Over a half century ago, one could listen to the Chuck Wagon Gang come over the airwaves from the Mull's Singing Convention of Knoxville, Tennessee. They would broadcast over WLAC in Nashville, WWL in New Orleans, WBAP in Dallas-Fort Worth, etc.

I used to watch ole gravel voiced Mull and Lady Mull on WBIR Ch. 10 Knoxville back in the 1970’s. They had top gospel music on there. Good ole days!

Their music just touches my soul. When I'm having a bad day I fire up any of their tunes, especially the old old hymns, and I feel better. They just touch my soul

Hearing this number from this version of the Chuck Wagon Gang just brings back all those great memories from hearing them do it on Radio Station PJD2 on St. Martin in the Caribbean in the 1960s. Oh, what great memories! If I were marooned on an island I would be just fine as long as I had my bible, some food and water, and some Chuck Wagon Gang music!!’

Really sounds like Herby, Wade. Ruby and Polly. Wish I could find the tapes they made.

This is the old group (the original Chuck Wagon Gang). They are the best but the early replacements (Roy for Jim at bass and Jimmy Wesson or Ronnie Paige at tenor in place of Dad) are just as good. Ron Crittenden was a fantastic bass singer as well as the various tenors. But notice that it doesn’t matter who the men are, it’s the ladies, Rose and Anna, who “drive” the Chuck Wagon Gang. It is they who give the music that distinct, traditional, classic, uniquely Chuck Wagon Gang sound. Some people don’t want to admit it but the so-called modern, late versions of the Chuck Wagon Gang are just not the same. They are all great singers in their own rights but they are just simply NOT the same as the original and early replacements. I do enjoy them but they do not sound the same, as some people feel obligated to say.

I was in a group in 1972 called
The Hamonairs.all siblings.. Nearly identical parts.2 women Betty&Marlene Betty sang Rose part Marlene Annas.Bill Hall the bass singer looked a lot like "Dad"...and Layman the Lead/baritone.They did not try to cope the CWG but sounded like clones. One of the girls got a bit ruffled when a friend said they sounded like CWG......(they did😀)

They harmonize so well but the gentleman singing the bass part does not have a bass voice.

They didn't need a deep bass because Rose had a loud piercing tone
. She had to step back at least 5ft. To balance the sound. I love his bass just right.

I agree that Jim was not a true bass, but he had great range and his tone was perfect.
