Thank you this has made me feel quite hopeful about my rather worsening jerks. I have had a very stressful year so maybe this is just what has triggered them.
I just found your channel tonight and I can relate so much to your videos. I started having muscle spasms while trying to fall asleep about two weeks ago... right before I started nursing school. Making me think it’s due to intense stress. Just wanted to say thank you for putting things into perspective by sharing your stories.
For me, they feel like a big rush of adrenaline or like a big chill moving through my body. Up until 2016, I had written them off as "just chills", but I knew there was probably something deeper to it. I did find it peculiar just how frequently I was experiencing them. I definitely feel you on anxiety being the root cause of this condition. In fact, the episode that landed me in the hospital in 2016 was caused by an anxiety-inducing situation that I had with my mom one night. I'd fallen asleep some time in the evening after school, and later that night, I was woken up by my mom coming in through the door from work. I remembered quickly that I still hadn't done the dishes in the kitchen, and my nervous system went completely into overdrive. I hurried to the kitchen before she went in there, but I was shaking so badly from all the adrenaline. She joined me in the kitchen shortly after whilst I was shakily scrubbing everything as best I could, but having her hover around me only exacerbated my anxiety and the jerks. And like you, my arm just started flying everywhere which caused me to accidentally throw/drop the dishes several times. I didn't know how to explain myself; I was just so embarrassed. Seeing this caused my mom to yell at me, I assume out of panic. This again further worsened my condition. Then, not knowing what to do I guess, she demanded that I go take a shower which was a really bad idea, because I was still having these huge jerks, and I ended up slipping and falling really hard in (and out of) our tub maybe a good 2 or 3 times. At this point, I was just as confused as she was, because they'd never gotten this bad before. I tried my best to stay calm, unlike my mom who barged into the bathroom screaming at me to get up and to go into my bedroom while she proceeded to call an ambulance for me. It was such a frustrating situation trying to get her to understand in the moment that screaming instructions at me was only making me more anxious, and thus intensifying the jerks. After that, I started seeing a neurologist who diagnosed me with myoclonic jerks, and I've been on keppra since then which has reduced my jerks almost completely. I hate having to take pills every day though. If that wasn't strange enough, I feel like my jerks might have been triggered when I began consistently listening to asmr videos on youtube around 2013 or 2014. I would listen to them at nighttime to fall asleep - with some videos, I would experience a strong tingling sensation on my scalp that would then move down my spine and through the rest of my body. I bring that up, because the jerks also kinda feel like that x10. I've also noticed that they tend to get worse if I feel too cold, and I'll sometimes even get them if I'm really enjoying a particular song through my headphones with my eyes closed.
I have JME and that chills thing sounds right on. My friends used to make fun of me for it. I laughed it off for years until it got so bad i couldnt be trusted to hold anything
Where yours a type of seizure? Hence the Keppra? I was also told I have jerks but not seizure related, but mine are way less than how you describe. But still daily
Your sweet voice and caring video was much appreciated! I dropped my phone twice while watching bc of the twitching! Thank you so much for sharing! God bless you!
Defo experienced this and still do along with hypnic jerks when falling asleep. I know deep down its my anxiety but a tiny part of my brain is like what is its such and such. Ive learned NEVER to google stuff like this, even my own GP said the same.
Same here I read it was called hypnic jerk. I noticed mine diminished a bit after removing caffeine and reducing stress. I still have it though but only as I start to get sleepy
@@dapg8245 hi. Do you still going through the same? I’ve been dealing with this for two months and like you, it’s right before falling sleep and waking up.
I got diagnosed with myoclonus around a year ago and I do like to research and see who else has experienced it. I am now on tablets. I experienced them for 8 years before actually being diagnosed so I feel you!
Hi Cherelle, thanks for this video. I've been experiencing these ever since I tried to switch from Citalopram to Sertraline last year. Ended up going back to Citalopram but the jerking continues to pop up every month or 2 for a few days, whenever my sleep is bad. Affects me most when laying down trying to get to sleep. It's pretty hellish!
I have the identical symptoms you had but it only happens when I lie down at the end of the day and attempt to fall asleep. Then the involuntary movements begin and continue seconds apart. I see there haven't been many comments for some time so I hope you still read these. I hope my myclonus I have is simply related to anxiety of which I'm sure I have quite a bit of. I've just subscribed and hopefully I'll get some ideas on how to proceed from here. It rarely happens during the day. Mine has gone on for years. You've given me a good starting point so thanks for that.
