  • Have you ever wondered how to start a renovation?
If you have ever dreamed of improving your lifestyle or your net worth through home renovation, we get you!!
We just bought a small ( 26oo sq ft) house built in the 1970's and are starting a whole home renovation! This home renovation is our second on this UA-cam channel and the 10th in our married life!
We are sharing the whole process of this home renovation, week by week, to hopefully inspire you to take on that project you have been dreaming of!
This week, our home renovation begins with demolishing! We are also setting up the design plans for this renovation, which we wanted to share this week but could not due to technical difficulties.
All of the carpet in this house has to be removed. This is really one of the easiest DIY-able elements in any home renovation. All you need in a construction blade ( Chris uses one like this rstyle.me/+cu6...) and a pry bar (rstyle.me/+RpQ....
We also tackled removing the original kitchen, toilets, and cabinetry in the original bathrooms.
We can hopefully start removing the drywall once all the big stuff is out of the house. A lot of our design planning depends on what we find for structural framing elements, so we hope to uncover that quickly so we can finalize our interior design ideas for this renovation.
However, that depends on whether we find asbestos in this house. Built in the 1970s, this house could be FULL of it, and we cannot really tackle the renovation until we know for sure if we have asbestos in it.
Join us on this journey as we transform our old house into a dream home (one we can actually afford)
If you are wondering how to renovate a house yourself, we are sharing our daily experiences so you can see what it is REALLY like! Subscribe now and hit the notification bell to catch our weekly updates!
Chris and I will be sharing the day-by-day reality of renovating a whole home, including a kitchen renovation, 4 bathroom renovations, and hopefully one beautiful backyard makeover! Our biggest challenge is creating a spacious kitchen in this small 1970s split-level, but we're up for the task.
Join us EVERY WEEK ON THURSDAY as we share the day-to-day construction progress on our new home. We can't wait to see this old house come to life! Let's do this!

A cliffhanger! I can't wait to see what you decided for the floorplan. When you showed the options last week that had your office at the front of the house with the powder room behind it (and I made a suggestion to pull the powder room forward (really meant to the right) and put a closet for the office to the left of it, I didn't realize that would cover up part of that beautiful staircase. Regarding the bedroom upstairs and adding a bathroom, one thought is to add the bathroom with an entrance on the hallway side and a closet next to the outside wall. A standard bathroom is 5 x 8, which can support the 2 secondary bathrooms. Of course, I don't know the measurements and am not an expert. Heather, I can't believe you managed to save the tiles! It will be a nice memento to have. I remember Amway from 1970! And there's a Habitat for Humanity Restore about a mile from me. I was there a couple of weeks ago dropping off window screening and looking for a couple of things. One of which I found. A buffet lamp to put on my dresser. It is now painted gold and has a new lampshade. The house looks good with the tree limbed! See you next week!

RIGHT!!! Hiding the staircase is one of the downsides to that design :( I LOVE that you found a lamp at habitat!! There is nothing like a good thrift score! I am so happy about the tiles and you won't belive it, the past homeowners daughter may come for a set, her mom is now passed, what a lovely momento of her childhood home! I hope she does come for them.
