rockerchu I think it has to do with the dance and fashion for this comeback specifically because a lot of gg aren’t strong in the dancing department compared to bgs (I don’t want to compare) but idle aren’t using heels this comeback as it would be too difficult cause of the choreo, I might be wrong but that’s what I gathered from fans and reactors
@@thisuserisfoxxy So, I get that for Uh Oh and ONLY that song. PD's saying that I-dle as a whole is gender neutral, which... I don't agree with given that the G stands for Girl, and because their first three songs felt very feminine to me. I do agree that Uh Oh absolutely is masculine--it reminds me of easier boy group choreos.
I think if more companies let their female artists make their own music like they let boygroups do, we would have more girl groups like (G)I-dle. I do believe a huge part of why (G)I-dle sounds so gender neutral is because they are a lot more heavily involved in music production. they make music they want to make, not "music for a girl group with concept X"
That's the thing, companies don't train or bring up talent for girl groups to compose and produce songs. For such a long time it has literally been girl groups receiving title tracks or things from a different PD or the label hires a different songwritter. G Idle is unique in the sense the Soyeon actually grew up writing songs and lyrics. She had the opportunity to showcase her songwriting or lyric composition on unpretty rapstar. But yeah, right now it is not the case because not many companies want to invest in bringing up idols that are heavily involved in composing and producing their title tracks, as there is way too much of a large risk from their point of view. Soyeon is honestly a rare case, especially since G Idle has managed to get at least a win for every comeback so far and were the rookie monsters of 2018. If Soyeon continues to succeed, she could turn around the K-pop industry potentially for female idols. Hence why I root for them every come back and buy their albums :)
It is easier to train someone to sing than to compose. Soyeon is rare, she can even sing her own demo guide. If more groups are to compose their own songs, we definitely would've more variety, but much more flops as well.
That awesome scene with Soyeon and the burning mic? It's an homage to one of the all time greats - Rakim Allah. The whole video's general feel is reminiscent of his '99 masterpiece "When I B on tha Mic", produced by DJ Premier, but that scene is basically identical to the original. And as someone who grew up on the Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, M.O.P, Public Enemy, and indeed Eric B. and Rakim, that's so amazing to me that 20 years later, a phenomenal young emcee in my hometown of Seoul by the name of Jeon Soyeon would pay homage to one of the greatest emcees to ever live. I have a strong feeling that in 20 years, people will be making music and music videos inspired by her.

I think G-Idle have a really great potential, as a (young) KPOP group among the others and also as a girl group in a close minded and sexist country/industry. They show they can do anything they want with lots of charisma and presence.
The group will undoubtedly go as Soyeon goes BUT I think Soyeon is a blazing star and will burn for a long time. Immensely talented at a very young age, I'm thoroughly impressed with her each time I hear a new song from them. It's super rare to be given the freedom that she has earned and for a company, especially one of a higher level like Cube, to basically say "OK, it's your show". I'm not terribly familiar with the rest of the group (I liked Miyeon in K/DA, I love Umji in variety stuff and her voice is great) so I need to dig more into them on VLive and variety shows and I'm not downing their contributions but it's hard not to talk about Soyeon's influence when you discuss the group's high level of success at so early in their careers.