Soon I will be 58. I've struggled with these since I was 2 years old. Lots of anxiety from trauma. But I also had strep scarlet fever and rheumatic fever. That little gem causes damage to the basal ganglia. I think them stress...fight or flight causes the movement to be triggered. Being raised by a mom w a borderline personality disorder as well as a jealous resentful sister w the same disorder meant I've lived mired in super high stress. 56 years of this. So much forced movement and jerking. My every joint hurts daily. I hope someday theres a way to feel better . I worry how this will be as I get into these later years. It's so sad to know more people have this misery. Much love to all❤
Hi, it's comforting to see that i'm not the only one experiencing this. i'm glad you're doing better and people are finding ways to stop it! everyone is saying that it's anxiety, but i don't know if i'm experiencing anxiety or not. i'm constantly worried about my health so that would be causing a bit of stress, but i don't think i'm seriously anxious or that stressed. is it really possible that just a little anxiety can be causing this?
I too have FND. I have PTSD from a head injury. I too stressed to Drs that episodes / long tic attacks can come out of nowhere when not stressed. I feel like overstimulation could also be a big trigger for me though.
I have spinal Myonclonus, it effects my head, neck and shoulders, started presenting itself in 2020, the height of covid, my neurologist specialises in movement disorders, after CTs and an MRI it was suggested I'd had a brain trauma in the form of an infection that caused it. I'm lucky that I'm medicated with Keppra and completely keeps it in control.
Hi, I hope you don't mind if I ask you some questions about them, I've only just learned what this is and was so confused about them my entire life. You had them as a kid,do you still get them? Does the tingling feeling feel like it's going up your back to your head when you get the twitch and does stress trigger it?
Oh my god. You have a video for everything that causes me the worst anxiety. I experience these almost on a daily basis. They are especially bad/frequent if I’m tired and/or dehydrated. I was on adderall for 10 years and I know that exacerbated the condition. I have a referral for a neurologist but haven’t been able to afford the MRI yet. They don’t happen when I’m laying down, it’s almost always when I’m doing something that involves dexterity. Like typing, writing, texting, anything with my hands that requires the least bit of concentration.
For me it it is limbs but when I try to sleep it is a jolt in my stomach just as I'm dropping off. Or I drop off and then wake up with a jolt and can't breathe. Couldn't sleep for two days cuz all the jolts at night. Then finally got to sleep and after an hour or so I jolted up out of bed lightening fast and on my feet trembling, heart racing and thought I was having a heart attack. Was just a panic attack from the jolt waking me up. When it calmed down I went and laid in bed in fetal position and fell asleep for a couple of hours. I found some diazepam which has stopped almost all the jolts so far ,. hopefully it will through the night too so I can sleep without jolting. Mostly flashes and things making me jump like flies going past even though I wouldn't flinch usually but for some reason I'm jolting to them now. Hope you all get help you need. Love to all x
@@haydenwozere Its really affecting my sleep but its also injured my neck as again tonight my head jerked very hard side to side. I'm getting chiro treatment for it but its getting worse. My friend and I both have it and take the same blood pressure medicine could that be a cause ?
Mine happen the worst in the morning or at night when I'm most relaxed. They have been going on for about a month and a half and are getting progressively more annoying and frequent. BUT the stress in my life has also gotten worse and these odd movements are not helping my stress levels! I agree - doesn't feel like a twitch but a bigger version of a twitch. I have tried to sit with it for that month and a half but will visit my Dr tomorrow to make sure she isn't concerned.
wow! I'm super appreciative of this video because I've been looking for case studies. In general I'm unconcerned about my experience - I have the regular jerks here and there. Recently I experienced something I used to have more often when I was a kid, with a bunch of movement happening with my head shaking, my neck twitching and my arms or shoulders jerking in the other direction. It's really interesting how anxiety can cause a lot of things, and unfortunately there's a lot of stigma. I really think anxiety should be taken a lot more seriously.
I’ve been experiencing jerks and twitching since December of 2018. Finally going to see a neurologist this month! I hope all goes well. Thank you for this video it was very insightful!
@@kalsoomahmed4381 it went extremely well thank you! I was diagnosed with something called BFS which stands for Benign Fasciculation Syndrome! It’s nothing too serious or life threatening but there’s no cure and very little I can do to help with my symptoms.
I just recently been getting this to the right side of my upper shoulder and it happens all throughout the day now been goin on now for three weeks and been stressed 😥 out due to bills and bout to loose our car this month and not able to receive anything of government assistance of anything we thought we could for me and my daughter and our hamster 🐹 and been lately depressed and crying 😢 a lot and not letting my daughter see me in this way prayn for a better day soon and we ask for y’all prayers 🙏🏽🙏🏽😢😢
I have the involuntary jerks sometimes and feel like it's all from high stress. My eyelid has also twitched for long periods of time. The involuntary jerk feels almost like I'm being shocked.
