Very good advice, I went through all of security with my drivers license in my hand and discovered I lost it when I got to my gate early. I searched my pockets and carryon pockets and went to restroom and rechecked everything, security was close and I asked there and looked under conveyers..the same time I locked eyes with the security police I remembered what I did, I tossed it in the bag with my partially eaten breakfast and later tossed it! I told the officer I think I threw out my drivers license, he had kind eyes, and asked if I knew where. We went to the first receptacle he popped off the lid, I looked in and it was empty, I remember it only had a small amount of trash, facilities had emptied them all, he asked me to wait and then escorted me down a corridor ending with big grey gondolas over flowing with trash bags. I asked if I could look in them and he said he would help! We worked fast as they were about to call my flight, the last bag of about 25 was light, I thought this has to be it. It was it with my picture to prove it. I said I found it! He said,”You did?..we were happy, I said High Five as I lifted my palm, he said let’s wash our hands first! Reagan Airport. Before Covid. It was an important trip, my son was having a backyard pop up wedding the next day. Forever grateful to the kind hearted police officer.
And now I carefully take the extra moment to secure documents before I take my shoes off.
Oh wow!!! So glad you got on that flight!
that's crazy luck. I've lost 2 things at security and one time they wouldn't even go look. The second time, i JUST passed through and left my phone on the tsa scanner. I was donethere and I passed through 1 set of doors and technically could not go back in but i talked to someone outside and he told me to go back through the doors and sound like i was 100% sure it's there...which i was. The hallway guard just beyond TSA stopped me to say i must go forward and not back, and i told him my phone was right there...i could see the tsa agent i just left. The guard said he had an iphone brought to him. It was mine. Well, if you couldn't go back where you came from, why did he have it? Anyways, he asked me to prove it was mine. I unlocked it on the first try and that wasn't enough, he asked to prove it by finding a photo of myself...i don't take selfies. I had to open an app that had my passport info and photo saved.
my toddler dropped his lovey in the security line: a 2" plastic horse that he gripped in his hand day and night. *everyone* in that line heard me call out "does anyone see a tiny horse?", they all looked for it and then passed it in a relay through to us at the end of the belt where we were retreiving our bags. like 10 people passed it from person to person. a group cheer topped it off! people are good.
Excellent tip. I’ve lost my boarding pass once. A nightmare.
My personal very long experience of more than 43 yrs in travelling via airports proved that the best and most safe and secured place to keep the passport all along the trip is to keep it inside your front "blue jeans "pants pocket.❤
Omg, funny timing of this video! I was in TSA PreCheck, USA. I set the alarm off 3x! Removed my jacket, shoes, no metal on my clothes, no belt. Argh!! I almost begged her to pat me down as I pat myself down, while others were easily walking past me. No other agent tried to help. Meanwhile my husband on the other side is throwing coach’s hand signals to check here & check there. Then finally the TSA agent figured it out. Tip: do not have ID/Passport in an RFID cover when walking thru the detector. I had it in my hand the whole time (bcuz it was 6am & no coffee 🥱), in clear view but she couldn’t figure it out either until the 4th try. 🎉
Your husband - coaching 😂😂😂
Get a passport holder with a neck lanyard. The holder has room for your id, your loose dollar bills, your airline tickets. Also get separate lanyard holder for your cellphone.
Oh wow, I would check the weather first and then mix and match.
The things we forget to do, you help us remember 😊
Yay!
Wear a shirt with a top pocket, my daughter 16 years a flight attendant only once has had someone riffle through someone’s overhead locker baggage stole credit cards/ passports etc. yes they were arrested on landing
Thank you very much . That's really simple but very good tip.
Thank you for all your great tips! Saving❤
Absolutely 💯 keep everything tight. Don't want to risk it with anything loose.
Always!
Yup. I put my Passport away in a zippered pocket when I go through security. BUT I usually hold my wallet in my hand because I don't want to put it in a bin and then get separated from it.
Yep I have never let go of my ID (passport or DL) or boarding pass. Just hold it in my hand even if going thru the scanner. Never had a problem.
I wear a sweatshirt with a pouch pocket whenever we travel. I put ID and ticket into that pocket
My advice is that keep your passport on your person ALL the times. Not in yoyr back ir side pockets but in yiur shirt's front pocket with a button OR have a small pouch that goes around the waste.
In PH we put everything between our armpit so we can use both hands if necessary. You're welcome.
Success after a bit of game playing. Hurrah for the passport🎉
Woohoo!
