Without touchpads it's useless.
steam input and gyro is what i've been looking for. Insta buy for me if it comes to the USA.
No trackpad = no buy. I want the steam deck's controls on a fullsize gamepad. I can already buy an 8bitdo ultimate if I want a conventional layout.
What's the point of steam controller if its not steam controller anymore?
No hall effect, no rummble. Maybe, no buy? Edit: I'd pay an extra $20 for those two features.
Good thing I still got my OG steam controller... this is just a steam controller in branding only.
The stadia controllers work really well on steamdeck
Honestly, I have never been a PC player. I’ve always been into counsel since that’s what I grew up with but lately I have been playing more PC games than my PlayStation
Switch to PC. PlayStation games come to PC eventually, and your PC will last longer than the console
Curious that these would be Japan only. I mean, I'm pretty sure Hori is a Japanese company, but I remember hearing that PC gaming is a rather small scene in Japan. Maybe that's changing now that Steam Decks exist and are being sold there?
Anyway, this controller does look neat, I'm kinda interested in it. The touch thumbsticks are a neat addition, generally they're set to enable gyro when your thumb is on the stick, and disable when you're off. It's like gyro aiming with a Switch controller but better. Of course, you can also just configure it to do whatever you want as well.
I just went with the DualSense Edge. It's the best controller in terms of functions.
i'm really not a fan of the design. and they really didn't include a touchpad in the middle like a ps5 controler ? damn valve.
Logan your not old and don't call yourself old ok and the controller you just showed looks cool but i'm not sure if i want to get it
Lol. Thanks. I appreciate that.
I understand why you wouldn't. I'm going to get it for one reason... for views. 😂
@RedBandanaGaming true and getting different controllers for the views is enjoyable
Awesome news a simple controller for steam no rumble wow no wonder is 50 dollars
I think Hori simply saw an opportunity to get something viable quickly in the market for Japanese PC players. Nothing fancy it's a slight rebuild of an existing design. But it does detect when your thumb is in on the stick, is fully customizable in Steam Input as well as their own app when outside of Steam. I guess one can't complain for $50 bucks too much. I guess it doesn't have the trackpads, mechanical buttons, and hall effect sticks, but if a US company attempts all that, you can bet it will be in the $200 dollar range. I don't know if Valve would attempt a full fledged pro controller or a more budget option themselves. Remember Valve actually prototyped a crazy controller (the owl) with a screen but then backed off when they realized how much it would cost to make and sell. In fact the actual Steam Controller itself was very budget in comparison.
no rumble
Who cares.... the whole reason I wanted a steam controller is for the touch pads.. instead of joy sticks... so now they're FINALLY going to make a new version and remove the 9nly thing I liked about them... the touch pads... wtf
Wtf is the point in making a "new" controller.... thats just like all the other controllers... might as well by an x box controller
Nah
Boo ads
Speculation is this was made for the Japanese market because they don't have a good controller for PC. Xbox has little presence in Japan, so the controllers are apparently not easy to find. DualSense while easily available is not the best controller for PC. There is a chance this may never make it over to the US. Hori most likely made a few modifications to an existing controller (notice lack of trackpads) and reached out to Valve for approval and some help with it as there are pics showing that it shows up in Steam Input apparently when plugged into a pc with Steam. Unfortunately, I don't think Valve will make or approve anything for the US (with trackpads) until they either release Steam OS for the desktop or bring out a desktop version of the Steamdeck. They will want both available at the same time to market any respective releases better, I suspect. I've been waiting so long for a Steam Controller 2 I will import one if I can anyway even it is a bit gimped without the trackpads. It is almost there. Edit: These are listed on Play-Asia currently with no way to buy them.
Any new competitors to Microsoft is welcome. Especially with SteamOS for desktops. Windows is as bad as MacOS at this point
But the dualsense is by far the best controller for PC regardless?
Huge steam fan here, I hate this, not eating it up whatsoever.
@@lightningvini Totally get it. I think the controller fits a specific need in a specific place. The trackpads may make the controller monstrous, and the Japanese market might hate it? I wonder if the original Steam Controller ever officially was released in Japan? This controller could flop in Japan anyway. I hope that does not send the message to Valve to not even bother developing the controller themselves, however.