@@natalieweiss5193 omg I have the same too. Body jerks and eyelid twitch. And it’s so difficult trying to sleep with eyelid twitching for me. So much pressure in sinuses too. No answer so far. Just told to relax and not worry but it’s getting worse.
Are you better now, i have reasons why im not sure if I had this shit my whole life,I just dont remember and I'm anxious as fuck, but when trying to remember I would say that I have it for last 2 years or so
Ive been struggling with these for almost a year now.. (along with many other symptoms i.e. high blood pressure, tachycardia, sweating, instabity.) been to Doctor and emergency services multiple times and they couldnt find out why.. finally doing my own research i found mine are caused by seratonin syndrome/toxicity! Just founf this out 2 days ago anf now im slowly coming off those meds.. be careful with psych meds!
This was really comforting. I’ve been dealing with bfs for 4 months and unreal health anxiety. I’ve also had these myoclonic jerks especially in my neck and when I’m falling asleep. They’re so scary and I went through a huge bout of fear about CJD even though it’s incredibly rare. I don’t know. When I’m in the extreme anxiety state I feel like no reason can calm me down 😕. Videos like yours are so helpful and reassuring. I know that after 4 months of still being perfectly strong and mobile it’s unlikely to be a fatal issue but I still keep fearing leaving my family alone. Gotta keep working on my anxiety. Thanks so much for your channel ❤️
I’m going through the same thing ! I constantly worry about cjd or another prion disease to where I schedule to see a neurologist for a mri just for relief. I try to convince myself I’m fine after being in the er several times. I know if it was that bad then i would have been admitted
I've had myclonic seizure since I was 14,sadly I'm 36 and I still have them when I'm stressed, alcohol makes them worse, sleep deprivation is my main trigger, socializing makes them shockingly bad.
Sleep deprivation is what triggers mine the most! If I get 8+ hours of sleep and drink a lot of water, I hardly get them during the day. But if I’m the least bit sleep-deprived and/or dehydrated then they are very bad and frequent.
I have been experiencing what I believe is myoclonic jerks for a few months. I’m still waiting for my appointment with a neurologist August 9th. I’m so relieved with your outcome, and hoping I’m in the same boat as you!
Hello what did doctor say? I'm having weird jerk movements but i can't find anything on the internet similiar to mine problem so idk do i have myoclonic jerks or it's something else.it happens only to my neck and only in two way.only when my neck is too tight from anxiety and when im starting my movement voluntary but it becomes involuntary jerk. So i initiate the movement it's not from nowhere. So if you could tell me is this what uou have and share your expirience. Enything can help me cause i have constant anxiety no emotions etc.
@@LP-pi7uz Hi! I ended up seeing a neurologist who then did an eeg, and MRI both came back with great results, then I was referred to a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with severe anxiety. I’ve been taking a low dose of Zoloft (50mg) and it’s gotten so much better.
@@Bgrant89ful awesome and how you myoclonic jerks look like, I honestly wanna know because there are many versions and nobody has same as me on whole internet or atlrast I haven't found that person.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for this!!! Yes! I've had them since starting my new job. The first month it was just at night... now it's becoming during the daytime, too. Your story is reassuring for me and confirms my suspicions.
I've been researching this the last couple of days because it started happening to me after a huge career change / leap of faith. For me it kinda resides in my abdominal muscles jolting. Was kinda alarming but have suspected its stress / anxiety related. Your video made me feel a little better so thanks :)
Hi I think we have similar symptoms. Does it feel like your diaphragm stops and your body forgets how to breathe? That’s what it feels like to me. I hope you are doing better
@@_danila5185 That's pretty much how it felt, when I first wrote my comment I had it for about a week and it was really starting to effect my sleeping quality. Interestingly enough about a week after my comment it started to happen less and then it completely disappeared. I've been sleeping soundly now for 2 months. I think one of the worst parts about having this was, you have a tendency to think "is this always going to happen to me? is this my life now?" and the answer is no. You will get back to how you were, in my case I just needed to relax and let go of stress that I wasn't even aware I was carrying.
Hello, I just found your channel and I’m so thankful you and your channel exist!! I relate so much to your videos. Thanks for sharing your struggles, it truly does help others ❤️
Hate having this problem. I’ve been dealing with it since 2008. The intensity is so severe at time of the flail that it actually hurts after awhile. It’s always on the left side, meaning I elbow or knee my partner constantly… The worst is when they last me all night, no matter what I do it just doesn’t let up; which causes insomnia. To everyone who deals with this, hang in there
Thank you so much for sharing this , its so hard to find information on this , i suffer from this too and when you mentioned anxiety it made sense cause i have severe anxiety , you sharing is so helpful , i greatly appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️ thank you
