    Periodic trends (such as electronegativity, electron affinity, atomic and ionic radii, and ionization energy) can be understood in terms of Coulomb's law, which is Fₑ = (q₁q₂)/r². For example, consider first ionization energy: Coulomb's law tells us that the greater the nuclear charge (q₁) and the shorter the distance between the nucleus and the outermost electron (r), the stronger the attraction between the nucleus and the electron.     So I understand the idea of an electron cloud with just a probability of an electron being at a specific point. However, I’m having a hard time reconciling that with the idea of very discreet energy levels for electrons... different materials can only absorb and emit very specific energies of light corresponding to their electron orbitals. Does this mean the electrons are in a rigid energy state and they maintain a precise energy level based upon the proximity of other electrons and the protons/neutrons in the nucleus?

      Yes, within the framework of quantum mechanics, electrons in an atom are indeed in discrete, quantised energy states. BUT these energy states are not "rigid" in the classical sense, as "rigid" in the classical sense implies a fixed, unchanging position or state that can be precisely defined and measured. However, in quantum mechanics, the concept of rigidity doesn't apply in the same way.
      Concepts such as the distribution probability of an electron, the uncertainty principle, and quantum superposition do not align well with classical predictions.

    I am not a scientist and I do not have any technical education, but I was wondering why not to focus more on recharging on the go when we are talking about fast moving electric vehicules?
    For example: airplanes.
    Put batteries there, make it electric. Add aditional two turbines. 4 together: two creating thrust and others creating energy.
    Same with cars: add some kind of charging rotor, at the front. Maybe more than one?
    To at least replenish some of the used juice.
    Just my private idea : D

      the additional turbine would create drag and weigh the plane down, not to mention it would not create enough energy to compensate for the other turbines due to entropy. you could compare that idea to how humans sweat more when they are active, cooling themselves off the more they move. it isn't a perpetual motion engine or anything, but if we made more efficient wind turbines it would be an interesting concept. with this being said, there is no way in hell anyone will put that idea to practice. the costs are too high, and the benefits are too low to make it a worthwhile investment.
