This is probably the most under-rated channel about the Philippines out there. So much information e.g. the lack of road rage or the position close to the equator being responsible for the 12 hours of sunshine, 12 hours of darkness. The info is undisputable but I never really thought about it.
First day of Summer in Cebu 12 hours 43 minutes of daylight, first day of winter 11 hours 31 minutes of daylight. Only one hour 15 minutes difference between the longest and shortest day of the year. Papa was fascinated by how much the days changed when he came to Phoenix.
When I lived in Los Angeles the police wanted motorcycles to drive like that on freeways, because they could travel between the cars or on the sides while the rest of us were trapped in non-moving cars.
I have experienced that in LA also Tony. I think 2 motorcyclists/day were killed. I met one American motorbike rider from California here and he said it was common for him to knock an auto side mirror off.
I escaped Cebu City Rod. It's good to be back in CamSur. I wish I had been able to bring back a few kilos if Chorizo De Cebu. It was my wife's first experience with it and she liked it also. Yes, too much traffic in Cebu. Our traffic can be just as thick, but nothing is as distant Here. We don't miss the Denney's that isn't really Denny's. We have SM, Robinson's and a couple more major malls and I could be sitting in any of them in 15 minutes. CamSur watersports complex is 30 minutes away. Decent beach 1:15 away. Fantastic beach 3 hours by car. The wife is chauffeuring me around, it's a benefit of buying her a nice car, she doesn't want anyone else to drive it. Take care Rod.
Thanks for sharing your ride there Rod, wow the heavy traffic has certainly returned after a couple of years of nearly deserted streets. Hopefully full normality is close to returning. I noticed some people are still wearing masks there. I’m in Thailand now, and the only people I see wearing masks are Thai people. Is it mainly the locals there also ?
The people have been "conditioned" Brian. I see some foreigners also wearing masks. There have been many studies for over 20 years and most show the masks do not stop the spread of virus. I was in a couple of malls this week and many more people but few were buying or carrying bags, so the economy is still in bad shape.
I have a rather large horn on my motorbike it sounds like a bus. I blast my disapproval of others driving. The people I blast the most are usually driving pick up trucks and are driving in my lane in opposing traffic.
Years ago they made buying an auto easy Douglas. 1 peso down and if you had a job, you qualified is what I have been told. Now parking is a problem as many do not have a place to park them except on the narrow streets.
I angered 2 separate drivers last week. One had a diplomat license plate, and one I turned left quckly in front of him and they both layed the horn on me for a long long time...hehehhehehehehehehhehehehehe. I'm turning into what you call in metro manila a kamote driver. DON"T BE LIKE ME ROD!!! heheheheheheh
Traffic has been picking up this holiday season Eddy. More people in the malls also but I don't see many carrying packages or buying much more than lunch so the economy still has a long way to get back to "normal".
As I was riding along with you I was thinking if I would have taken a grab car I would be way back in the traffic still waiting while you would be sipping on a cool one, and that ain't cool for me.. hehe.. I know I can get some nerve medicine in the Philippines so I guess I will just have to get me a bottle and take some and get a hobble hobble if I want to get somewhere during heavy traffic.. what part of the city are you living now? Did you leave from your apartment to get to this place? I really enjoy riding along with you.. it is all worth it after you get where you're going because there's nothing better in the world then good friends, good whiskey, good food and good loving.. see you soon I hope.. hello from south Louisiana where the temperature is in the 70s today and in the '60s tonight and I wish it would stay like that year around..👍👍👍😎🤗🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊😱🤠🍺🍻
LOL! It is my cheap thrill a couple times/week Richard. I live in the "uptown" area a few blocks from Fuente Osmena Circle. We have had 4+ days of cooler temps with a breeze so my windows have been open most of the days and very comfortable.
Since I just left Cebu and I'm in Thailand now watching your video. It sure brings out the contrasts. One thing for sure, traffic is traffic, where ever you go. Enjoy your holidays.
Yes, taxi drivers and others are always surprised when I tell them about the bad traffic in USA cities, even on 12 lane freeways. Too many cars and too little road Tom. Enjoy Thailand and Dallas and will catch up with you in March!
i think the most common LOSS OF LIFE if the Philippines must be MOTORBIKE! Be careful !!! i see the crazy moves these bikes make in traffic and it is very HIGH RISK transportation
Hi thanks for this video flying to manilla to meet my ldr of 9 months on the 12th December . Really appreciate all the advice you have given on this channel. Can I ask a question please ?I am arriving on the 12th December and departing the Philippines on the 24th December with a return ticket but want to stay for 90days. where can I extend my visa please? can I do it at the airport on arrival or do I need to book into an immigration office or bureau whilst there?how long does processing take and can I pay extra to get the extension faster please like say 5 days rather than 10? Any information would be greatly appreciated thanks Jim
You should ask for the immigration office at the airport before going through customs. You get a 30 day initially but they can add another 29 days giving you 59 days. Then you need to go to a PH immigration office or use an agency like JRC Visa Consultancy to extend another month or 2, or 6 month. They do not take credit cards so you need PH pesos.
Hey Rod, sorry I haven’t made it up there to see you yet. Building our house is taking a little longer as you can imagine. Hopefully finished in January. I’m not as techy as you but I found my DJI pocket does better at night than my GoPro. Hope you have a merry Christmas and I’ll see you soon.
Hi Rod, when we occasionally visited Cebu City on a monthly basis, we always tried to get out of town early before the 4pm rush because of the chaos that ensued with many city workers going home. If we were late leaving it would take almost twice as long to get home in our vehicle. Indays birthday on Bohol today Rod. 👍
If you think that’s crazy try London or Paris in the rush hour. Driving around Manila or Cebu is a doddle. Filipinos are actually good drivers, they are very aware and of course little road rage 👍
let me tell you, when i was in the philippines, the driving is 100% better than driving in AMERICA, they know how to drive, I cant wait to go back to Cebu City and Zamboanga City. CHEERS