I’m so glad you were able to get it all sorted and are in a much better place now. I had the opposite experience. I was originally told mine were psychological, but it wasn’t. In fact the neurologist said there was some odd things on the EEG but he couldn’t get a clear reading for some reason or another. I’m so glad yours could be resolved. I understand how frustrated and anxious you must have felt and am sorry you went through that. Mine go sideways usually in the morning. And night. It’s ANNOYING. Especially when I am trying to to do something.. the most annoying part is when I’m told to “watch what I’m doing”. And I’m like “I’m not doing it on purpose.” But Mine aren’t psychological but I know I have anxiety along with them. At least when I’m around my mom. At home when it happens I’m just kinda likes “ugh!” I have “grand mal” (spelling) seizures as well but not so much now I’m on medication. Partial seizures suck as well. I’ve fallen into things, I have this sudden disorientatio, don’t know where t am and don’t see as well. I tend to keep going in whatever direction I started and it’s only a few seconds but it has caused me some harm. The other day for example, I stepped out from my sisters house and felt it and next thing I know I’ve tripping on a dolly and got bruised on my leg pretty visfblly. Lol y laugh at it since the circumstance can’t be helped. So there’s not much use in getting upset over it. I’ve more or less made peace with my epilepsy. I treat it like my vision and hearing issues. Autism, and mobility issues. It’s my life and I’m gonna get all I can from it. Huge hugs from Texas😊
Is this a form of epilepsy? My son has epilepsy, although not myoclonic, he has generalised epilepsy. A lot of pressure on the body (hormones/stress/illness) and lack of sleep can trigger a seizure for him. Anxiety causes so many issues, so glad you're feeling better now. I do have quite large jerks sometimes especially when falling asleep, my whole body goes. I think these are just general twitches for me though.
This sounds exactly like what I have, when I went to the doctor he told me it’s a small form of epilepsy but they still don’t know exactly what it is I’m starting to find more stuff being exactly what I’m going through
How does your happens mines is when I’m overthink about doing something eg parallel parking it happens but not when I’m normally driving it’s so weird, I found i have low iron but I don’t think that that’s causing it
@@blackarant1682 mine usually when I close my eyes mostly whenever I try to go to sleep but back in school let’s say the teacher says close your eyes for whatever I think I hyper focus when I close my eyes or something cause before I was on meds I just focused on like making a dream or something and if I didn’t think about it I could like close my eyes for a longer time or fall asleep within that time
Yes I realised yesterday that my symptoms are not normal.. i get them only when I fall asleep.. when I fall asleep i feel like im falling from a building and then I jump up from it and my arms and legs contract.. then again I fall asleep and again same thing feel im falling from a building with spasms and I have a hard time sleeping. So yesterday I decided to research this and found out about this.. so yeah here I am researching extra info about this.
My myclonic jerks started just over a year ago when I started anti depressants. I stopped taking anti depressents a year ago but the jerks have never gone. Its so annoying. I have learnt that if i stick to sleeping at a set time the jerks dont happen much, but if i nap during the day or something then they are really bad.
I'm gonna cry, I've had these for a few years and it's been a very very long road. I'm certain the cause is my bad neck. I'll bring this up to my doctors. ❤
It’s weird, I’ve been dealing with this since I was 12. Everytime I would go to sleep my brain would shock me outta my sleep or if I’m too lazy too get up, it would knock me in a vegetable state…until I snap out of it smh glad to know I’m not the only one
Hi My Name Is Catherine, I Care For My Sister Who Is 53 Years Old And Suffers similar symptoms and conditions as expressed in this video... May I Ask What Treatment Was Offered to bring about Your Healing And Freedom of myclonic jerks And Seizures, please? Kind Regards Catherine KZN SOUTH AFRICA
I have been diagnosed by my neurologist for myoclonus. Something I have been struggling with for at least 7 years now. I find it interesting that you refer to it as a "major twitch" because when I first started to experience myoclonus my description was a "mini seizure" I am on medication (depakote) but since I hate the taste and texture I don't always take it when I need to and don't realize until it's too late how bad of a decision that is. My nerves are pretty much shot and it has evolved once or twice to a full grand mal seizure. This is a fairly crippling condition to have as it makes certain things that I love very difficult to do. (Drinking, gaming etc.)
Dear Cherelle, thank you so much for sharing your experience! I would like to ask whether did you experience also a jerk that involved the whole body, like jumping up? And how often did you have the myoclonic jerks? Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for the quick reply! It is a bit of relief to know that it can happen with anxiety and it does not automatically mean some horrible disease. Your videos help a lot, really appreciated!
I jerk so bad yes I stand up- then it turns into a panic attack. It’s embarrassing when people are around & increases my anxiety. I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out what this was.
Is it possible that these myoclonic jerks can be caused due to stress even when you are not sleeping ? It happens for just two seconds @@cherellethinks