@@el_kabong lately I've been thinking that Soyeon picked up these girls (except for Soojin obviously) by herself, I mean, Cube gave her absolute control over G-Idle and she did (and keep doing) what she thinks is the best for the group. Soyeon is ridiculously talented, you may think she's the best rapper or not, that's something else, but in terms of what she's doing, is mind blowing to see that she's the real and full leader of the group, she writes, composes and makes the choreography on every song, ffs she even gave the rest of the group their own opportunities to do what they want (like Blow Your Mind). If the group goes with Soyeon is because she gaves them that confidence to know that they'll succeed because of her, and her vision of how to do things. I really think Soyeon is a treasure not only to KPop (fun fact, I don't like it, I only like G-Idle) but to the whole music industry and even further. I’m glad that PD appreciated the hip hop influence in this song. I feel like this song and other modern K-Pop songs like it (EXID’s Lady) don’t get as much hype or appreciation, mostly because the composition and structure of the music isn’t very complex, the same beat/melody is maintained throughout, stuff like that. But regardless of your personal preference for or against old school hip-hop, you have to appreciate the respect and attention to detail given to hip-hop culture in this song and MV. It seems like the members and producers (both music and video) genuinely respect and embrace hip-hop culture and aren’t just making a “themed” or “inspired” song/MV. I imagine you can give a lot of credit to Soyeon for that. Songs like this are certainly risky to make for female groups, EXID certainly didn’t get a lot of love for Lady when it released (compared it to their comebacks before/after). I imagine this has a lot to do with what PD mentions in the video, that this genre and hip-hop culture in general doesn’t really fit the “feminine mold” that is expected of women in Korea. As PD says, it breaks gender boundaries and pushes well past the “girl crush” concept in terms of how “unflattering” some of the movements, clothing, and language might be seen as. Thank you so much for saying all this!! As soon as I heard the song I thought 'I've never seen a girl group go hip hop like this' and even a friend of mine who has been following kpop for over 10 years agreed. I'm so glad they did this concept, it truly suits them and it's by far the best girl group comeback I've ever seen. I can't wait to see where they go next.
The Thing with (G)i-dle is that it´s often really different to other k-pop, cause they are doing there own music all by them self. Self writing, self composing and own choreo. That´s why i feel like i get more into there songs, then other k-pop groups. And they are really good at what they are doing!
I think gidle concept is idle it self i mean idol can do many concept some of them do girl crush some of them do sexy some of them do cute but if you mix it all it become gidle the grup that can do all of idol concept
YES. That is exactly why I'm obsessed with this song - it makes my 90s inner child so happy lol. And that strings background in the pre-chorus aaaaagh so good.
Gidle has their attitude toward the music, which is the reason why I became a Neverland. These girls are just soooo talented. Their music has its own style and taste, that no one can copy from them.
This is based on my personal taste, but this is my second favorite (G)-IDLE comeback so far. Hands down, it's second only to Señorita. Edit: Scratch that. UH OH IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE (G)-IDLE SONG NOW
❤️ (G) I-DLE's concept here. Agreed, the late '90s, to early '2000s vibe is strong in this video, so they might be starting a new edgy trend for girl groups.
This is the best song of Gidle no doubt about it, it's not my cup of tea , but I really enjoy it, I hope they keep this level of music, agree very cypress hill background music
Shuhua( yes,u pronounced it right) is the one with the dyed bandana as her top..Miyeon is the one sitting on top of the truck..Minnie is the one with bangs...Hope u remember them now...
I loved everything you said in this video. I agreed. It captured everything perfectly ♡ Also in the part where you said it sounded hollowed out there's some drums in there (a knocking kind of sound) that I really like. Listen carefully and you'll hear it
Just give them a time they'll be bigger than other gg.We cant denied the fact that they go beyond the usual kpop concept/song/vibe.Im so proud of them! Stan them since debut and never regret! Thank you PD!
Shuhua is the one singing on a car alone, Minnie is the one singing the bridge, Miyeon is the one singing on a truck alone and Soojin is the one that starts the song with Soyeon
Kpop has always been like a "late 90s/early 2000s - 2.0" for me. It's not since a while back since it has actually become a trendsetter and drawn international producer talents and started to get traction internationally. Really like this track. This song feels like a tribute to the late 90s early 2000s when girl groups was the bomb in the west.
Soojin is the second girl after Soyeon, Miyeon is the one with white top and orange pants, Minnie is the one with the big white shirt with flames, and Shuhua is the one sitting on the car with the bandana tye dye shirt. They're all queens ❤️
You need to see Minnie cover Of "Gravity". You will have an eargasm. She used that voice like here in the bridge. Also a tip to differentiate them: Shuhua is really pale and always have long black hair (because she likes to be natural), Miyeon has power vocals, often sings choruses & was part of K/DA with Soyeon and has delicate features, Minnie is tall (here she has bangs) and has this interesting tone, Soojin is the sexy one with sultry look & sweet high voice, a literal dance machine, often in the center. Yuqi & Soyeon you already know.
