The nurse that lives nextdoor / use to live nextdoor / sometimes on the weekend lives nextdoor just bought a new car that probably cost more than $60,000. It's a long story but she didn't want to pay $200 rent to live there with her stepmom. So now she mostly lives with her mom. Historically, in 20 years the homes will have doubled in price and her car will be on the way to the junkyard. The only investment better than housing is: Edible trees!
In the 1960's my parents almost bought a home in Guadalajara Mexico that came with a gardener and maid for $7,000. I'm sure that over the years the value greatly increased. But things change and now I'm not sure I would want to live there. How can you predict what neighborhoods and governments will look like in 20 years?
I heard several years ago that over a hundred people were killed in Guadalajara when three blocks exploded from the gas line. The government blamed it on terrorist, but... Either way that's not good. And then the beautiful lake is a puddle from mismanagement.
I'm seeing 300 lots for 9.5 million pesos per square meter in Tagaytay. My gf's brother is a construction manager and her two brothers in law are construction workers. In 2023, can I build a really nice modern home for 150 to 180 k usd? I'd be in for about 220k usd.

Expats are not able to buy land in the Philippines. They can buy a condo in some cases where the ownership of the condo is 60% nationals.
2:52 they had a sweet ride!
I love this video, all of us in the Metro have something like this place to go to during the summer. I suddenly realized I have not been to my mom's province since the 90's! more power to this channel, you have great potential po 🙂
I appreciate that Joey!
Your home is beautiful
Thanks JP!
Nice house, glad your grandparents survived the war.
Thank God. Just hearing the stories from my Grandpa sounds utterly gruesome.
@@TheSavvyExpat The Japanese in some ways were just as bad as the Germans in WW2. I am sure your grandpa witnessed and heard of horrific acts. How nice that he is still around, lucky you.
That’s what exactly what my parents did. They have a condo in BGC and have a bigger house in Pangasinan.
That's the life. You get the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching brother.
Very informative vlog.
Glad it helped
It’s the purchasing of the plot of land that is tricky and can be more costly. Plus, is it still true that foreigners can’t buy land there?
Ang Ganda ng view
I like the style of room you are streaming from, is it a condo or home, if so where?
Your family has a beautiful home. During WWII my father and his brothers fought against the Japanese. His sisters hid in the jungle till the end of the war. My mother shared stories of she witnessed the Japanese throwing babies up in the air while being stabbed by their Bayonets And the Japanese torturing the US and Filipino army during the march to Bataan.
My Grandfather told me the exact same things. Man, that sounds brutal.
I heard the same stories from my mom. Awful things were done. 😢
Thanks for your families service they done so much for the US and Philippines they paved the way for the new generation!
@@roninbushito: Thanks. It was a tough time to be in. Similar how the people in Ukraine are experiencing.
@@methemonkeyking yes tough times with all the racism from the whites too.
I’m from Hawaii so I can relate to the kababayans we have so many Filipinos here and I know some here.
Old generation was the sakadas and than many veterans from WWII.
The millennials now are spoiled nothing like the old generation Filipino
Nice house and info.
You bet Tony
Not too flashy. Has highlighter yellow and green paint lol. It’s nice tho.
Beautiful home! Interesting design. What kind of materials were used to handle the high winds there and are typhoons ever a problem?
Wow Evan! So, where do Meljean and Tom live? How long ago did they build their home and did they own the land already? Another great video!
Wow Kuya , that´s an amazing story about the history of your familie. I subbed long b4 and of course every vid you make is worth a like. For my knowlege you cannot buy as foreigner any land or property in Pinas , ingat po.
Yes you're correct, I'm referring to foreigners with Filipino spouses. Thanks for tuning in Tommes!
In World War 2 my grandfather was in a German concentration camp for 3 years. He was a machine gunner in the guard tower.
Use solar to minimize the electric bill.
I really love listening to you :-)
Lol thanks Ariel
You’re a very fine young man and your videos are interesting and well done.
I appreciate that Chris
Great video and by the way, you can’t outrun ghosts! Haha!
I'm already in love with the other UA-camr; especially since I can't own land in the Philippines. LOL. This is where my Grandpa cooks and it's McDonalds.
Sadly your example $6,000 home of Meljean Solon was destroyed by typhoon Odette. Very unfortunate but you get what you pay for.
That's true. Sad to hear that.
Beautiful house, it looks very comfortable. I am planning to build a house in Mindanao. USA housing costs in most areas make Philippines a very attractive alternative.
Big time, housing costs are ridiculously expensive in the U.S and coming to the Philippines only broadens your perspective on that. Why Mindanao? Family or missionary work?
@@TheSavvyExpat "All the above", getting married to a pastor's daughter, and adopted a niece of another pastor, we will do feeding and gospel missions in Surigao del Sur and Gingoog City, God willing. With my adopted daughter's 35 cousins, I find I have much more family in the Philippines LOL. Has your family found a church home in Philippines?
@@waterheaterservices 35?! Talk about a tribe! Wow, I'm blessed to hear that. I'll be keeping you in my prayers and I admire that you took up adoption. Thanks for being the hands and feet of the Lord out there in Mindanao.
We have found a church home in BGC called "Every Nation Church" or also called "Victory Fort." There's branches across the Philippines. Heard of it?
I like the Rock facade
Nice house. I’d probably want a house with enough land to have a garden and also grow a bit of fruit.
Like the balconies
Who was the colour consultant on that house, big bird from Sesame Street?
Yes believe it or not
Dude , everything you have posted is 5 - 6 mos old , very good content and you present it well , guess you are not doing this anymore, unfortunate because your good .
Wow really affordable
Hey Evan, I know this is off topic but I would also like to hear your thoughts on the new president, Bong Bong. Specifically, will he change any of the requirements for expats wanting to live in PI? Thanks again!
The only investment better than housing is:
Edible trees!
Beautiful house
Thank you 😊
What is the name of or the UA-cam channel of the young who build the house that he was telling about
My question is what year did u build that house and where is the location bec.its all depends...
I'm seeing 300 lots for 9.5 million pesos per square meter in Tagaytay. My gf's brother is a construction manager and her two brothers in law are construction workers. In 2023, can I build a really nice modern home for 150 to 180 k usd? I'd be in for about 220k usd.
👍👍👍 nice. What's the sqm lot size? 150?
If you’re a Filipino US Citizen but wants to retire in the Philippines- can you purchase property or land? Are you allowed to open a business? Or do you have to be a dual citizen?
I think you have to be married to a Philippines citizen in order to purchase property/land in the Philippines
Former Filipinos can own property, but with size restrictions.
For establishing a business, you need to be a Filipino citizen (dual) or have a resident visa.
