Wow, it took me a long time to post a new video, my original plan was to release a video around the 12th of January but things kept going wrong with my projects. Since the 13th of December I've been going back and forth between 3 projects, including this one waiting for replacement parts that failed during filming to arrive, resolving issues and so on. Now, because I made good progress on another project, I'm hoping to release a new video in 3 weeks or so, so let's see how that goes.
Imagine buying a TV 55 years ago and thinking it’s gonna last for about a year or two, but it ends up being used to play games using one of the most powerful consoles to date..
Or imagine being a poor Bulgarian like me and doesnt have enough money to buy good electronics and lives in an old apartment and is gifted a PS5 from his uncle 😑
If I remember right, some old TVs had two adjustments for clearing up radio signal and kinda sorta controlled the vertical center of the picture depending on how well the tune was. This little one probably doesn’t have that adjustment and if you give that converter another shot on something like an old zenith you may be able to center the picture and adjust things a little better.
Yes, probably, that little TV might have that internally, but I suspect it might be capacitors or something because the components are over 50 years old.
Great stuff! Remind me old days with an small sharp tv playing ps1 when my dad was at home and I couldn't play on the living room tv. I used to play black and white for a while.
This is the first video of yours I've seen and wish it wasn't, cause it's really good 👍. I'm surprised you're still under 1k subs after almost a year of this video. You deserve more.
TV: "Hiya... I am come from Sony. I born 56 year ago." PS5: "OMG... I also come from Sony! And I am just 1 year old!" TV: "Owh... you're my descendant..." PS5: "Great great great grandfather!!!"
Just picked up one of these TV's, had to replace every capacitor on the 2 boards inside, but it's an absolute joy to work on, you can completely remove the boards for service.
That's the PS3 Slim which it came out in November of 2009 It means 44 Years Younger, and That's also a PS4 Slim that's 51 Years Younger it came out in September 2016.
That is true, I was thinking about that while making the video, but I ended up going with the years the platforms as a whole were released. I should've probably have said something about that in the video. I hope you enjoyed it otherwise.
2009 I bought a LCD Liquid Crystal television it's known as LCD display liquid crystal display it's a 1080p television and it lasted for 14 years and it's still working so TVs are meant to work a long time. It was called a Sharp Aquos and it was a really good TV when it came out. Back when I bought it LCDs were really popular and it was way cheaper than when they first came out I paid over $600 for it which was a lot it was cheaper than when they first came out
Sharp Aquos line still alive today. The newest series are smart TV (I think it runs Android). My brother still has one in his room, it's 32" inch but maybe it's older / lower series than yours because it's only run in 720p
Have you tried lowering the volume by turning plastic screw on the modulator? Audio might be distorted because its level is too high... The same rule applies to the image, you can play with those screws to get the best experience.
Cool video. There's always something awesome about the black and white aesthetic. I don't know why, but for some reason I really love the way it looks, always have.
Can you let us know the name and model of that RF adapter? Did you find it on eBay or someplace else? I do wonder how much lag it added, especially from HDMI to RF.
At 2:47, what is that small adapter you plugged into your tv called? I recently got this exact tv and also want to hook up a ps5 to it but I’ve never done anything like this before.
That's a coaxial to mono 3.5mm jack adapter. You can even make one yourself just by using a mono 3.5mm jack. Heck, it's rf, you can probability get away with sticking the wire from your coax cable inside the jack of the TV.
Hei I've been facing problem. Recently I moved out to grandma house. She has 24inch old sharp tv. When I plug my ps5 it just goes blank, no picture. It display 1080p 60fps on screen but all black. Any ideas?
@TheEricExperiment, great video it helpt me out a lot. I just have one question, would the modulator work with an antenna so the signal can be received on the tv also via antenna? Thank you in advance, greetings fome the Netherlands
Hey! Yes, it should work fine, but depending on the distance you'll probably need a signal booster/amplifier as the signal coming from cables that are supposed to be connected directly is a lot weaker.
Did you end up getting a Panasonic GH4 to record CRTs? Is that what you're using here? I read your post on Reddit a long time ago, and was wondering if it worked well. I have a Lumix G7 that I just got, and it's okay, but as you know, you can't fine tune the shutter speed, so you get that annoying black bar that scrolls up every now and then.
I got a GH5s as a gift but the only video that uses it is the last one. This video was done with the 80d, the reason it doesn't flicker is that the TV runs at a constant 50hz as it's PAL and I'm able to set my camera to that setting. Monitors are another story as they have very odd refresh rates.
Have someone replace some aged components inside, after all these years for sure there are a lot of bad components, maybe that will improve the image quality and fix the audio.
@@TheEricExperiment Swapping out the old capacitors with new ones is a thing to do. Also be careful, touching the wrong things in CRTs can lead to serious shocks if not discharged first.
@@jeffkardosjr.3825 Yeah, I wonder if just replacing the capacitors would be enough. Given the age of the TV, replacing them should be easy because all components are probably through hole.
Thank you for the feedback, I have been struggling with my audio because my voice recording is low for some reason, so I'm leveling everything down to match it. Hopefully it has improved in the latest videos.
I played a playstation and a snes to a black and white tv bc it was the only extra tv we had at the time then my aunt gave me an old commodore 64 and i used the monitor to play games
Hi buddy! This is amazing!!!Can I ask you some questions? I wanna my old TV to play Nintendo Switch like yours. What should I buy? Older than CRT tv, like your TV. Thanks
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Does your TV have composite, like, the yellow rca connector? If it does, then you need an hdmi to composite adapter. If it only has rf (antenna), then you need an hdmi to rf adaptor like the one from the video. I hope his helps.
This is REALLY an awesome experiment! But the audio... oh man... the PS1 intro nostalgia just shattered in pieces... I've just wasted the others 10 minutes of the video trying to put the memory of the intro sound whole again in my mind. ^^ just kidding

That 55 years old tv had better FPS than my laptop.
Imagine buying a TV 55 years ago and thinking it’s gonna last for about a year or two, but it ends up being used to play games using one of the most powerful consoles to date..
Right? It's such a crazy thing!
Though back in those days people expected appliances to last. And if they got broken you had to get it fixed rather than just buying a new one.
Or imagine being a poor Bulgarian like me and doesnt have enough money to buy good electronics and lives in an old apartment and is gifted a PS5 from his uncle 😑

It's amazing he connected a 56 year-old portable TV to a PS5 that's like 56 years later the audio was crap and the screen looks like s*** but it works
I have this tv but no power cable :(
Imagine traveling back in the 1965 along with these console and showing to the mid 60s people that you can do all of this stuff on this tv?
I bet they'd be like "I thought electronics were gonna get smaller and smaller, that PS5 is huge!" hahaha
For a 56 year old TV I feel like the quality is pretty damm good for its time
This was the only ad I have ever seen on UA-cam that interested me enough for a click.
Good job!

Where can you buy that blue colored adapter you used? What’s it called? Also is there any noticeable input lag?