I’ve realized after this comeback how much I’ve enjoyed these kind of girl groups. I know they’re not exactly similar, but mamamoo and g-(I)dle have been killing it for me lately (with a tentative everglow since they only have 2-3 songs). While I enjoy watching a lot of groups vids, (g)-idle (and mamamoo) have been producing music which I listen in my car every day. Great vid Pd
This is seriously my favorite idle title track and that’s saying something. The whole song is perfection from the beginning to end! They really stole my heart this comeback
what you said about breaking gender roles is really spot on. i can imagine bunch of boy groups doing this same song with the same kinda music video. this really is gender neutral and its so cool!
Minnie = bridge Miyeon = wearing a black beret Soojin = the girl that sings with soyeon in the second verse Shuhua = Sitting on the car second verse wearing the bandana like a shirt
I'm so happy that you mentioned Step Up bc that was the first thing I though about! 90's and middle 00's Hip Hop had such a big influence for this song that it's so hard to not say this is my favorite (G)I-DLE song, even if I like LION so much. I can't imagine what they will bring to us this cb but I'm ready to die again and wait for the new TKS chapter with that album
I mean, we're all pretty aware of it at this point and none of the girls in IDLE slack but Soyeon is such a star. If you wanted to say she's the best rapper of her generation I would not stop you.
I really think too that the fire on the mic is real fire. Do you remember how there was fire too on their Senorita MV, and Soyeon told she burnt some of her hair, and also on the BTS of the MV the FIRE IS REALLY REAL.
I'm surprised I haven't seen many people talk about the chicana aesthetics they used in the music video, very 1990s vibes (the make up, hair, clothes, jewlery, etc)
I played this video on the living room tv and tell me why my mom like MY MOM was saying soo many great things she said it took her back to like when everyone was into that style of clothing and the beat she said it reminded her of her youth when she was a “ chola” ahah
in addition to this song and video being AMAZING, can we also talk about how they're one of the very few groups doing a hip hop "concept" entirely without cultural appropriation? since especially boygroups mess up in that department over and over again, but unfortunately girlgroups haven't been much better recently either, blackpink being like the number one culprit lmao
♥ DIGIPEDI is making amazings mv's ♥ and yees i love the 90's hip hop influence, my only critic for the song is that soyeon didn't have enough rap lines! but this is a great comeback for them! 9/10 ♥
The song, the aesthetic, and the video are all like a love letter to 90's chicana and African American culture. Reminds me a little of Los Angeles tbh💖 Its brilliantly done and definitely a game changer!
minnie is the one on the bridge when she was standing up, soojin the one in denim, shuhua has the pink top (and yes, it's pronounced as you said) and miyeon the one that you said that reminded you of yuri
If you love hiphop and music You.will see and 90's to 20's music u definitely see this camera angle from low to high so much. On linkin park video specialy in the end. And most of limp bizkit videos... Wassup 90's baby out there 94 here

You simply do not just pause at Minnie's close up lip shot and not SCREAAAAM
m o o d
THE THUMBNAIL SCARED ME SJSJSKKS
AHAHAHHA
venus/misako 2 her eyes are larger than I thought👏😂😂
Soyeon (again) MADE this song. Produced and wrote by our queen 😊
I just noticed they even did the crip walk which became popular back in the 90s. Incredible attention to detail of that era.
i think their concept is to show the individuality of each member and show their oneness using that individuality
oh the girl who sang during the bridge was Minnie!
my favorite song from them. the concept is really good. 💕💕
The last part of the mv is really bruh. That flow is fire. I’m speechless. What a genius
Yes ( G)-IDLE's so different group!
