In this video, I install aftermarket trim on a 64 impala they do not fit very well kind of hard to mess with, but I will get it done one way or another
My entire 64 is all after market even all body panels I had a guy that been doing cars for 50 years did a excellent job ..The front eyebrow fender trim they are wider then the original that are more narrow so if anyone wanted to buy original they wont line up with the hood front trim..All America does is send over all the moldings all the equipment needed to make all moldings and panels instead of doing it in America to save on wages thats all ..Just a bunch of Chineses workers working our equipment making this stuff ..I have a buddy I skydive with he works in Taiwan and flies to China and works in these shops..My buddy said the body panels on these old cars back in those days sucked they had to hammer them all the time to make them fit
If possible you always want to use Original moldings on these cars because they will fit better like you said but aftermarket works because it looks new. Haha I can understand getting the stuff new and forgetting about it. Hard to come by original moldings in good shape. Car looks good chief
Troy! Nice work. Man, 64 repop anything just sucks. Those C moldings on the quarter panels. They suck. The fit like ass. They don’t contour the body. They almost always need to be trimmed where they meet the long quarter moldings using a Dremel to fit better. Shouldn’t have to do that when paying 500 dollars. Those quarter IMPALA letters. Ive seen a few different versions and none of them equal the OEM stuff. Sometimes they come with speed nuts, sometimes they come with push on ring washer type things. Just all garbage. They should have acorn speed nuts like factory. I think the only good thing about repop 64 side molding is that they are straight. If u get original moldings reworked. They are so long and straight that they will have ripples and waves. This is being super critical of course. I think the push on clips are meant only for holes that u cant access from the back. And the metal clips with speed nuts are meant for areas u can access from the back. Like doors and quarters. But you are right, u have to gut the interior to get to them. I have a big bag of random clips ive accumulated. Sometimes ill buy an extra set and try to go with all metal clips and speed nuts instead of using those plastic push in type, because as you know. They belong in the trash. If you got a new hood lip molding for the car….wait til you try that …
Oh yeah I have a new one for the hood too. I’m sure it’s going to be bent completely wrong. Oh well just have to make the best of what I have to work with. Sucks but it’ll get done. It sure makes me appreciate when I work on 59 s and it’s all original trim.
Looks awesome ! I repaired and polished all my side moldings and just finished installing them, i feel your frustration , the 63s moldings are much easier . I think You have much more fun painting,lol.. waiting for the next awesome video...
I took the trim off my quarter panels when I replaced the quarters 3 years ago. All the plastic pieces broke so I replaced them with the metal clips and speed nuts.
I used the metal clips where I could reach and the plastic snap on clips on those areas I couldn't. I would have prefer the original but I was missing 75% of my moldings. I did not have my interior in when I installed mine but it was defiantly much easier for me.
Yeah, I ended up having to take the rear seats out the side panels and I use as many studs with the nuts as I could and the couple I couldn’t reach and had to use the plastic ones but they still didn’t clip in good complete junk

Lol I was thinking I was gonna spell it wrong. That would’ve been funny.thank you
I ended up using all the small metal screw on for the lower door. The big plastic ones are useless for the top.
Yes they are lucky I mad more of the metal screws
Looking good!
Thank you

Thanks tim
Has anyone ever sent out their moldings and grill etc. to be polished? If so where did you send them?
Yes the Chevy shop in California
Seems frustrating dealing with aftermarket parts.
Yes it can be I get spoiled when I do the 59 Trim because they’re all original trim and they fit nice
Do you offer restoration services?
No sorry I do not
Is after market parts are junk
Yep they are
