I find some of your language confusing. Melody is a sequence of singular notes. Harmony is the combination of simultaneously sounded notes. The word you want when talking about "melodies" is harmony. You can then say melody instead of top-line as well.

It's though the editing process that does that, since things are clipping it can sometimes mess up the audio in premiere pro