FYI - Years ago I had a super thin and light grey laptop. I put it in a grey bin by itself, and then put the rest of my stuff through the zapper at DCA While I was getting wanded down I didn't notice a TSA person stacking and removing bins from the conveyor. They accidentally stacked an empty bin on top of my laptop. I packed everything else and took my flight, not realizing I had left my laptop. Later I realized I left my laptop. The next day I flew back to DCA and claimed my laptop from lost and found.
Oh wow!
@TravelTipsbyLaurie I learned some things from that experience. It's essentially impossible to contact the airport Lost and Found over the phone. Also, every 3 days, all lost and found items are considered unclaimed and are sent to a surplus warehouse to be sold or disposed of.
35 yrs ago I learned this, yet, I went passport-less, until 2003.
Around my neck is a lanyard holding a pouch, inside my shirt, next to my heart.
Actually I noticed that most of the airport security recommends this practice. I remember before I would hold my passport or sometimes I would tuck it under my bag but these days the security will always tell me to zip it into my bag.
I always designate one special zipper pocket of my carry-on for all items that would either be handheld or pocket items. So, for example, my keys, my wallet, my cell phone, my passport, any pocket change--all that stuff goes into one special zipper pocket of my travel bag. And as Laurie says, then I can retrieve just those things I want after security---which is usually just my phone and a single credit card. (I see no reason to suffer with a lumpy wallet in my hip pocket while seated on an airplane seat for six hours, and I won't be needing my keys again for a couple days or weeks.)
Wear a shirt with a front pocket and put your ps in there and then pull your other things
That’s exactly how I almost lost my wallet at Manchester Airport because tsa wanted most items in a separate bin!
Thanks for all the tips. I'm with you though, put it all in a designated, zippered pocket! Then I will Know where everything is! (I keep repeating this to myself!) 😂
I place my passport in a belt wallet so it’s on my person under my shirt so I know exactly where it is
My passports, money and IDs all have a specific place they go and they go right back there when I use them otherwise I will freak out trying to find them. They don't go in a different place always in that one place which is fairly easy to access so therefore easy to put back ❤
I'm from NY and I don't mind taking up my space in life. I'm not going to stress about being efficient, in a hurry, and rushing and stressing so the people behind me like me. Sorry I take my time and people can't wait.
We are juggling our options: money belt, neck wallet or small safety sling bag.. traveling from US to Portugal in April. Our guys aren't interested in a sling bag & we need a big enough item to stash passports, ID, tickets cc, & phones.
Could the guy wear the lanyard type bag/neck wallet? Mostly he will not need the passports or tickets until certain times so maybe y'all can scooch to the side and get those ready when you do need them? On the train my husband keeps his hand in his front pocket around his wallet. Other hand is on suitcase. Here is a front pocket wallet (remember to only pack the cards you need): amzn.to/3S0HK9K
Lost my boarding pass once in Egypt..was there a panic..found it in a pot plant..wise words ..put everything away..

IF I'M NOT GOING INTN'L THAT PASSPORT STAYS SAFELY PACKED..WHAT I USE INSTEAD IS MY PASSPORT CARD THAT I IMMEDIATELY PUT AWAY IN MY WALLET STYLE PHONE CASE, WHICH THEN GOES IN MY BAG FOR X-RAY. AND I ALSO HAVE A "SENTRI CARD" (FOR QUICK BORDER CROSSINGS) WHICH I CAN USE AS A "REAL ID"...BUT I DO AVOID USING MY PASSPORT "BOOK" BECAUSE THE OTHERS I CAN LOSE AND BE OK...BUT CANT BE WITHOUT PASSPORT.
The last time I went through TSA pre-COVID, I had my passport & boarding pass in a clear holder and lanyard around my neck. TSA allowed me to walk through that way. I wonder if they will still allow me to do so now.
I’ve heard you can carry your passport through.
Amazing travel hack (sarcastic) ! Wow. Pockets ! Zippered bags ! Just wow ! 😅
Star Trek vibe
One thing at a time.
Always zipped up in your bag. Never loose in bin.
Yes!
Thanks after 9/11 disaster, the security is becoming an idiot circus of checking and checking, no fun travelling anymore. This job costs money for travellers. It's should be the government to pay the security. 😢😢
the tsa has a program where you can get precertifed for a fee. you can go to the fast lane, show the card, and you're through. it is not free but how much is your time worth?
I used to love to fly now I avoid it because of TSA
Thanks for the heads up. Im so scared 😳 of traveling 🧳. Just want a peaceful trip.
I get a wheelchair at airports.
FACTS
Elementary
Laurie I so appreciate all your tips. We are going on a 10 day Mediterranean cruise (seniors) and I’m pretty good health but we want to take our massage gun to relieve back pain after long port days. Is this allowed?
