      Thank you. :-) I sure hope so. It looks like I'm driving out to Austin in May for a wedding, so I should be able to film footage in Tucson, El Paso and Austin...and maybe Dallas/Ft. Worth, Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, plus areas in between all of the cities I mentioned above.

      @@r4ls3i60 Not that I can think of. I think there's something kind of resembling a braided ramps system proposed for the duplexed CA 57/CA 60 interchanges out in Diamond Bar, as it has a relatively high accident rate due to all the merging and high traffic volume issues through there.

    the braided ramps are very interesting indeed, but are they gonna do more ramps like that or what?

    • @FreewayBrent
      @FreewayBrent  9 років тому

      Probably not. That's a first-of-its-kind project for Caltrans, implemented primarily because of the high traffic volumes in that area (about 170,000 vehicles per day), and the fact that 2 separate freeways intersect with CA 180 in only a 1 1/4 mile span. It makes for a very fun driving experience!

    CA just can't seem to get it's act together regarding exit numbers on the BSG's. It's almost a "flavor of the mile" kind of thing.
    Fresno has a more extensive freeway system than here,(Baton Rouge) which is the capitol of Louisiana and has a metro population of approximately 700K.

    I'm surprised to see the new, wider/rectangular design for exit numbering along SR-41. I always thought CalTrans favored the square signage for exit numbering. Is this a new thing for CalTrans, or is this exclusive to the Fresno area?

    • @FreewayBrent
      @FreewayBrent  9 років тому

      EpikFilmz11 :: That came across to me as a surprise too, the first time I saw the rectangular exit signs about a year ago along Highway 99. So far, Caltrans District 6 is "embracing" the rectangular exit signs, as they're popping up everywhere along their freeways. I've also seen them recently installed on Highway 101, where the former 4 lane expressway between Salinas to San Juan Bautista was recently improved to a quasi-freeway corridor.

    • @blumenkopf

    CalTrans and the federal government should try to find a way to extend Interstate 70 from Utah out and over to Fresno, which could make Interstate 70 Fresno's first Interstate. A good connector line for I-70 should be the Sierra Freeway (CA-168).

    • @FreewayBrent
      @FreewayBrent  9 років тому

      +Vinny Lazar (Vinny28): That would be a very nice extension of the Interstate Highway System, but I don't think it would receive much traffic, and there's a lot of other transportation needs that could use funding.
      CA 168 would have been awesome, if it had been completed to connect to its eastern stub.

    • @gosnooky
      @gosnooky 3 роки тому

      The Sierras are very steep and rugged, as opposed to the Rockies and would be extremely costly and difficult to build an interstate across them, not to mention the environmental impacts.

  • @zzomtceo
    @zzomtceo 9 років тому +2

    seems like a pretty extensive system for that population

    • @FreewayBrent
      @FreewayBrent  9 років тому

      It is definitely extensive. Really, the only "gap" in the system is the lack of a east-west freeway in the northern parts of the city. Herndon Avenue currently serves as the de facto high-speed route in that part of town, but it has a number of traffic lights. I truly love those braided ramps Caltrans added along CA 180, between CA 41 and CA 168. The freeway portions of CA 180 will be extended both east and west by a few dozen miles in the coming years ahead.
