  • This video walks you through the process of creating a simple finished ground #road #alignment (3D polyline), complete with a cross-sectional profile and cut and fill values.
We start with a #SPLINE entity in BricsCAD, and convert it into a linear polyline with specified #inter #vertex distance, using the #.GT_SPL2PL command in GeoTools. Then, we use the #GT_DRAPEPOLY command to drape this 2d polyline over the underlying #3dfaces terrain model. This converts the alignment into an interpolated 3d polyline.
Next, we use the #GT_PROFILE command to generate a cross-section profile (#L-SECTION). This is the existing ground profile and is a true representation of the terrain. Next, you can draw the finished ground grade. You can do this any of your convenient techniques like using a 2d spline or a 2d polyline.
The #GT_ALIGNMENTCF command is the next tool we use to compute the cut and fill areas (and eventually volume). These are marked along the profile with color-coded hatches.
In addition to the 2D cross-section representation of the finished ground (and cut-fill area markers), a new 3d polyline is created which represents the finished ground profile.
This completes a full cycle of creating a finished ground profile using #GeoTools. We have shown this video on #BricsCAD, and it works equally well on #AutoCAD and other DWG CAD platforms as well.
