    Subwoofers are an absolute requirement for music and Home Theatre. Quality bass is only achievable with good subs and proper placement, along with the correct crossover/frequency settings as you've carefully mentioned.
    Quality bass has such an impact on music, that it's actually night and day. Before I got quality subs, music was always good..even with lesser subs. But only when quality dual subs were added with comparable power and correct setup, did I find Nothing to be lacking ... Fidelity is a correctly placed, sub implemented system with proper power in a treated room.
    Good video, great info..keep em coming !

      Yes, it's always kind of amazing how much of a difference a properly set up subwoofer can make to a system. Unfortunately many people don't really take the time to dial them in 100%. Thanks for watching, and let us know if there are topics you'd like to see us cover.

    Request if any one can help me with some advice : I have a Bose soundbar 700 . I have a Klipsch subwoofer SW350( self powered). I want to connect soundbar to the sub. I am trying to connect through wire. I am using 3.5mm RCA for soundbar our and RCA in for sub as provided. ..no luck. The sub seems getting sound as I can feel lightly on skin but can say that it's not working. Used the same RCA cable my phone's audio jack., I am getting a solid thump. Why I am not getting this from Bose soundbar. ? Need help here. I did use Bose app. The app is not helping to add the Sub.. Nothing is detected.

    Great information Andrew, but I'm surprised you forgot to mention the "subwoofer crawl" method.

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  4 роки тому

      Very true, and Alan Lofft did the Subwoofer Crawl video for Axiom back in 2008, ua-cam.com/video/AV3oLLMgS-M/v-deo.html , for those who don't know this method of placing subwoofers. Thanks for your comment, added it to the list in the video description, and for watching.

    Thanks for the advice. Which subwoofer size would you recomend for Klipsch the fives active speakers in a room size 23 x 13 feet ?

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not familiar with your speakers but would recommend asking Klipsch.

    My home theatre system is comprised of two subwoofers that are placed diagonally apart. I know for my other speakers there should not be anything in front of the the speakers i.e. coffee table, but what about a subwoofer that's placed in the rear of the room that may be blocked partially from a sofa?

      As long as the objects are not really close to the subwoofer drivers where they could cause boundary loading, there is no need to worry about it as the frequencies covered by subwoofers are omnidirectional and won’t suffer from reflections in the same way as mid and high frequencies. Great question, thanks!

      @@AxiomHomeTheaters Me again. How far away is "not really close"? A foot?

      A foot or two will be fine.

    4:15, I don't believe so, setting the subwoofer crossover to the highest frequency, is still a frequency that will react with the system just as any other sub crossover frequency. I've matched my subwoofer crossover, receiver crossover and PC soundcard crossover to 60 Hz and everything sounds as flat as can be and the low end is authoritative. If you set a powered subwoofer's crossover frequency above where it should be matched into the system, then its own amp won't be giving the low end enough power, it'll be dividing the power to an unneeded higher spectrum. Right?

      That is true, there will always be a bit of interaction, unless there is an LFE input on the sub with a much higher (1kHz) cut-off frequency. However, it’s far batter to have minimal interaction than to have both the receiver sub crossover filter and the one in the subwoofer set to the same value and overlapping. In that case the two sets of filters will be cascading on one another with unpredictable results. Thanks for your thoughts and for watching.

    I have physical knob on sub ranging from 30 to 200 hz... what should i set it to? On av receiver crossover is 80hz...and currently i have the subwoofer connected to left n right input... should I use lfe input instead... thanks

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  4 роки тому +2

      If you are having your AVR set the crossover frequency, either set the control on the sub to 200 Hz, or use the LFE input which typically bypasses the internal filter in the subwoofer. Thanks for watching.

    Audioholics started a rating system. You can look there to see if the sub you want will work in a small, med, large and very large room.

    No matter where I put the subwoofer, the bass sounds the same! If i think one location makes it sounds bassier, it must be in my head.

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  Рік тому +2

      Maybe, but bass can fool your ears easily. The only way to know for sure would be to take some measurements or use a sound level meter to see what’s changing as you move the subwoofer.

      I sort of feel sorry for Alan. He moved from Ontario to New York after leaving Sound and Vision (Canada) for Audio magazine. Both magazines eventually folded due to the shift from stereo to audio video, and I don't think he had a gig after that. He was one of the few audio reviews I could trust, because he was above all the true believer/magical thinking that was the audio scene back then.

    Add 2. If you can wing it take whatever you were going to spend on one nice sub and get two at half price.