Yes I had covid on January this year and now all this months i been suffering uncontrollable scary Myoclonus, add me to Facebook so we can help each other some vitamins have help me a lot and did some blood testing with this doctor and a lot of thing help me I still have it here and there
I have had myoclonic jerks for all my life. I am 58 I have been telling Doctors that it feels like I am being electrocuted then my body jerks, but before all that I feel like someone is hugging me really tight in my chest. For years they acted like I was crazy, finally I videoed taped it on my IPhone and showed it to my primary care physician, that’s when I was sent to a nuero, he looked at the video and said you have myoclonic jerks. I was put on anti seizure medication and Klonopin. I still get them but they are not as frequent, nor do tremors in my hands or head anymore.
@rahwa r dont be sorry please, I went through the same and my doctors wouldn‘t help me as well.. Your pain sounds the same like mine. Mine started in my ankles and shot up to my knees. Have you tried Magnesium? I started to feel way better after a week of taking it. i would recommend Magnesium glycinate or Magnesium citrate. Pretty sure it will help you, too! :)
@rahwa r sorry forgot to mention, I don’t know if it was like a cramp but I couldnt move my legs for a few seconds and then it got better.. So it is possible that it was a cramp. I had it for a month or so but now it’s completely gone.
@rahwa r it was the same with me, they came out of nowhere and scared the hell out of me 😓 Thank you! I hope it helps you, too. Keep me updated, I hope you get better soon!🤗
@rahwa r no I didn’t. I live in Germany and the doctors are weird here or at least my doctor is. Lol. But I don’t think that you have to test it because if you google it there isn’t that much of side effects :) just don’t overdose it of course.
I had panic attack and was and the longest I had was for about one month and 11 days. I have also had around 5 concussions. I’m going to ask my Doctor about these because I suffer from these I believe. And since it’s scary and hard to diagnose, I get depressed to the point of not wanting to do anything, which causes the anxiety and the jerks getting worse.
I have sleep myoclonus (I think) and I've been paranoid all week that I have a serious neurological problem... tumor/huntingtons etc... I've had no sleep except for when I take ativan and I have to ration it now because I only got 7 left and I need 2 ativans to sleep. I've been having so many panic attacks and I can't get into the Doctor until the 11th...I've been to the ER 3 times with panic attack and they dismissed me and said they don't have the equipment to test for myoclonus and just gave me a bit of ativan. But this all stems from over Christmas break where I had my first panic attack in a long time and it was one of my worst ever... it was over another health concern about my swollen foot (I thought it was a pulmonary embolism) because I had just flown. I was hungover also so that didn't help the panic attack. I think with all the stress and anxiety something in me has short circuited or something and now I can't sleep. I get jolted out of sleep everytime I drift off, and I'm trying to fall asleep to body meditation and calm. But now I'm scared to sleep because it's an incredibly unpleasant thing... my blood pressure, heart rate spike, I get a hot flash and the twitches all over my body and head. Anyways your video has helped ease my mind about it; that you got through and you attribute it to stress overload and being in a dark place because that's where I was on Christmas Day and that whole week for that matter... it's reassuring that this probably isn't something neurological but rather psychological and maybe I can manage this so thanks for sharing in your video.
Hi just wanted to know.... I too suffer from something similar and the doctors have diagnosed it to be a psychiatric symptom most probably a result of PTSD ... if you can ... could you let me know about the meds you were prescribed would be really helpful for me in consulting this with my doctor.... 💯

