Habba Khatoon was born in the village of Chandrahar. Her real name was Zoon, which means moon. She is also known as Zooni.
Though she was born in a village, she was not raised as a peasant but learnt to read and write. She learn Arabic and Persian from the moulvi or religious teacher in her village.
When she was quite young her marriage was arranged by her father to an illiterate peasant boy. There was no understanding in this marriage and Zooni was unhappy therefore it did not last long but ended in divorce. Even then Zooni used to compose and sing songs.

Kasur nav gase theek pathe wanun. First of all who are we Kashmiris? We are pure Central Asian Aryans who converted to our beloved religion Semitic-Islam from different Kashmiri Hindu castes. Kashmir had a distinct caste system. Thus the Pandits of Kashmir and we Muslims are precisely the same people ethnically. Who are the Darads? They are the Aryan cousins of Kashmiris and both the Darads and Kashmiris are the offshoots of the same proto-Aryan people. Yusuf Shah Chak was a Darad (from close to present Gurez region) whose ancestor had recently converted to Islam from Hindus and the Chaks were mostly Shias. Yusuf still had relatives with Hindu names such as Shankar Chak, Pandu Chak, etc. These Darads were physically extremely powerful and great fighters. Yusuf Shah led a small Kashmiri army and defeated the huge army of Emperor Akbar more than once. Akbar entered Kashmir by deceit but as Abu-Fazl also mentions the Mughals never had peace in Kashmir. Zoon was an ethnic Kashmiri of the Kshatriya (Rajput) background and was a Rather (Rathore in other regions of the Indian subcontinent). This is the real history. The name is pronounced as Zoon (Moon) and not a Zone which you are doing. Kashmiri and Shina are Aryan (Indo-European) languages very closely related. Both have picked up a few Semitic words due to the arrival of Semitic Islam in the Valley.
