking at a video of one part of one city in an entire country. You'd look at the gdp per capita over time. The most expensive country in Central and South America. Your better off somewhere else. Crime and murder rates are skyrocketing. Don’t be naive, the country is NOT stable. The U.S. State department issued a travel advisory for safety due to climbing crime.
the most expensive ones are Uruguay by far and then Chile and Costa Rica, depending on every aspect it could vary between both countries, but also those 3 countries are the richest, more developed and prosperous compared to the rest of the region. And also those countries are expensive in food or stuff to buy, but the rent prices are far more affordable than in most tourism countries of the Caribbean, Europe, or the US that have double or triple that prices. And also you can get cheaper prices if you ask specific places to locals, the nearby big cities of the country like Alajuela, Cartago or Heredia are far more cheap than the capital and are better to live with prices been 25-50% lower in some cases, and several times more safe, with good access to everything
@ Negative. Costa Rica is #1 with Chile And Uruguay down on the list. Repeatedly on Costa Rican own news reports shown over and over Costa Rica is first most expensive then ironically Mexico so if you want to argue with Costa Rica’s own news sources, then by all means knows yourself out. How about the current crime situation? Not a peep.
@@whiskeykilo2h429 it's stupid to argue with someone that doesn't follow real statistics and cost news and articles, the median prices on every item you buy on the grocery store on Uruguay are like 30% or more higuer than in Costa Rica, just look at the difference in Gasoline and Rent prices all over both countries. You're arguments are stupid, and I'm a Costarrican and know very well how the prices are according to serios media not the populist and not accurate media that just exageres the difference. Even Chile has more higher rent prices and some of the stuff in super market is much higher, that even without mentioning the difference between salaries because in Costa Rica the median salary is higher that in Chile so the purchasing power is more. If you use news report as a source and not pages specialize on quantifying the purchasing power and cost of every country you end with pure fake information.

Also because Nicaragua is less developed, some insurance companies and banks don't work there. I am not saying it's a good or bad thing but it reflects the human rights and freedom of speech situation going on up there.
@@antoniodelrey164 cheap and pretty country, but no freedom and definitely no freedom of speech. As long as you are just visiting, don't criticize the government or anything else you are good. Ever wondered why their citizens flee to CR, US or Europe?
Is that mean Costa Ricans make a lot of money?

San José is EXPENSIVE and quite ugly… you can visit the Landmarks in a couple of hours. I recomend going to the turistic spots Right away and avoid the capital
What a good traveler, and stop giving directions and crap he is experimenting our real culture and capital, it suck’s for sure but it is the reality
San Jose sucks, dirty, high crime, expensive and overrated. Small towns like Sarchi and Grecia are much better,..or
better yet head for Guatemala.
Go to La Fortuna.
Thanks great video... 👊
Wow! Not Costa Rica????$$$$
A casado 4000 colones? Daaaaamn! I remember a casado used to be 2500 colones when I came back to the States in 2016! 😬 Costa Rica used to be a thing back in the 80s. In San Jose, there is nothing to see! It is dirty, a bunch of drugs, and hookers. Costa Rica is waaay too expensive! Colombia is better. It is good only to go on vacations not to live there!
Dude, what is your profession? All these journeys cost a lot of money. It's impressive
Veteran pensión I believe
Go to limon costa rica
It's a shame it's so expensive now.
I was in San Jose and tamarindo back in 2016 it was expensive also .
@@feliymon Tamarindo and Papagayo has always been the most expensive places in Costa Rica. There's hundred of places at the beach with lower prices where locals actually go that are cheaper, Tamarindo is just a gringo town gentrified as s***.

The most expensive country in Central and South America. Your better off somewhere else. Crime and murder rates are skyrocketing. Don’t be naive, the country is NOT stable. The U.S. State department issued a travel advisory for safety due to climbing crime.
Ppl there have become more arrogant where as before they had more of the pura vida vibe…no moee
the most expensive ones are Uruguay by far and then Chile and Costa Rica, depending on every aspect it could vary between both countries, but also those 3 countries are the richest, more developed and prosperous compared to the rest of the region.
You see something in the media and just start to think that's true. Yes Costa Rica is the most expensive in Central America but in Latin America Uruguay is the most expensive on everything. If you use news report as a source and not pages specialize on quantifying the purchasing power and cost of every country you end with pure fake information.

Costa Rica is probably the MOST overrated and overpriced country in America.
They have emphasized a great deal of effort and marketing on selling Costa Rica as some unique paradise when in fact ALL AMERICAN COUNTRIES have what Costa Rica has.
All American countries have lakes, rivers, mountains, volcanoes, forests, beaches, etc., the only difference is that Costa Rica does the marketing and sells itself as something special.
Seems artifical to me the country, military is done by the US, that means they have military, and the democratic standards don't fit to the economic weakness.
The USA does not have military bases in Costa Rica. The only cooperation is to fight drug traffic.
There is nothing correct in this comment. Costa Rica has no military forces at all. Also, is considered a full democracy, ranked 17th out of 167 countries.
@@rociomiranda5684 no, otherwise Nicaragua would long ago have occupied the country. They have a complete sourced out military.
@@its_josue_1849 a full artificial democracy, which is controlled by globalists.