Hi Cherelle, thank you for sharing this video. I have been experience head jerks for almost 2 years now and I have not been able to get rid of them yet, I am only able to suppress them. The worst is that when I lie down to relax my head just jerks constantly to the left. Is this similar to what you experienced? Great to know that you overcame it, what did you do to fix it?
It seems like I get them when I’m cold but there are times where idk what really causes it. I get ones that n my head when I’m going to sleep some time. It’s like my mind is about to go into the next level lol f sleep but comes back. I have thoughts all around my mind but I can’t put a finger on a single one.

Specially when am at work and I got to hide that from others so they don’t look at me different . Ugh I swear I always act like I have a cramp or something to cover the jerk 🤧 😿
Yes. We think it might been the result of the horseback riding accident when I was very young. I took a rough tumble from my green broke filly and ended up with a bad TBI where the interstitial space on the right side of my brain, instead of being peanut shaped like the left side of my brain, is round. Bc I hadn’t done a CT until after the accident, we don’t know if correlation implies causation; however since the myoclonic jerks began immediately thereafter it’s probably a good guess. It certainly didn’t stop me being an avid rider! I was a sensitive kid, a musician, only child (sort of - my elder brother had died in an accident when I was a baby and my younger was 11 years younger) and also took myself say too srsly in the worst way possible 😂. So I was super self conscious about my jerks while going through puberty, as one can imagine. I started gaining weight and was generally a hot mess. So the best news of all is that shortly thereafter that summer we took in a delightful young woman, Sandy, who with the best of intentions and great compassion, started imitating and making gentle fun of my jerks so that I didn’t get angry and defensive when other kids made fun of me, and I wasn’t so self-conscious anymore - in other words so I got over myself. Nobody had ever done that for me before (though PLENTY of people had been cruel AF to me in the past, at school especially) but bc nobody had helped me to grow a thick skin at home, and I desperately needed that skill in order to navigate the real world, especially with such a visible (and humorous) disability. I mean, what are you gonna do but laugh at someone who waves their hands in the air, and throws and drops stuff at other people? Especially if they take themselves so everloving srsly? @@resullqsmvto clarify, yes, very visibly, and often, requiring thrice daily antiseizure medication for the rest of my life And while I’m sure some folks have myoclonic jerks as a result of anxiety, there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind (or that of my doctors for that matter) that mine are NOT psychogenic, although stress will definitely exacerbate my symptoms - as will loud noises, inadequate sleep, poor nutrition, chronic pain or sudden pain.
i’ve been dealing with these for a while ever since an intense period of chronic anxiety, along with muscle twitches. i’m doing slightly better but is it normal to experience this even when you don’t feel anxious? i’m just so sick of them
They’re so awful aren’t they! The thing is with anxiety symptoms is that the body becomes so conditioned to feel anxious all the time that the body produces the symptoms even when you don’t feel anxious at all. It used to happen to me a lot!
@@cherellethinks yes it’s so scary! especially since my trigger for my period of anxiety was being terrified of dying and convincing myself i had some awful disease, so the weird symptoms from anxiety are genuinely terrifying! especially the muscle twitches i’ve had them for months now
I have been experiencing these for the last 8.5 months. Ive had so many doctor visits but all tests are normal (except first EEG with slight abnormality but 2nd one clear) and its been an absolute nightmare. It started as hypnic jerks every night giving me sleepless nights, and then into the day as well. I'll be sitting watching something and my leg (trunk?) etc. will feel electric and will jerk like a hiccup. They also seem to be triggered by a startle or something moving fast on screen which is a bummer because I like watching skateboarding videos :/ I've had random nights of remission but they happen when I dont feel anxious as well. Oh and dont get me started on the constant muscle twitches-especially in the triceps. I hope that by working on my anxiety over the symptoms they will dissipate. Not one doctor has told me it is anxiety, they just mention epilepsy and other scary shit. Thanks for the video Cherelle.
@@salehpatel2203 Hello Saleh. I am still experiencing the jerks though to a lesser degree this week. I use melatonin, cbd oil, and magnesium glycinate before bed to help sleep. I wonder if a potent CBD extract would help as well. I know Dr. Morse sells some great products for cleansing the body, as well as a good brain and nerve formula. Many of these disorders are caused by inflammation and acidosis. We need to eat better diets to keep stress and inflammation down and keep the gut healthy.
I believe i may have myoclonus, sometimes both my arms twitch if im gaming or excited, and when i talk while excited i will stutter and my jaw will twitch. Does this disorder mean i will die? Worried about this, im 27 years old.
Go to a neurologist but no you most likely will not die😋 everyone can get myoclonic jerks (even the hiccups is a myoclonus). I have constant cortical (polyminum)myoclonus. Which they also call Epilepsia partialis continua as it neverrrrr stops. Basically every muscle twitches in my entire body. It’s definitely frustrating and tiring, and sometimes it can be one symptom of a disease, but as you already say, it’s sometimes and it does not sound out of the ordinary. You could always check it out but don’t worry!

