This tornado is going to be studied for years for so many factors. The possible complete track for more than 230 miles is one thing, but also the rarity of this tornado producing strong/violent damage for what seems like entire counties when some of the strongest tornadoes keep their peak strength for maybe a neighborhood or just a mile or two. From the pictures I have seen, this tornado may not have even been at peak strength in Mayfield. A lot of possible EF-5 damage towards Princeton and Bremen WELL after dark.
So far its been high end EF 2, low end EF 3 damage. But the unprecedented length and time on the ground is what sets this one in the record books. It supercedes a lot of EF 4 and EF 5 tornadoes just due to that record long damage path.
@@lolmetswhathappeneduhhh2029 its going to get ef5 rating the damage in princeton,bremen and areas slightly north east of bremen got completely wiped off the map with foundations left standing in some causes ripped from the earth along with deep ground scaring with trees completely stripped to nothing left.
@@mionaruse2748 lots of structures were reported to have failed at well below EF5 threshold. They have to go look st things like how well bolted into the ground structures were, id rhey aren't well bolted or well built, they'll fail well before meeting criteria for EF 5 rating. If a well built, concrete structure is wiped and anchor bolts are displaced, fhat csn garner EF 5 rating. Lots of brick homes see total structure failure at EF3 speeds because of the lack of anchor bolts.

Really like this team. Perhaps should have some spotters out in the area to show visual because honestly some people just don't take things serious unless their is a visual. Still a great job this team did explaining how serious this storm was.
Weather can be so unpredictable in this area at times. This happened in December and I've seen a foot of snow on the ground this time of year Certain things have to come together to create conditions like this, it sure did this time.
Not in the Confluence Region (Cape Girardeau-Paducah-Harrisburg) media market; it's very rare nowadays for local TV stations in any part of the country to operate their own weather radar, although it used to be common, particularly in the 1980's, 1990's, and early 2000's.
Not in that area. However, I live in Oklahoma and the Big 3 network stations here do operate their own radars - and I am also aware that in the last year or so, a station in Huntsville, Alabama has also added three radars of their own.

KWTV news 9 in Oklahoma city has thair own radar.
