Ok, I bought a 2012 3.6r with 52k miles, 3 months ago. Your videos have allowed me to get back into doing all my own maintenance and repair work. Thank you.
that was a much longer process for me. Couldn't get the hose off. dropped both my teflon tape and the old valve into the motor and took a good 30 minutes to find and retrieve them. But....got the job done thanks to your great video ! ;)
I have been see alot of maintenance on the 2.5 but not so much for the 3.6, love this video, planning on doing the PCV in the spring when I do the spark plugs. Thanks for the vid.
This is great, I love your videos and I really like how this is in real time with nothing cut out. Also, applying the thread tape in the right direction is one of those simple little tasks that I ALWAYS fk up the first go, but I can confirm that it goes in the same direction for Subarus on the Australian side of the equator!
Remember when using Teflon tape on a tapered pipe fitting, leave the first 2 threads without any tape as it doesn't aid in sealing. Leaving the first 2 threads naked also keeps Teflon tape out of the engine !
My quick Google research suggests Loctite 271 is equivalent to Threebond 1324 and that's what I will be using. Home Depot has them for $6.47 per 0.2 fl oz tube. Thanks for uploading those great videos here! Very helpful!
Once again brother I love your videos even if they are not for my vehicle!!! Quick question unrelated to the video how do you feel about seafoam? I try to be very cautious about putting things in my outback because I want it to last.
By the way our PCV valve happens to be the same ones that are on the 3.5 Toyota V6 2GFRE. Good man on torquing it , I however have a special torque wrench which is called my hand and my special value is good and tight...
MrSubaru1387 that’s why only take it was before actually I’m sort of worried if I use tape or any type of thread sealant that would actually over torque.
Is the process the same for the 2017-18 3.6r Outback and Legacy? Would like to help out my folks and replace it for them. They have 40-50k miles and are reporting a bit of oil consumption and my hunch is the old PCV valve being clogged.
"Start by removing the engine cover" First time I removed the engine cover from our 06XT was the last time I removed the engine cover from our 06XT. Could not get the cover front holes to line up with holes in the cover front bracket. At least half a hole out of alignment, and I nothing I did could change that (:
Here is the key, align front holes first and press them in. Next gently align rear holes and then move to the rear sides, bend as far down as possible and look under the right and left rear, from the right and left to confirm the cover is in fact lined up on each rear hole. Gently lift the right and left rear cover up and let it down if needed to confirm it is lined up properly. Once you are sure gently press over the right, then the left side to seat the cover and rubber knobs into each hole. Do not seat the rears first as if you do that the fronts are nigh impossible to confirm correct alignment. This works for me, on my 2011 legacy 3.6R.
Was hoping for some guidance… my wrx 2018 is dropping revs drastically (from 800 to 550) when pressing the brake to the end while in gear. Would it be possible for it to be the pcv or brake booster? Thanks!
My 2007 OWB 2.5L is seized in there.. I tried with 1/2" breaker bar, but im afraid i will damage the housing.. So what i done was spray Carb cleaner directly into the PCV.. I then you s a small screw driver keep jaming up and down to remove the sludge inside the PCV.
Thanks for the video, its hard to find videos dealing with the 3.6R. I watched your video on replacing plugs and wish I had seen it sooner. My 2010 3.6 has 2024000+ miles and started leaking oil from a rocker cover up front on the battery side. I noticed from the spark plug video some of the bolts are readily doable. That said are rocker cover gaskets something that can be done without pulling the engine? I appreciate any replies from yourself and your viewers who may have done a rocker/valve cover gasket replacement. Thanks again.
Got the one from O'Reilly's and it's got an extra thread and won't spin into place. I also looked it up, nappa, AutoZone, advanced all selling it too, but it doesn't fit my 17 3.6r. only the Subaru one is the right size.

Was replacing PCV valve on 2008 outback. Original hose was firm, like plastic, and split when removed from the PCV valve. It also had no hose clamps on either end. Will any vacuum hose work or do you feel this is manufacturer specific? Also is the torque the same? The PCV valve has the same part number as yours.
Thank you for your reply. It is actually the 2.5/4cyl. Also, was hoping to replace the CVT fluid in my 2011 outback with 112k miles. There is not dipstick to check. You are clearly a gifted clinician. Thank you so much!
Ah. Subaru says not to touch the CVT for 120k miles. At that point, it's a pain to replace. You drain it, measure it, fill it though the side of the transmission with a transfer pump, have to check it up to temp, on level ground. It's not a fun service.
Hey Mr subaru I am having a problem with my 05 wrx and I am pretty stumped on what to do next the vehicle apon starting shoots up the rpms all the way to 6k rpm by its self I have replaced the TPS fixed vaccum leaks could it be the [ Idle air control valve] also I have made sure the throttle cables have proper slack and are not getting stuck
I have removed the intercooler to make sure the throttle plate is phisically closed also had a friend start the vehicle while I controled the throttle cables with my hands ensuring that the throttle is closed but the idle still shoots up to 6k I turn the engine off before it could ever reach 6k
Sounds like there's a large air leak between the throttle body and cylinder heads. So, throttle body gasket, intake to TGV gasket or TGV to cylinder head gasket.