@Cherelle Thinks I’ve had these for about 3 months. I wrote to you on another video. I’m curious if you have had or heard of “burning skin sensation” caused by anxiety?!! After seeing GP and neuro for all of my symptoms, they believe it to be anxiety and I just find it so hard to believe. Any insight would be so much appreciated!!! ❤️
@ciaran perry thank you for your response. I’ve read all I can find on the subject. It’s been ongoing pretty much constant for 3 months.. even when I’m not feeling anxious. There’s not much to be said on how it resolves. You would think that since I’ve been medically cleared, the symptom would subside?....
@ciaran perry I really appreciate your insight. I’ve never experienced anxiety to this degree. I can’t wrap my mind around how anxiety and my subconscious can cause physical symptoms. I’m so grateful to find others who are or have experienced this. It makes me feel like there is some light at the end of the tunnel. What do you suggest to reprogram the mind?.. or any tools to help ease the anxiety?

@@lisacaldas401 yes i do feel the symptoms constantly even when i’m not anxious, it’s been terrifying, i’ve had blood tests but got the all clear. i’ve had my symptoms for 4 months now ever since a really bad time in my life where my anxiety was at it’s worst. i get muscle twitches everywhere in my body, pricking burning and tingling in my skin, and tension headaches and loads of other weird symptoms. i’m young so it’s unlikely it is something bad but i think what made it worse was my anxious episode was triggered by the fear of death and illness. but it’s even more scary when you have the symptoms when you don’t feel anxious! it’s just important to remember anxiety and stress is going to cause changes in your body as you have been in a hyper stimulated state for so long that it will manifest in to physical symptoms! it’s comforting other people have these symptoms too tho. i hope you’re staying well
I recently had my first seizure and soon afterwards I had a stroke. I just recently got discharged from the hospital and I am on medications, one which I am using as seizure medication. Yesterday, I started having myoclonic jerks and they kept me awake all night. I'm still having them in clusters even as I type this. When this happens this way, is there something a person can do to help relieve their symptoms?
Where can I dm you I have a son who has myclonic epilepsy we tried 3 different medications and is still getting jerks after we started medicine he started getting seizures I don't know what can we do anymore medicine is not working he also had therapy.
Cherelle what did you do for your myoclonic jerks my daughter started having them right arm started forcfully moving up in a jerk fashion but dr calls them myoclonic seizures since she is epileptic anyway but this is new . Thanks for sharing
Your daughter should see a seizure specialist. Sounds like she has JME, like i do, and with JME we need extra knowledge because typical anticonvulsants may actually make us worse. I ended up stablized on a low dose of clobazam when other meds failed. Diet is very important as well as sleep. Good luck!
I have the same symptoms but when it happens to me i can’t scream or move my body for like 1 minutes do you have the same symptoms as me ?

