For the last couple of years I´ve had people asking me to go to Crete and visit Takis Shelter, I checked his page and I thought he was a great guy with a vision, a labor of love.
It was time we paid him a visit.

@@MSD.4543 Yeah he found a sick puppy dumped at the place Takis stores his trash. He took the puppy cared for it, and felt like that was his destiny so he sold his nightclub and started a non profit shelter.

We must be clear about this: Takis would prefer *not* to look after 350 abandoned dogs on his own in his shelter. He would prefer no dogs would be abandoned in Crete and that all dogs there had loving homes. He would also prefer to have lots of help. But there is no one in his village in apart from a few volunteers who are willing to do what he does and people still keep throwing their pets away. If Takis did not do what he does, all those 350 animals would be dead now. Instead, they are alive and happy and many have gone to live in beautiful, happy forever homes.
Like Tia of Villalobos (Pit Bulls and Parolees) says: "I hope some day that we won't be needed any more, but meantime I will continue to save as many as I can."
Agreed. Whenever I hear about critics of this guy, all I can think is, "what would be the fate of these dogs if Takis wasn't doing what he does?" and "what are YOU doing to care for hundreds of abandoned, neglected dogs?" I've yet to hear or see anyone who is better at doing what Takis does. He deserves our full support.
Full admiration for Takis for what he's doing. A good, caring loving man. We are blessed to have him take care of our needy animals. A change from the beginning...from a party guy to a caring and unselfish human being. Thank you and God will bless you somehow.
I wonder if veterinary students could travel internationally and spend a couple weeks there for credit?? I’ll bet if veterinary colleges would do that then he would be able to get a large amount of vets in training to come help
But the dogs there outnumber the people 80 splillion-to-one* How are you going to find Forever Homes for all of them?

Yes...I sense there is relief and understanding...they are going thru the same trials trying to do good and change cultural beliefs and the trauma they create as a consequence.
He gave him medicine for one of the worst diseases that occur....for an extreme situation. They are focused on saving all of them...not just the easy,inexpensive cases and that says alot about both of them! Actions speak louder than words!! ❤ The Athenian lady is now also an important Ally. She is fighting the same battle in Athens creating great change and rescues.😊
I donate monthly to both Takis and Viktor. Both of these men are incredible. I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada and those are the two animal shelters I help.

I do a monthly donation to Victor, and I have done to Takis, but I am thinking on a monthly donation for Takis too; I donate for 3 USA organizations, but I think Takis need it more.

Let us not forget Takis also saves kitties, Burro's, goats, and pretty much anything else that breathes and needs his help. I also think he helps us who watches his Channel. Here we gain belief again in humanity. There are people out there who they are just here to spread love. For those of us who rescue it's wonderful to see someone like LarkHill, Eldad, Takis, etc as we learn from them how to do a better job, Etc. Thank you so much for doing this taking the time out to go visit him and learn of him and posting the truth about Takis.

Viktor, the best thing you did was your offer to be there for Takis in the future, for difficult cases or needed medicines. To have that connection, to not feel alone and isolated in his sometimes overwhelming tasks, I think was the greatest gift you gave to Takis! Thank you for going to visit him and making this connection and lending more exposure and support to Takis Shelter!

Viktor, it was great to see you meet with Takis. You were truly amazed at what one man can accomplish. Takis seems to have so many plans for his property. It would be nice if more volunteers see this video and help him. How he arranges adoptions while caring for all those dogs is amazing. A very nice man and I hope he can obtain more help.
25:04 Listen to this - Takis is emptying the bladder of the paralyzed dog every day. Who on earth would do that - especially with all the work he has to do? This man is beyond common standards.