H, I do not know.
I put my passport in a neck sling .
Always keep you I’d/wallet on your person at all times
I leave them in my purse 👛
I never show another ID if I show my passport.
Yep, I misspoke.
Just be a migrant no tsa at all
Please stop saying, "I'm a pilot's wife." you have good information, but you don't need to validate that information with that statement. 😂
“ID and your passport”? Your passport is your ID…
Yes, I couldn't scrub that part out. Thx
I have pockets in my pants
Lanyard
Nope. It's staying in my hand. If my personal item gets through the screening before I do and sits at the end of the conveyor, it's susceptible to someone taking it either intentionally or unintentionally.
Great tip as always Laurie. Not only do I put it into my personal item but into the same spot I’ve designated for my passport & boarding every time. For me, it reduces the potential for those anxious “Where did I put it?!” moments.
Some airports - Tampa comes to mind - require showing boarding pass and/or ID TWICE - once to get on the tram to the satelite boarding gates and once to the actual gate. Train your muscles to put your docs in the same place EVERY TIME!
Ooh great tip! One pocket every trip.
🤔💯Thank you!!!❤️
I always wear a passport and ticket wallet around my neck; it's small enough to put in my personal bag at security.
I stuff things in my bra!
Great tip! I started doing exactly that after I dropped my passport in a tunnel leading to aeroplane. Thank God there was a good man behind me who picked up my passport and brought it to the plane showing it to everybody.
I just got back from a multi- country trip and none of them allowed me to walk thru screening with my passport. It had to go in the bin with my other personal items or in my carry on. But like you, its the first thing I grab and put in my designated place for fear of losing it.
Any time I don’t need to have my passport out I put it in my small travel purse that is strapped into the front zippered pocket of my large personal item bag. It is secure , double zipped, with easy access and I always know where it is. I just got home from a Rome to Barcelona cruise. I binge watched your videos before the trip and used your advice.
How lovely a voyage! What tips were most helpful?
@@AroundTheWorldWithEase I used the foot sling on our flights. I have short legs and that reduces tension on my back and pressure behind my knee. I bought Laurie’s recommended neck support, although I looked like an accident victim. I slept several hours on both our long flight legs. I packed my vests, except I wore my travel vest that is thin and has about 10 pockets. Laurie says if you get too warm with a vest you can’t tie it around your waist like you can with sleeves. I took neutral turtlenecks, long sleeve T’s , vests and coats. I bought a few silk shirts (not Laurie’s idea), that took up no room, but gave a pop of color to my outfits. We had a launderette on our deck, so I packed light, knowing I could wash about 3 days in.
Being part of the million mile club this "purse"..."strapped on the front" makes me cringe. The gypsies love seeing people like you coming. You've made it so convenient for them to seal everything in one heist.
That's why shirts, pants, and any other form of clothing has pockets.
I have seen a million travel tipsters. You're one in a million! You are a natural teacher. Bravo and Bon Voyage!
Thanks so much!
Yes, this helps me tremendously- and I thank you! I haven’t flown for years and appreciate all your travel tips, have been watching several of your videos. I love that you get right to the point and have a sweet, charming style while doing so. Thanks again! 😘💕🙏🏼
I would add, don’t put it in an outside pocket. Had my passport stolen.
😮
Getting ready for a trip to London with my family and stressing out! I travel alot and in Europe but never with grandkids, etc. Your tips have really helped me. Keeping fingers crossed for a good, safe trip! Thanks!
Good luck!!
I wear a jacket with zippered pockets. when I get ready to go to the airport, I load EVERYTHING from my pants pockets to the jacket, (except my pocketknife goes into me checked bag or stays home) and then when I go into screening, my passport and printed boarding pass go into a zippered pocket, and the jacket goes into the bin. I have a pair of golf pants I wear for security - no rivets, and no belt, and they are comfortable for flying.
Passport checked after baggage claim in Europe…makes more sense.
That is a great advice. I always get nervous about losing my passport after showing it to security and moving to pushing my luggage and thing through the scanning machine
What's wrong with you people... just leave it in your carry on until after security. No one is allowed to take anything through the metal detectors or full body scanners except their clothes. Having your ID and / or passport in your bag as it goes through the scanner isn't going to cause the world to end. Grow up!
So true! I put my ID down to put my carry on onto the belt. I thought I left/lost it. TSA was very helpful, and I submitted a list item report. I didn't find it until I traveled back home ..... Jacket pocket 😔
Same thing has happened to my mom a couple of times.
