How to embed an Excel file into Word

Learn how to embed an Excel file into Word. When you insert the file into the document, the recipient can easily open the file that you attach. This is really useful when writing a report and you want to refer to another file like a spreadsheet. Rather than copy & paste the content from the file, which can sometimes be messy, embed the Excel file instead.

Thanks - To display the contents of the Excel file in Word, don't click select Display as Icon at it will insert as a table instead.

Hey, do you have any idea why an excel that is embedded in word, looks different on the sharepoint online site vs when downloaded offline? On the offline version there is an extra tab in the excel. Sorry for the random question but i'm not finding anything on the internet about this.

Good question Nigel - It will be a stand alone file. If the original excel file is updated it won't be updated in word. You would select this if the recipients don't have access to the original excel file location.
