I think I completely understand what she means. It was really close to what I was thinking myself while watching this.
About a year and a half ago, I got into playing Tetris seriously (for related reasons). When you keep playing Tetris, you pick up a series of skills. You think further in advance, you start to recognize patterns and piece setups, and the mapping of your hand movements to the piece movements sharpens and becomes faster and faster. You can absolutely see your own mental and visceral growth as you play. I see Tetris as a skill that I want to develop and something that I use to relax. It's almost like a tool now. I might get tired of playing Tetris in one given sitting, but I don't tire of it as a whole, much like how I don't get tired of, say, typing, or riding a bike.
I'm not that great at Tetris even now, but I do have a sub-minute 40-line time.

Interesting, I think I understand. I believe I experienced something similar with rhythm games.
The best example would probably be Guitar Hero (or moreso Clone Hero), I similarly learnt reading certain patterns and learning how to hit them, wether to use one or both hands on the guitar neck for the oncoming pattern, and so on.
And there's the obvious part of hearing a song and playing air guitar, but like a GH guitar, with 5 fret buttons ^^;

I really like her pencil metaphor actually. For Suisei, Tetris is just a part of her life. It's not something she particularly notices or exerts any effort for. Just like we wouldn't get tired of using a pencil or opening doors or any other minor activities, Suisei won't get tired of Tetris.