Lost item report
After going through security and sitting down to put shoes on mine fell behind the seat landing next to the wall. I couldn't find it for 20 minutes before an international flight! OMG. And on the way back from that trip was asked to remove RFID wallet from around my neck after putting it back. I also had to remove my neck scarf. She's right though. It's best to be organized.
Just pretend you're here illegally, and you won't be required to show any form of ID.
Great video. Question: how do you take your money belt(s) through security. The agents or people infront of me can steal the belts. Can I put the money in my pockets or hold it in a nylon bag and walk through the security?
Hi, you cannot wear them in airport security. I would have them in an inner zipped pocket if you are worried.
What about front pockets?
What a load of rubbish!
Great info, I’m always juggling with what to do with my ticket and passport going thru security. I always have to go thru body scanner because of knee replacment.
Those body scanners are fun, aren't they. My hip sets them off. I just look forward to dropping my jeans to show off my scar 😂😂😂
Good tip! I flew to the States in 2022, and I'm going again in April (IAH, baby!). There's so much to juggle! And I worry what that body scanner is going to do to the passport chip.
I've got to go through your back catalog and remind myself what I've forgotten.
If there's been any major changes since 2022, would love to see a vid on it, but I also feel like it'd be just for me!
Oh wow!!! Did you come up with that all by yourself?!! 🤣🤣🤦🏻
Yup, wallet, phone, watch, ID, and boarding pass always go in the same zippered pocket in my backpack. I cringe at people who put these valuables in a tray.
My culture solved this problem 1400 years ago by inventing pockets.
Anything to make traveling difficult. In the meantime they're hopping, skipping and jumping into this country. In Atlanta they're led through a backdoor to fly all over.
This sounds like common sense but I actually needed to hear this because I would lose my phone just like this if I wasn’t using it 24/7. What a nightmare you prevented!
Simple solution. Think ahead and wear something with pockets.
If I have back pockets I’m putting it there until I get all my things gathered.
I always put my ID or passoprt back in my pocket. Done this for over 100 flights with no issues. I one time put it in through xray and almost forgot it. Never again.
Just seems like common sense. I always just shove everything except ID and ticket into a zipped pocket ahead of time. Then after ID check, shove those in as well. Everything is secured in one place until after screening.
Can anyone make a suggestion for me. I am traveling with my toddler and parent and husband. Unfortunately my husband will be leaving early on the trip which leaves us with a stroller, car seat, and 2 carry on luggages and 2 personal items to carry on our own. I am also pregnant. I’m stressing about getting the seat on the plane while also everything else.
Dude... Carry your passport and Id and then pocket it after its checked, along with your boarding pass. An please, when you pass the metal detector, dont be the person who is only using one hand. Grab your stuff and move to the bench. Cmon now.
How do you lose something that you placed in a bucket 30 seconds ago with your shoes? Maybe I’m not the right demographic
And every time I go through security when I get to the end of it. I take advantage of the seat or the table and double check all my crap right there. Boarding pass, phone, laptop? Whatever I want to make sure I've got it all. That way if something happened to get stolen or stayed there, I've at least know where it went missing
After putting my cabin bag and personal items (eg iPad etc) on the tray it goes through the scanner and carries on into the distance. At this point I sometimes get pulled out for a pat down check and can only hope that no-one has picked anything out of my stuff before I can get to it! Stress!
At security I al always affraid my stuff will arrive before me to take it back. I have heard some people who had items stollen purse, passport, tablet...from the person before them. I always have one eye at the backet that have my stuff in
What? you have to go through security because you have to go on flights? As a pilots wife you have to fly?
No no no… never let your passport out of your sight in an area you can get held up in. Hold it, as soon as your bag comes out of X-ray then if you want you can put it away. She’s making it a bigger deal than it is. What is a big deal is being separated from it and you have no control.
Nope, I've been told no less than 3x that I am not allowed to hold my passport through security and they made me put it through the x-ray machine
Always great tips Laurie! ❤️
Hope these tips help!💪🏼
God forbid I just use my pocket 2 seconds before grabbing my bags
I carry those items in my pants pocket. They never leave my body.
You’ve lost weight or are doing something different. You look great.
Illegals don't need to show documents at the airport. Why do American citizens have to do that?
I have a small passport thing i wear around my neck. It guess right back in there.
I have a wristlet wallet that has a pocket meant for phone that my passport fits so well into. That’s where I have it the whole time. Allows me to have it at the ready but then it’s the last item I put into bin.
Sorry youre a pilots wife. I used to be one. What a joke.
Put something in a pocket ! Great advice 🙈
