    • @maineiacts
      @maineiacts 2 роки тому

      Don't you have to apply ' size' ( A tacky substance) to help adhere the gold leaf ( real) and then burnish it..? I recommend looking for videos on how to apply gold leaf go leather bookmaking..? I assume that was what Steel applied to the surface in stabbing with what looked like cotton wad or cloth? Such amazing, time dedicated fantastic work!! You could have special leather stamp( s) made with a title and made by etc to gold leaf..? Also, looked like he heated up those tooling stamps which gives another idea of " wood burning design after you draw it on? Smelly maybe, but looks cool....I've never done it only seen it....or embossing I'm thinking is a better term..
      Much Success....Beautiful craft skill to learn and command...Now that small book binding/ repair shops seem to be fading away but maybe now will be reborn!!? 👍🙋🏻‍♀️🇺🇸

      sea Lemin is helpful in many things. However, with some of thie big things like where to buy your paper stock, no. I
      Do t want to buy my paper from Michael’s and rip the paper out, etc. I need and want large amounts of different kinds of paper to make fountain pen journals for myself that will last throughout time to pass down. I can’t use thick paper with fountain pens either.
      Also again. I need large amounts and large pieces to foodl
      Them correctly to get sizes A5 at the end, or any other size I might want to make, so that at the end the grain of the paper is running in the right direction. I’ve already bound three books only to figure out the grain was in the wrong direction and have ruined my Tomoe River paper that they do not make any longer. I’m very angry about that. I was given the wrong instructions by someone on the internet about this issue specifically and ruined it all. They are already sewn and glued. And the paper is waved and terrible. I haven’t moved in yet because idk what I can do.
      On another note, I also need to know the big things. Like that. And we’re to get the best cover sheets. I also bought the wrong paper for that. Too thick I think.
      And the devices. I can’t afford the large wood devices at this point since I’ve spent it all in tools and everything else. Now I’m stuck. Was attempting to make my own devices and they gave me some terrible wood that I cannot work with because I do not have the tools to plain it and fix warped wood. So I’m not stuck.
      I do wish someone would tell those of us that want to do this the right way, and for the long haul, where to get the paper we need. Without that I get nowhere.
      I wish you luck in your indescribable. If you have any other questions I may be able to help you since I’m in deep myself with some of the tools and what’s good to use, etc. Take care.
      So that’s my problem.

    Hello. I’ve just come across your channel just now and have subbed. I see all I need here to know I want to watch you do your craft.
    I myself are starting down the road on my bookbinding journey. A little late but better than never.
    I am stalled at where to buy the large pieces of paper in a larger amount so that when I fold it down to get to say A5 size, the grain will be in the right direction. I so now want to buy books from the store and rebind them. That’s not where I’m at. I’m looking to go the whole way. So I was wondering how to get what one needs for paper and the right large sheets to fold yourself to make them whatever size you need and do that correctly? I’ve been all over the internet for 6 months and have found nothing. Either that want you to buy thousands of dollars of one kind of paper or they don’t sell anything you might be able to use. As in pre-cut paper that is the wrong size.
    Is there someone or many out there to get the right paper from? I’m at a dead end at this point?
    I’m also stalled because I need to make the devices you have to skive the paper endges and also to hold the book block to glue, etc. Without that I can’t bind the paper I do have because it’s very thin 52gsm paper and it moves all over the place. I don’t have the garage tools to make perfect devices myself. Nothing. What do you suggest?
    Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Take care.

    I was wondering if you had any tips for someone who wants to do this at a hobbyist level, A lot of your equipment looks to be custom made and your techniques seem advanced to me at least, so I'm not sure if this is something you'd be able to do without investing a lot of resources into it at the start. Sorry if that seems like a childish sort of view, I know craftsmen take pride in the hard work and practice they put into their products. I'm just really interested in it but don't have the capital to get all the things I see you using. I managed to make a small booklet when I was younger with a sewing needle and folded paper that was a few pages but that's all I could really manage since I poked out each hole individually with the needle to sew the pages together.
