Love these strat vids. Quick note though: you can continue to take bottom row actions just for the coins. So, even if you have, say, built all your mechs, you can still do the deploy action just to get those monies.
I just lost my game and came here to learn more, the result is, yes I was basically doing what you were mentioning as "don't do". Amazing! Can't wait for the next game. Thanks for the video!
At 2:59 its my understanding that you can still do the bottom row actions for the coins but you wont get the build/enlist/upgrade/mech. Essentially meaning that the coins are hypothetically limitless.
True, but that doesn't seem very productive. unless you have access resources for that bottom action. but I don't see why you would focus gathering resources for a "mech" just for coins when that objective is over. You could be focusing the next objective and gathering coins still. I should've addressed that, you make a good point.
@@dr-ty-runs Great video, mate, but I do have to point out a major flaw probably due to the fact that you don't play Scythe competitively. Getting lots of coins at already done bottom row actions is a serious win condition in the end game, especially if you upgraded it before to make it cost you almost nothing.
I played my first game today. Focussed on upgrades in the beginning and getting a lot of workers, then mecs to move around and got my leader to pick up 3 discovery cards which were very helpful during the game. My last three turns got me 3 stars and I won the game with 96 points. I benefited from every upgrade wether movement, spamming popularity near the end in combo with building, raising power and cutting costs on everything before I start buying. Stars were (in order) : Mechs, battle, mission, (worker + upgrade in one turn), building the very next turn.
I get all workes a lot of the time. Easy star. And lots of units to claim land and the end of the game when u move. I also try to end the game with a battle(movement) so i can position these worker all over the map before the game ends.
That is actually true. Sometimes there's a benefit to getting the coins even if the other bottom board action isn't taken. We were reading the rulebook again last night and it's something the designer himself suggested as a possible strategy in the rulebook.
Also, keep in mind that different player counts call for different strategies. The more players, the more peaceful you might want to be. The less players, the more aggressive the player tends to win.
hi sry but i have seen something that was not quit right, first in your 5 rounds the lasst thing you do you dont have enough food to use this for enlist you only get 1 so there you was wrong, secound your thinking about not go to popurlarity, is not wast of time, becourse you get more end points out of it, for each thing you did area control and recourses have and stars you have, the one who has the most points in the end wins the game, even if the winner have 6 stars, you can lose if you have not the most points.
Yea good catch with my math there, sorry bout that :/, the main principle still applies in planning ahead. I agree popularity isn't always a waste of time. situational. Thanks for your input and tips!!
Like I said, I only play with my friends and I’m not a super competitive player i.e. I’ve never played online 😅 actually, I’ve never thought to, maybe I should!
Sorry but I completely disagree with most of the advice, specially about Polania. With Polania you are looking to go to as many encounters as possible and be able to move around the map quite fast compared to others. Polania agriculture you can easily get to the factory by 7th turn and much earlier if you are lucky with the encounter. Then you are looking for 4 to 5 easy stars. Mechs, Enlists, Power and two battles, depending on the factory card, you can go for the 8th workers if it gives production or upgrades star if it gives you upgrades.
Thanks for the tips, I played with some friends last night and then I realized by the end that I was a good 40 points behind everyone else at the table.
@@ichoosepineapples It all started when I hired too many workers at the beginning, so my production was costing me combat power and popularity. I was playing Saxony Agricultural and I didn’t secure any wood producing tiles early game, so I wasn’t able to build any of my structures. I also couldn’t enlist until like the last turn. I focused too much on building mechs, and I waited to bolster too late in the game. I effed it up in pretty much every way you can.
I would say scythe is part of my favorites. haha. I also love Hyperborea, Gloomhaven, and 7 wonders. Those are the first ones that come to mind right now!
I think what he meant in the video is that Scythe is good, but he doesn't consider himself to be one of the best players of all time (I think he said "it's good, not the best"; the "not the best" referring to himself, not the game).
I’d say eurostyle is definitely one of my favorite genres. But we play so many different types of games that I can’t say that’s what I’m mainly playing.

Is that true!?
@@christianwilliams4242 Definitely. It's a solid strategy especially in the endgame when you're behind on stars.
Confirmed this is true. We've actually applied this strategy in games after this video was made. Thank you for clarifying!!
I came to comments to conform this. I remember reading that in rule book
I just lost my game and came here to learn more, the result is, yes I was basically doing what you were mentioning as "don't do". Amazing! Can't wait for the next game. Thanks for the video!
With the whole sitting on the couch deal, it’s hard to not think he’s constantly hugging a throw pillow.
Bahahaha
How is there three food available at 2:09? There was just one produce action with one worker thereby just one food. The enlist action requires 3.
???
trade
I think that's why he corrected to *5 turns, what you state is correct and you need another turn to produce with the obtained mill
Both responses here could get you to that point

Good strategy notes. Thanks. I like this game and trying to get better.

Wouldn't you have been one food short of doing that enlist at about 2:00? The mill and one worker make 2 food right?

I’m confused! Where did you get the third food from at the beginning? Doesn’t one worker plus one mill = 2 food but you need 3?
The boards don't have limits. You can choose to build a mech even after your 4th mech is built. You still get the coins, but not a fifth mech
For real?

Some good tips whats your nickname on Scythe online?

What would be your suggestions?
I've some build order in my Chanel.

Thank you!
In games with lower numbers of players enlist really isn't all that strong.
Enlists only operate off of you and the two adjacent players too you. Meaning that it has the same strength in every game with 3 or more players.
