14:34 The small roti thing you asking for is, an offering most Hindu's do. Its an offering to Agni Dev (Fire God) & to Annapurna Devi (Hindu goddess of food and nourishment)! The first offering of the food would be made to Agni Dev! Agni (fire) has to be fed the first thing before serving food to anyone else.
The first tiny roti is always for the birds-a small tribute to nature and its deities. In my home, my mother would make it in the end, after the last toasted fluffed roti. The small roti would cook on the residual heat of the Tawa/girdle. If there was no leftover dough, my mother would make a fresh little batch to prepare this small roti. This offering had a specific name in my family dialect (Magahi- Hindi), though I can’t recall it now. She’d place it on the kitchen windowsill for the crows, though sometimes cats would claim it (it was often too big for the sparrows around our house). My mother would make this offering three times a day-after preparing breakfast paratha, rotis for lunch, and dinner. Every Hindu religious event has similar rituals, offering a portion to the Gods, nature, and other living beings. Today, we live in gated communities with sterile, sealed, air-conditioned, high-rise apartments. We use Insecticides to eliminate insects, depriving birds of their “daily worm,” and reflective window glass often confuses them, leading to fatal collisions. As a result, these once-meaningful rituals usually lose their deeper purpose. It would be meaningful if we revived this custom, perhaps by taking some food to feed stray cats, dogs, or other animals we connect with.
@14:01 My mother also make this small roti. It's just a thing most Hindus do. It's like a offering to god. It's a gesture of showing gratitude to the god for giving us food. They offer god before making it for self. After that my mother makes the first roti for the cow and some people even make the last one for the dog. Even in restaurants if there's a Hindu chef, he does the same. He makes a small roti first and then put it directly in the fire bcoz in hinduism we believe that in order for gods to receive ur offerings u must put it in the fire.
15:00 it's tradition that Cook your First roti for cow, last rosi for dog. But now days cow are not in every home so we cook small roti as follow tradition, but we don't eat .
Ara, so nice to see, that you are making a great effort to integrate into an Indian, Maharashtrian family, in all respects, cooking, festivities, clothing, customs etc. Congratulations & hope you would enjoy being ultimately a part of an Indian Family. All the best ❤❤
wow Araceli...you could do the stuffed puranpoli in first attempt and the sky-lantern too.......amazing skills and openness, lots of love and blessings :)
It's interesting to see a non Indian learning and adapting to Indian culture. I live in California, and there are alot Mexicans here. One of my co workers name is Araceli also. 😀 Nice vlog. ❤
Nice VLOG! 14:28 I'm sure you will get different interpretations for this! When making chapatis, people often roll out a small one first because it acts as a "test" to check the heat of the cooking surface (tawa) - if the small chapati cooks too quickly or burns, it indicates the pan is too hot and needs to be adjusted before rolling out the larger chapatis for eating.
Note : India 🇮🇳 is not for Beginners 🤓🤓 India is a very huge and diverse country in the world 🌏 28 state + 8 union territory = India (36) 🇮🇳 And many more indian island like Andaman Nikobar, Lakhyadeep etc..🙏🙏

If she made that Akashkandl from scratch then she is really talented. My mother used to do something similar called MACRAME, wonder if it's the same thing. P.s. in liturgical Latin Ara coeli means Altar of God. Is that the origin of your name?
Yes, this is Macrame 😁 This is my first trial and it came out to be really beautiful 🤩 That’s why I thought I can gift it to Rishi’s mom ❤️ Yes, that is where my name comes from 😉 Altar of God of Altar of Heaven

@@araceligonzaleza Happy to help. Also those offerings will be given to some animal like, cow or a bird, so as to not waste anything.