2:52 is soojin the main dancer
3:02 is miyeon the main vocalist
3:56 is shuhua the maknae & vocalist
YES. That is exactly why I'm obsessed with this song - it makes my 90s inner child so happy lol. And that strings background in the pre-chorus aaaaagh so good.
They have the boldness of a self produce artist that knows who they are and what they want 👀
Gidle has their attitude toward the music, which is the reason why I became a Neverland. These girls are just soooo talented. Their music has its own style and taste, that no one can copy from them.
I’ve been waiting for this coz ur the only reaction I trust
Minnie bias wrecking us
And i don’t even stan G-Idle (yet)
Zwei 25 i’m telling you, they’re worth it. stan idle!
Zwei 25 you should definitely stan!💜
What's stopping you...they compose the songs themselves which makes it a very personal experience...plus theyre all bops what can i say
Miyeon is my bias but every girl was killing it
Same, she's the reason why I got into Idle tbh
PD: “Wow this is very different.”
Me: *”Lol welcome to (g)-idle”*
Their 90's feel brings me back to my childhood, such nostalgia!
I was looking forward to that reaction!
Only intellectuals stan (g)i-dle 🤘🏻👀
17:04 omg Yes “Step Up” thought I was the only one XD. first thing that literally came to my mind was a scene from step up. Lmao
tbh the first thing this song reminded of me of was 90s hiphop tracks which made me love this more
This is based on my personal taste, but this is my second favorite (G)-IDLE comeback so far. Hands down, it's second only to Señorita.
Edit: Scratch that. UH OH IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE (G)-IDLE SONG NOW
Well nothing beats Yuqi’s YOO HOO HOO HOO
@@formoftherapy Lmao thanks for replying to me
❤️ (G) I-DLE's concept here. Agreed, the late '90s, to early '2000s vibe is strong in this video, so they might be starting a new edgy trend for girl groups.
Ugh! Gidle is such a breath of fresh air. I haven’t seen a group this naturally swaggy/charismatic in a long time.
It's really not my style of music, but it's a fantastic song
This is the best song of Gidle no doubt about it, it's not my cup of tea , but I really enjoy it, I hope they keep this level of music, agree very cypress hill background music
Uh-oh is really my style. I really loved your reaction ..
Shuhua( yes,u pronounced it right) is the one with the dyed bandana as her top..Miyeon is the one sitting on top of the truck..Minnie is the one with bangs...Hope u remember them now...
As someone who wasn’t a fan of senorita I was so happy that I love this song and they finally aren’t doing concepts like the others
Nothing wrong with them but they were just the same thing and it got boring after the 3rd time this is just so fresh and new and *mwah*
Soyeon is the best female rapper in Kpop right now, and I'm not sure its close
Yass louder
And jessi hhe
@@seraficarenzaalvari5225 yes our racist icon queen🥰🥰😍
People who weren't G Idle fans before watching PD's video and are now converted to G Idle fans, thanks to PD's smooth therapeutic voice. Awesome job!
May i know what PD said?? Sorry, i still understand untill now 😭
I loved everything you said in this video. I agreed. It captured everything perfectly ♡
Also in the part where you said it sounded hollowed out there's some drums in there (a knocking kind of sound) that I really like. Listen carefully and you'll hear it
Just give them a time they'll be bigger than other gg.We cant denied the fact that they go beyond the usual kpop concept/song/vibe.Im so proud of them! Stan them since debut and never regret! Thank you PD!
What is PD said about??
I love this song it's my favorite G idle track everything about it. the styling, the song, EVERYTHING
I.....LOVE yuqis lower voice like!! They all sound so different and compliment each other like!!!! This is what im looking for in a gg
"I only have one word: breaking gender boundaries" PD, an intellectual, 2019
I'm proud to say that PD is my favorite person to keep up my English skills ~ Love and support from a French subscriber, you're the absolute best ~
What is PD said??
fyi, Digipedi directed the MV! that’s why it looks so good!!!
who?