Awesome, thanks Timothy!
Nice info, good view of the city.
Thanks Jobetz!
These motorcycles make it really nerve-racking for car drivers. If one of them hits you they want YOU to pay. Hope they pass the split laning laws.

LOL! I adapted to this day/night pattern without any problem John. Some miss the seasons and day/night changes but it works fine for me.

Thanks for the update Robert and enjoy CamSur. I hope to travel up through that area and Luzon later next year.
Rod you can manually set the white balance on your GoPro when you film at night to keep the colors more accurate.
I will try that Gary. Thanks.

I have a rather large horn on my motorbike it sounds like a bus. I blast my disapproval of others driving. The people I blast the most are usually driving pick up trucks and are driving in my lane in opposing traffic.
The vehicles are all new! The middle class is on the rise in the Philippines
i rarely saw any cars of the current year, previous years models.

You made good time. 😅 I recognize the route. Great way to get around.

Did I hear him say he was going to walk but was running late? He would have had to start walking yesterday.
LOL! It is about a 45 minute walk Arnold and sometimes moving faster than the traffic.

While in Robinsons mall in Manila, I've had a few walk up to me offering to massage me. Such friendly Filipinas here!

i disagree, any method of transportation is a risk of accidents.
@@lenseofanomad motorbikes are way more riskier than cars.

House building will always have its challenges Gene, so good luck with your project. DJI pocket does have some advantages.

Rush hour traffic seems to be starting earlier now Bob, maybe even by 3pm. Happy birthday to Inday!
Crazy driving there.
Yes, very crazy George.
crazy and safer than USA.

Would never drive there, way too scary.
LOL! I agree Rick.
They need to widen the road .
Too many cars and too little road Manuel.
I agree and I think some of the housing needs to be demolished in order for that to happen, if you look at it from a perspective view.
:)
