@Edward Stow that's the crazy thing.... on the surface it's a straight up punk song. But you hear it like this and there's so many little changes and chords. Crazy.
Christ, that was an amazing performance. He's such a neat guitar player, he plays fast and hectic without a wasted strum, very efficient and never sloppy. That is so hard to pull off. And to top it off his voice is as fresh and on point as if he were still a teenager singing this song. Man, he is better than ever! Go Gaz!
Lucas O'heyze Do you realize how hard it is to fine a decent rhythm guitarist? I've played with so many and I can think of only like two who were worth a shit.
+Lucas O'heyze Maybe you overestimate yourself. But then if you're a professional musician I can understand you saying that. Among pros killer lead virtuosos are ten a penny as well. Many of them own music shops.
Just visited your channel expecting lots of videos of you playing as well as this and guess what? There's none son! How dare you scorn on Gaz, he wrote the fucking song, arranged it, and has vocals of a banshee, until you can show WHAT you can actually do you are one of those shit rhythm guitarists who talk about how good they are. They are a 100 to the penny!
Like the traditioin of all great British music, it's not only the great chord progression and melody that make this song; the lyrics tell a brilliant story.
I remember being 15 in the back of the van in about '97 and this song was going through my head. Unfortunately for me my brother was also in the back of the van so didn't "get me out and sort me out alright". We're all grown up now and no more being carted away but this has always been an anthem for us. This and Richard III are timeless for me
lol nah, when I was even being simply inspected under the nose of a copper or carted away by them I wasn’t thinking about songs I was thinking fuck, my mum ain’t gonna be happy.
That's exactly what made me fall in love with Supergrass. They explored the non-diatonic in such a catchy way. So there was this intriguing sense of unpredictability with unusual changes, but it still felt like a perfectly crafted pop song.
I remember my first (and favourite) Glastonbury in 1995. Supergrass playing Friday afternoon armed with an ample supply of cold cider on a warm sunny day. It doesn't get any better than that (and it never did)!
Such a beautifully written song. If this had had words about boy meets girl it would’ve been even bigger but I love it as it is. Always have and always will.
I could get shot point blank for this, but I think "grass" were the best of the Britpop bands, although Gaz, Mick and Danny all hate the term Britop. Also Gaz's album Matador is killer.
Gaz should get more credit for his guitar playing. Clean as hell.
+Peter Pahor Absolutely!
He's now a middle-aged man with pudgy dad fingers and he can still play an acoustic like a madman :D

when youre 14 15 and write this.... the rest of us have no hope
Of course, it's a whole life playing the guitar

What the actual fuck are you talking about? He's doing exactly what every rhythm guitarist does all the time!
Lucas O'heyze Do you realize how hard it is to fine a decent rhythm guitarist? I've played with so many and I can think of only like two who were worth a shit.
DamnabLEyes! Nope- as a rhythm guitarist myself I know we're ten-a-penny.

Killer voice. Hasn't changed a bit either. Nails every note.
Yeah live plays of Supergrass are so like the original songs I mean they were great
Except at 0:40 = )
He lowers it in a couple of other live performances as well, because why not.
Yep, he avoids that note like the plague! Ha ha!
@@TheHerronBrothers Awesome effect if he saves it for once a song i reckon :)

Squeeze - Up The Junction is practically a life story.

Those lovely yet frenetic chord progressions... simply, WOW!!!!
