I remember my dad talking about McCain. He was the only politician about whom my dad ever care to voice his opinion. I was told the stories of his service, his capture, torture and release. I knew he was a hero before I was old enough to really understand what it meant to be a hero. He will be greatly missed.

The incredible thing about John McCain was, despite the torture he went through as a POW, he never let it define him. He was so humble. He didn’t go on and on about it nor try to use it as a tool to garner sympathy or to get ahead politically. A true hero.

Yesterday John McCain, an American patriot, after dedicating his life to carrying the flag for this country, posted that flag in the ground, sat leaning against it, and took his last rest.

Unlike most, this man served and suffered for the USA. He made his mistakes and was quick to admit them. He disagreed without being disagreeable. He stood up for his country and the men and women in uniform that serve it. He defended the honor of those he competed against instead of using race, class or creed to divide the simple minded. He was quick to congratulate others when he lost and even quicker to reach across the aisle. He achieve what most sorry folk would never be able to without whipping up enmity, bringing up sentiments or catering to the crazies. He was a REAL SUCCESS, teaching us all how to rise and keep moving after a fall. The party he left behind, the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower is now largely made up of those who jeer at athletes for kneeling but insult military heroes who did not dodge the draft but gave so much, some even their lives in the fight for freedom. Luckily for McCain, the present political situation in the US makes it even easier for us to see how much of a giant he was for maintaining the high standards of the American right- dignity, integrity, courage, honor and service. To see how low his party has sunk is to see how high McCain's legacy will continue to soar. May he rest in peace and may his family find solace quickly.

Veterans' groups have concluded that McCain has voted at least 28 times against veterans' benefits since arriving in the Senate in 1987. Those votes tried or succeeding in to blocking important benefits for America’s veterans.
In 1991, after the close of the Persian Gulf War, John McCain voted against providing automatic annual cost-of-living adjustments for certain veterans’ benefits. Four years later, McCain supported an appropriations bill that underfunded the Departments of Veterans Affairs and other federal agencies by $8.9 billion. The following year, McCain voted against an amendment to increase spending on veterans programs by $13 billion.
Between 1999 and 2001, McCain stood against appropriations bills that provided regular annual increases in funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs. And in 2003, after the US had been at war in Afghanistan for more than a year, McCain stood up again to providing additional funding for the VA. This was his maverick move.
In 2005, when it became clear that US troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan were suffering unprecedented cases of PTSD, McCain voted against an amendment to appropriate $500 million annually from 2006-2010 for counseling, mental health and rehabilitation services for veterans diagnosed with mental illness, PTSD or substance abuse.
The following year, McCain opposed providing an assured funding stream for veterans’ health care that would increase at the same pace as inflation and the growth of the veterans' population. One month after that definitive vote, McCain voted against providing an additional $430 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
A strong supporter of privatization and outsourcing in general, McCain opposed a 2007 amendment that would have prevented the Department of Veterans Affairs from outsourcing jobs, many held by blue-collar veterans at VA facilities. McCain took this position even after congressional investigations linked scandalous treatment at Walter Reed Army Hospital to privatization of some of the hospitals services.
This year, John McCain opposed the 21st Century GI Bill, and failed to vote on the final passage of the measure in favor of attending a Republican Party fundraiser in California. Since its passage, despite Mccain's opposition, the new GI Bill has begun to provide better educational opportunities to veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, paying full tuition at in-state schools and living expenses for those who have served at least three years in the service since the 9/11 attacks. McCain said he opposed the bill because, as he told one FOX News program, he thought the benefits were too generous.

    An audio recording has surfaced
proving that U.S. Senator John McCain collaborated with the North
Vietnamese by recording a “Tokyo Rose”-style propaganda message
that was broadcast on North Vietnamese radio in 1969. For many years,
American former P.O.W.s who were in the “Hanoi Hilton” North
Vietnamese prison with John McCain called him a “Songbird” who
collaborated with the enemy against his own country. Stewart Rhodes
joins Gary Franchi to discuss the implications, This is a fact -
fact check / do your research. He is not a hero, he was one of the
worst Deep State Socialist Liberals, connected to Terrorist group
supporters, in the Middle East. This guy is right up there with
Hillary and Obama, who should retire to past history too.

providing that the present orange has unofficially made it a directive THAT PEOPLE OF COLOR IS A CRIME TO LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. the orange collaborates with "we will not be replaced by jews" a slogan that was adapted in Virginia at a rally that both parties were good people . as a result of all this a young girl was killed. while both parties were being good people on both sides. this guy orange collaborated with the enemy well before the election and continues. this guy is up there with Hitler and Mussolini and pretends to run THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. McCain was interviewed in prison camp by Fernando Barral, a Spanish psychiatrist. Barral’s evaluation of McCain is quoted by Amy Silverman, author of many excellent pieces on McCain in the Phoenix-based New Timesweekly. Here’s how Barral described “the personality of the prisoner who is responsible for many criminal bombings of the people.” Barral goes on, “He (McCain) showed himself to be intellectually alert during the interview. From a morale point of view he is not in traumatic shock. He was able to be sarcastic, and even humorous, indicative of psychic equilibrium. From the moral and ideological point of view he showed us he is an insensitive individual without human depth, who does not show the slightest concern, who does not appear to have thought about the criminal acts he committed against a population from the absolute impunity of his airplane, and that nevertheless those people saved his life, fed him, and looked after his health and he is now healthy and strong. I believe that he has bombed densely populated places for sport. I noted that he was hardened, that he spoke of banal things as if he were at a cocktail party.”

I didn't always agree with McCain, but I could always tell that he had some good values and beliefs that I could get behind. However, listening to these republicans talk about him, after spending the last two years not defending him, or standing up for him against trump makes their words hollow and intolerable. It is even more sad that McCain was one of the last decent rupblicans that cared about country over party and was interested in working / reaching across the aisle. It always seems the "good" ones go early and the devisive, corrupt, spineless ones live on to wreak havoc much longer than they should be able to.
