Yes ma’am. The more they work with a person, the more they understand them. And can almost read your mind. They try hard to please no doubt. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. Take care and come again. God bless
Words cannot explain how much I enjoy your videos I will be 70 in March when I was a really young man every body used horses or mules to drag logs one old man told me he would not use a horse to drag with because a mule was so much smarter I didn’t realize what he was talking about till 30 years later when I owed my first 2 mules
Thank you, sir! That truly means a lot to me. I have several older gentlemen who watch my videos, and it makes me feel like I am in very good company. So I appreciate you being here and taking time to watch. Thanks for your kind words also. Take care my friend and come again, please
Dear Mr.Odom, In tonight's video, you mentioned that being out with Kate and Alice in the woods was " your happy place." To be honest, I didn't pay much attention to your statement. Then as your video went on, I was watching your mules. I even rewound the video a couple of times. I swear only conclusion that being out working with you is Kate's and Alice's happy place too. I was always taught that if you watch an equine's ears that's a way they talk to us. Anyway, so I watched both miles ears, plus, I watched their body language too. Little things, like their willingness to follow your guidance. The real selling point is when I think it was Alice that jumped up on a log and walked along its curbed surface . Mules are notorious for being very particular about hoof placement. Neither mule would make a move like that without full and complete trust in you. I was kind of taken a back. Then I knew, those mules are having a good time . Anyway, thank you Mr. Odom for your videos . They mean more to your viewers than you might realize.
@jamiechristly4773 You can even tell that with Jim's horses on working horses, now they aren't working with him they are acting out! They enjoy working our with him. Just like Alice and Kate like being out with Zach, you are 100% correct!
@@jamiechristly4773thank you ma’am. That truly means a lot to me. My videos don’t get a lot of views usually and my channel isn’t growing quiet like I would want it too. Thanks for sharing the video Zach. Really enjoyed the video and I appreciate you taking the time to make it. You offer a lot of experience and ideas for us. Kate and Alice are full of heart and they are willing to work for you. God Bless Y'all and stay safe out there working.
Hello Mr. Zach, This is Jimmy. Really enjoyed the video today! I really liked your comment when you said, "You have to have a good horse to have a good mule"! I thought about that and that kinda goes with everything in life doesn't it? And what the Lord is training us for with the trails we have to go thru sometimes like the day you just had. Makes you appreciate that much more when you have a good blessed day. Or at least, that's the way I think about things! God bless you Mr. Zach and your Family!
Yes, sir, Mr. JIMMY, you are right! I think about stuff like that all the time. The older I have gotten, the less I let things bother me when it goes bad. Because I know better… I know things will be OK in the end. God always makes away for his children. No matter how things turn out. I hope you’re doing better with your knee! I have been praying for you still. Thank you for the kind words as always and thanks for watching! Take care my friend and come again please. God bless.

It’s a slow process of healing a muscle atrophy unfortunately. But she’s getting there. I’ve taken June with me a couple times and worked her in with Kate and Alice. What a great way to make a living! I have watched all your videos and this thought crosses my mind every time. You obviously are happy and the mules look content as well. I did some logging myself (for firewood) and know at the end of the day I felt my legs. Now, at 78 can only work the farm from the seat of a forecart.
Yessir I understand that. Thank you sir and it really is a nice way to make a living. It’s a peaceful quiet way of making a living. I love being in the woods. Sometimes I get tired, such as in this video. I was really beat by the end of the day. Because we doubled up what we normally would do. Nonetheless we made it tho by dark thank goodness. When I use to hand cut for skidders, I would have to cut between 40-60 trees a day to make production. It was completely different tho. We just felled them and cut the tops out. But I’d run from that many every day lol. Cutting timber for mules and horses is a tad different..we have to buck the trees into saw logs where they are. And I normally 10 trees a day. So it’s quite a bit less! Less work and less stress. We don’t do the volume of a mechanical crew, but we don’t have too either. 2500 bd-ft is a really good day for us. This particular day in the video..we were a little over 3k. Maybe 3200-3300. It was a lot of work. But I am thankful. The challenges are nice at times. We’ve faced several on this job, but actually came out pretty good. Thanks for always watching my friend. I guess you’ve probably been here with me the longest. You’re the first person I ever remember commenting on my first video. I appreciate your dedication to my channel. Take care and come again. God bless
“Come here” means to move your feet. I’ll say it when I want them to go. Sometimes I’ll say it after I put them in reverse and if they’re side stepping. It basically means, to move your feet.

Of course! So, a tie log is a hardwood log that is used in production of railroad crossties. It’s usually the lower grade type stuff that won’t make good grade lumber. Hope that helps make sense of it for you. Thanks for watching as always. Take care and come again. God bless

Thank you for being here and taking time to watch and also comment. Take care my friend and come again. God bless.
Can I ask what a tie log is used for?
Of course! So, a tie log is a hardwood log that is used in production of railroad crossties. It’s usually the lower grade type stuff that won’t make good grade lumber. Hope that helps make sense of it for you. Thanks for watching as always. Take care and come again. God bless
Zach, who is Skylar? Is he your son?
Skylar is my stepson. He use to work with me quite a bit before he got his drivers license. He’s with us for a week and then with his dad for a week. He’s didn’t feel right working for me on the weeks he was with his dad. So he got a “family neutral” job at our local tractor place in town. I miss him a lot. He was really good help. Thanks for watching my friend! Take care and come again. God bless