Just a tidbit of info.
There are people willing to express the bowels and bladder of their animal. It takes a bit of time but, once you get the feel for it's super easy.
And YES I was one of those people.
I had a Manx kitten I fostered from my old shelter who was completely incontinent (Manx syndrome) but, otherwise healthy. I expressed her 2 x a day and while she was running around the house wore a diaper (made for dogs in season) with a maxi pad in it. At night she slept in an oversized dog kennel so he skin would not get infected and got a chance to breathe. I had 5 different vets told me to put her down. I refused and my shelter supported me (I was the vet tech there back then). The other vets felt I did her a disservice and said I would wind up breaking my & Button's hearts. They said 6 months...IF I was lucky.
We had 10 wonderful years that I would not trade for anything! She was so sweet and never minded being "squeezed" or wearing her diaper. She did everything else all my other 6 cats did. I had 10 wonderful years before she developed Mega Colon (also common for the breed) and I had to release her from this world. Happily purring her last and licking my face while in my arms.
Was she a bit more work than other cats? Maybe but it took just as much time to express her as it did to clean the litter boxes. I do not regret my decision to keep her. No one minute. I know there are others out there that feel the same and am hoping they will open their hearts to more special needs animals.
I really don't know how Takis manages to hold it all together but, he does and every animal life is very precious to him. He will always do his best for his animals with no thought of himself.
@reventlow23 When I heard that, I just kept saying "wow, wow, Takis empties the small dog's bladder." It is mind blowing to see one person/Takis so giving, kind, hard-working, smart, compassionate, funny, fun, caring & strong to do what is right. Takis is truly "one of a kind Angel."

The best thing about Takis, he not only helps a lot of dogs, but changed also the whole system.
He has a lot of power I think in his community.
He makes the city lots of money.
Builds a house, brings tourism. Spends a lot of money on dog food and medicine, takes care of the stray dog problem on his island.
He makes lasting change to the future of mistreated dogs in Greek and all around the world.
This man deserves a nobel peace price in my opinion. I have seen no person as of yet who works this hard and sacrifices so much, not for himself but for the animals.
And finally he gets recognition and can improve his own living standarts.
I'm really happy for him that he will soon have his own home and doesn't have to live in a container room.
I had a friend, years ago, whose dig was born without an exit (in the Vets words OMG, he hasn't got an arse hole). They operated but in doing so, cut the muscles. He was going to live no more than 6 months they said but he lived to 12. He knew that, after each walk he had to jump in the bath to have his rear washed

You can tell all those dogs love Takis. they wouldn't show so much love for him if he wasn't doing a wonderful job. You could tell right away if those dogs were scared of him but they love him. Donating as soon as I can to you .
yes I agree with takis about people should be punished for the way they tread dogs cats puppies, Animals give so much love affection and they get treated terribly, I can see the dogs and cats love you,a dog is for life not just for Christmas owners don't understand that, love to you and all the beautiful dogs cats I hope Elvis is doing well, ❤ xxx

lol i actual sent victor an e/mail,,months ago,,cos of a dog called jane,,and her injuries,,broken spine,,asking if vic could do something for her,,telling him about the situation takis was in,with 400 dogs,,and how he was struggling to care for them,on his own,,with no help from the govt or community,,poor guy,,,victor posted me bk,saying he already new about takis,,and he,d visit,,asap,,hes finanally made it,,lol,,,,,,,,even sent an e/mail to that simon cowell guy,,who claims to love dogs,,asking if he could maybe make a donate to takis,,from his 26m,,lol

Yeah, me as well. I'd heard of Takis and absolutely love what he does, so was worried and didn't watch the video when it initially showed up on my feed. Luckily, it came back around today, so I clicked.. so glad I did. These two together.. what a great team helping animals.

One little correction: not the diminutive Takis, but his original Christian name Theoklitos means in Greek "one that God called to do His work". And of course I also agree with the rest of your post about heroes and great men!

Ce Monsieur Takis est quelqu'un de formidable !!! En France près de 100 000 chiens et chats sont abandonnés chaque années. C'est le mode de consommation des individus qu'il faut changer, c'est véritablement un problème d'éducation ! Les animaux (domestiques ou sauvages) ne sont pas des marchandises mais des êtres vivants que l'on doit protéger par des lois, au même titre que les humains, les animaux devrait avoir des droits !

This is so beautiful and heart warming. I have 10 rescue dogs, along with 3 rescue donkeys, and a rescued handicapped bull. This kind of work is my dream! If I had the finances. I would have many more animals. God bless all the unsung heroes around the globe that are taking care of the needy animals. Keep these people in your prayers and support them if you can.

@@ExtremeAnimalRescue I always hoped that Takis would have a swimming pool for the dog's, especially as he get so many with paralysis and hydro therapy is an excellent way towards building up muscle atrophy. Takis has so much land there that it would not be a problem to build a huge pool. The Dogs would LOVE it in the hot dry Summers and woukd have great fun. Victor, please suggest again to Takis and also the beautiful Valia, to build a swimming pool. The hydro therapy alone would be invaluable. Thank you for visiting Takis and for all the medication you gave him. You are all amazing, incredible people. 🙏
