I just checked my email for past receipts. I paid only $219 USD for a box of Premier only two years ago. Utterly batshit insane the inflation in the hobby.

well for some reason both the usa and canadian govs let only one company be licensed for each sport league, thats wrong the main reason why card prices are so high only three companies are basically making the cards, and right now the hobby is in a bubble going to be bad when it busts for all the people that put money into cards as an investment
@@redred222 Well, that's a bummer. If so, I'm a bit surprised they'd support monopolies, particularly given the state of the hobby and where it's headed. Collecting has always been a gamble but, at least it was "affordable" fun. Sadly, no longer and, for me, much of the enjoyment of the chase is gone.
@@yvr2yyz something they say its not because the leagues own there stuff and that they have the right to only have one company printing cards with nhl logo on it, its bull to me look back in the day we had 40 or 50 companies that made sports cards, now where down to topps, upperdeck, and panini and with a few small unlicensed products

Lol Lately You Need To Rob A Bank To Buy Products From Upper Deck
These boxes are ridiculously priced now. Last year I was able to get boxes for $200 USD and when I went to my LCS today, they wanted $509 USD for this product. Even though the cards look amazing, this is an easy pass for me this year at the current price levels.
Can't believe how pricy this hobby has got since 2 years ago, premier was like 350 max not almost double and still such dicey odds to pull heat
If people keep buying they'll keep raising the prices. It sucks but I pretty much just buy singles or the occasional retail blaster now.

Upper deck still hasn't released four products, which have been in cue for months past their projected release date.
Thick card stock,packs look like jumbo.Would have been nice to get Eichel autograph.A patch of Raymond,Seider,Zegras,Shesterkin,even Cal Peterson,Spencer Knight would have been nice.

What would be the best cards that have the jerseys and patches in them? Is it only upper deck or do other companies do those types of cards? I want to get into collecting cards like that. It just seems like hockey has a very limited amount of patches and jersey cards unlike the other sports like football and baseball.
At this point you could spend a G on a beautiful couple of slabbed rookie cards and be happy with what you have and a decent investment. Or waste your money on opening boxes hoping to hit. I've got a case of Artifacts coming and THATS IT. I'm done. 100% sitting out collecting next season. Will return when prices come down. Its just really really stupid at this point. The covid bubble drove it all too high.

Canada and us store take out much more money on new boxes, this 20-21 premier cost only 400cad in sweden so your stores take out about 125cad more for a box then what a swedish store takes
I like Dellandrea a lot, think he might develop into a pretty good player. May need a change of scenery though from the Stars to do so though.
Again ... when I seen the price of these ... I was like ... at least have amazing quality control .. everything I seen so far ( watched 3 master cases opened by another utuber/company .. apparently UD also has issue's with larger card store companies doing open breaks of there products online & threaten to revoke buying privilage from card shops/companies .. scream monoply much? ) Anyways ... nothing came out with a flaw on it.
With that said ... you didnt make out too bad here ... The dual Mega patch cards are the RARE ones to get in the set. And the gregorev Rangers card you got 1 of the rarer "chest logo" patch cards. They are doing chest, shoulder & arm? patch logo cards in this set. Nicest ones I've seen so far was the above mentioned utuber got a kril kaprisoz auto chest patch card & a sharks shoulder patch.
The mega patch was nice, Byram was the hit of the break, I ordered 1 box before the price went up another $150....going to break into it this weekend

OPC Platinum is a funny hobby box. Lots of great colorful parallels and a grantees autograph. Its a great set.

This will probably get buried in the comments but can anyone give me a quick run down on current hockey card collecting? I've gotten caught up in these box opening videos and have been thinking about getting back into collecting next season but i'm having trouble finding good info on the web. So from what i'm gathering i'm guessing upper deck is the premier hockey card producer at the moment?
Are the nicer sets like premier/the cup/masked men (don't think they even make that anymore) something that generally comes out towards the end of a season? Looking at upper deck's current website and all i'm seeing is base set (series 1 is what i'm referring to) purchase options.
Are the nicer sets even purchasable or do you have to enter a lottery of some sort?
Last one, i promise, is the current collector focus mostly on collecting rookie cards or is that just a zeeree thing? I've been surprised by the videos i've seen that the focus is mostly on collecting the newer players cards.......for myself i'd be chasing my older heroes like gretzky, brett hall, lemiuex, roy, hasek etc but i guess that isn't really profitable? Feel free to ignore my paragraph, just curious if anyone has a little insight. I guess i want to get some nicer cards but i'm not really worried about making money on this, would just like to build a fun collection
The Cup is definitely the premium product for hockey cards but the last issue was 2019-2020 and while they usually release very late in the season it should have been out by now so it looks like we won’t get The Cup this year.
What’s happening is that card companies are having massive supply chain issues (related to materials they use on the cards) so all the sets are getting super delayed or cancelled. Hopefully this will work out by next year and we get The Cup back bc next years edition is going to have a ton of sick rookies (unlike this year) - Zegras, Raymond, Knight, Seidel, Caufield, etc will all be coming.
Without The Cup this year, Premier is prob the most premium card available rn followed by Ultimate I would say. In terms of purchasing, anyone can buy them, you can get them either online or at your local card shop (keep in mind there are some rules, like if you are in America you can’t buy from an online retailer in Canada). In the US Dave and Adam’s is prob the retailer that you can easily find these products. If you’re in Canada you prob shouldn’t have any issue finding boxes anywhere.
And finally, yes, the primary focus in the hockey card collecting world (and sports in general) is rookies. In premium sets like this, specifically the RPA (rookie patch autos). Ofc sets have other autos or patches of current or former players that are short print and worth a lot (primarily Gretzky and McDavid are most sought after) but these inserts generally are few and far between and most people value the “true” rookie cards in any given year (that’s why in a box of 4-6 cards generally they guarantee at least one rookie but only a few are actually worth anything). Put it this way, for any given player, over their entire career, their most valuable card is probably going to be one of their rookie cards. Any card of theirs after then, unless some sort of super short print special card, is not going to be worth anything near their rookie card.
Absolutely not supporting these prices, I'll stick to buying singles. $1,000 for maybe $100? Thanks for taking one for the team.

As someone who’s years out from collecting but still likes to watch breaks, the hobby sucks nowadays. Everything is crazy expensive and you get less. Products have less diversity and what’s with the rookie inflation? Every hit is of a rookie now, and half the time that means a guy who’s gonna be out of the league within the year. I swear you can’t even get most notable players’ autographs/hits anymore, just rookies. Sp authentic used to be ~$100 for 3 autos now it’s 3 times the price for 2 lmao with a lower floor.