Digipedi is swiftly reaching legendary status.
what you said about breaking gender roles is really spot on. i can imagine bunch of boy groups doing this same song with the same kinda music video. this really is gender neutral and its so cool!
Minnie = bridge
Miyeon = wearing a black beret
Soojin = the girl that sings with soyeon in the second verse
Shuhua = Sitting on the car second verse wearing the bandana like a shirt
I'm so happy that you mentioned Step Up bc that was the first thing I though about! 90's and middle 00's Hip Hop had such a big influence for this song that it's so hard to not say this is my favorite (G)I-DLE song, even if I like LION so much. I can't imagine what they will bring to us this cb but I'm ready to die again and wait for the new TKS chapter with that album
btw c walk it's a classic, I like all the hip hop ways to walk, thumbs up! xD
catching up on videos rn and holy SHIT. this has gotta be one of my favorite songs/mvs of the year!
Minnie is the one who came up on the bridge part
also thank you for this reaction, it was great, I learned a lot and love the girls even more hehe
i didn't expect this for summer comeback!
90's hip hop vibe well delivered with this music and MV
my fav 2019's song so far.
I really loved this song and video and just the vibe it’s so good!! They really experiment with sounds and their voices that it’s just amazing!
thank you for this, a great analysis as always
I mean, we're all pretty aware of it at this point and none of the girls in IDLE slack but Soyeon is such a star. If you wanted to say she's the best rapper of her generation I would not stop you.
Yass she is
I really think too that the fire on the mic is real fire. Do you remember how there was fire too on their Senorita MV, and Soyeon told she burnt some of her hair, and also on the BTS of the MV the FIRE IS REALLY REAL.
Soyeon does not simply burn with fire when SHE IS fire xd.
Recommendation for Patreon WJSN-Alligator
Stray kids-Fancy
Both was just performed on musicbank
WJSN WHAT
@@formoftherapy yep
@@formoftherapy I know how much you love when girl groups do that shit
I'm surprised I haven't seen many people talk about the chicana aesthetics they used in the music video, very 1990s vibes (the make up, hair, clothes, jewlery, etc)
I played this video on the living room tv and tell me why my mom like MY MOM was saying soo many great things she said it took her back to like when everyone was into that style of clothing and the beat she said it reminded her of her youth when she was a “ chola” ahah
in addition to this song and video being AMAZING, can we also talk about how they're one of the very few groups doing a hip hop "concept" entirely without cultural appropriation? since especially boygroups mess up in that department over and over again, but unfortunately girlgroups haven't been much better recently either, blackpink being like the number one culprit lmao
uh oh is a bop and that's it.
Soyeon is always doing dangerous things in their MVs I love her 😂😭❤️
♥ DIGIPEDI is making amazings mv's ♥
and yees i love the 90's hip hop influence, my only critic for the song is that soyeon didn't have enough rap lines! but this is a great comeback for them! 9/10 ♥
The song, the aesthetic, and the video are all like a love letter to 90's chicana and African American culture. Reminds me a little of Los Angeles tbh💖 Its brilliantly done and definitely a game changer!
that's why I always came here to check out pd's opinion, because he gives you more than just a reaction
I love the retro-hip hop vibe, and I'm way excited to see this stage live at KCON NY next week.
Whenever someone says “Her voice sounds amazing” in a (G)-Idle video you know it’s about Minnie
That low to high angle shot was also around earlier on in ~the early 80's in hip hop/rap M/V's to show off the skills of break-dancers.
You know PD approves so much when it’s a 20 min vid reaction! 🔥
As a Long Beach OG (HS grad '94) I instantly got nostalgic with this video!
minnie is the one on the bridge when she was standing up, soojin the one in denim, shuhua has the pink top (and yes, it's pronounced as you said) and miyeon the one that you said that reminded you of yuri
If you love hiphop and music You.will see and 90's to 20's music u definitely see this camera angle from low to high so much. On linkin park video specialy in the end. And most of limp bizkit videos...
Wassup 90's baby out there 94 here