I got an eeg to make sure they are not epilepsy- It’s annoying but I feel so much more relaxed now to know it’s just stress

I too have FND. I have PTSD from a head injury. I too stressed to Drs that episodes / long tic attacks can come out of nowhere when not stressed. I feel like overstimulation could also be a big trigger for me though.
Exactly like mine! Terrifying and so confusing. Eventually headed mine with grass fed bone broth and activated charcoal.

It might be potentially not all the times though
This sounds exactly like what I have, when I went to the doctor he told me it’s a small form of epilepsy but they still don’t know exactly what it is I’m starting to find more stuff being exactly what I’m going through
How does your happens mines is when I’m overthink about doing something eg parallel parking it happens but not when I’m normally driving it’s so weird, I found i have low iron but I don’t think that that’s causing it

How are you doing now hope good
This is hypnic jerk and it is due to stress
My myclonic jerks started just over a year ago when I started anti depressants. I stopped taking anti depressents a year ago but the jerks have never gone. Its so annoying. I have learnt that if i stick to sleeping at a set time the jerks dont happen much, but if i nap during the day or something then they are really bad.
You might be onto something. I have noticed the same.

I'm gonna cry, I've had these for a few years and it's been a very very long road. I'm certain the cause is my bad neck. I'll bring this up to my doctors. ❤

The shot cinematography on the video is incredible lol I don’t know if it’s intentional but it’s beautifully composed frame
I have these! Especially the "jaw jerks". My bottom jaw launches forward, it's so bizarre!
The worst!
It’s weird, I’ve been dealing with this since I was 12. Everytime I would go to sleep my brain would shock me outta my sleep or if I’m too lazy too get up, it would knock me in a vegetable state…until I snap out of it smh glad to know I’m not the only one

I've had them since I broke my neck and my entire leg will jump violently every 10 seconds for like an hour
So do you have epilepsy?!

Oh gosh yes! My whole body would jerk and it was just awful. It’s very common when highly anxious!
Thank you so much for the quick reply! It is a bit of relief to know that it can happen with anxiety and it does not automatically mean some horrible disease. Your videos help a lot, really appreciated!

I had them in my legs and mine were also painful. Magnesium glycinate helped me a lot!
@rahwa r yes! Like shooting pain.
So what helped you never said?

I woul recommend getting tested for heavy metals, especially if you eat a lot of seafood.

@@OvisAriesFarm Only while sleeping or during the day as well?
You best believe you better laugh with em amirite😂?
@@resullqsmvto clarify, yes, very visibly, and often, requiring thrice daily antiseizure medication for the rest of my life
And while I’m sure some folks have myoclonic jerks as a result of anxiety, there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind (or that of my doctors for that matter) that mine are NOT psychogenic, although stress will definitely exacerbate my symptoms - as will loud noises, inadequate sleep, poor nutrition, chronic pain or sudden pain.

The after effects! Ugh

Your daughter should see a seizure specialist. Sounds like she has JME, like i do, and with JME we need extra knowledge because typical anticonvulsants may actually make us worse. I ended up stablized on a low dose of clobazam when other meds failed. Diet is very important as well as sleep. Good luck!
