There's a theory I heard once That belos made hunter to look like his brother Because the statues in the city that we saw in yesterday's lie looked very much like belos and hunter And we know the town was founded in the 1600s , there's also a very likely chance that belos is either Philip or a descendant of Philip or something , the statue of the other guy looks like hunter and possibly could be Philip's brother . So maybe that's why belos is so nice and caring towards hunter. There's also another theory that he keeps being nice to him because he's gonna sacrifice him on the day of unity. I honestly don't know which is true but I love them both Both theories I got from Not-So-Average-Fangirl btw-

I have a theory that the change of style is related to Hunter's perception of the world. When the style becomes more "childish" his emotions break through. It was the same with Non stop - Luz drawn in a simpler style was signed as "Friend?", then when changing the style it was certainly "Enemy". With Lilith looking at him with concern there was "Worry?" And then "Traitor." With Kiki it was "Loyal?", as if he thought all she was doing was obeying Belos, when it was really just "Envy". In this video, the most visible change of style to that specific style is at the end, and it looks a bit like being drawn by a beginner.
I actually prefer this interpretation of Belos. An utterly broken man, traumatized by the loss of his family and friends due to a freak accident caused by "wild magic". He wishes to return home, and bring magic with him to the human realm, all while banning unpredictable magic so that no one else suffers as he did.
To be fair, we don't even know what the canon Belos is like deep down. I mean, he's clearly too far gone, but we don't have a lot of context around him or his relationship to Philip Whitabane and his brother.
After s2 ep.12 this theory is almost certainly wrong... except if : [Spolier season 2](Read the bottom of the comment*) ( * ) philip actually cared about his brother and then the death of Philip's brother actually sent Philip on the descent into psychopathy
When I first watched this (after Hollow Mind), at first I thought of it as showing disproven theories, but actually I think it still mostly holds, as long as you watch it with a different viewpoint in mind. Philip sees himself as "good," ridding humanity of "evil," so while the song/animatic still paints him as being the one who suffered and lost and is trying to save people, well, Philip truly believes that. Just not in the way we would have liked. Excellent animatic!!! There's just so much in here and it fits so well, great job!!

This is a grave of your own digging and your suffering is well deserved.
I kind of feel bead for him but at the same time i want to run him over with a FREAKING BUS. He had a brother that went to the demon realm with him but fell in love with a witch. To Philip, that was backstabbing. How could he go back on his word to kill the witches? Instead of talking about it, HE STABBED HIM. AND CARVED HIS EARS. AND ATE A PALISMAN.

Watching this after King's Tide REALLY hits different. Mild spoilers (for the s2 finale): ESPECIALLY WITH THE "Hunter, why are you hurting me? I only wanted to help you" Belos is still an awful person and his actions still inexcusable, but rewatching this does give me some empathy for him. He was absolutely lying and manipulating hunter, but because he wanted a brother. He wanted to have a brother that would agree with him. He genuinely believes that what he's doing is good.
Just like your Kikimora animatic, this hits so much harder after Hollow Mind (I’m not spoiling anything I promise) but with the additional information about Belos, the scene of Hunter hugging him so warmly did make me tear up. 1000/10 you’re an amazing artist

Your animatics get me so hyped up for when TOH returns, so thank you so much for that! Is the static when the style changes a representation of Belos' new view of himself? If he really is Philip and lost his brother and everyone he loved in his journey to Eclipse Lake, that obviously had some effect on him. When the static occurs, is it showing how all the loss he suffered in losing his brother and the horror of his curse (I'm not sure if it is a curse, I think it's a side effect of eating the magic inside palisman) is warping his view of reality? Anyway, I love love LOVE your animatics and how you leave your style changes up for us to interpret. I am so excited to see what you'll do next and I hope you keep at it, because you are really talented!

You know, I enjoy Belos as a villain, he's got a great intimidating presence and style, with some complexity, but I would kill for a version of the show where Belos is nearly as guilt-ridden, regretful, and caring toward Hunter as this animatic shows. Like Canon Belos always came off as deeply uncaring, self-centered, and doggedly "ends justify the means" with no remorse rather than having the added nuance of instead being the reluctant champion of Humanity (in his eyes) who does what he does (witch hunt) not because he derives pleasure from the act, but because he views the Boiling Isles as the greatest threat to Humanity. A "heavy is the head that wears the crown" situation if you will.

If we're keeping the Puritans bit, then I can see Philip doubling down on his previous believes after something happens, instead of being like that from the start.
The echo mouse being the one who tells the story is a really nice touch. I love the flashbacks to the past selves, and every single thing about this animatic is great. TOH with Hamilton music ? Yees please The colored shots at the end are really beautiful too! It's a shame that we now know that Belos has always been a psychopath
it's actually so chilling when you think of it from hunter's perspective. he literally grew up being told this kind of stuff - e.g. "i know that we can win / i know that greatness lies in you / but remember from here on in / history has its eyes on you" - and this animatic so PERFECTLY captured how well of a manipulator belos is. there's a double meaning to everything he says - e.g. "i led my men straight into a massacre" - that's EXACTLY how manipulation works. somone says something, and then twists it around to gain sympathy from the other person to make themselves look innocent. the only reason we KNOW belos is lying in this animatic is because he was established as a villain to us from the start. but imagine HUNTER, who grew up with belos as his only parental figure, and his identity was just completely rooted in belos belos belos. he would have had NO idea of belos' evilness whatsoever because everything that was said to him sounded so innocent, like this song. and now i just realised hunter is a lot more traumatised than i thought. in short, this video is *chef's kiss*
I’m probably reading into this too much, but I can see how Belos descends from Philip taking notes in a strange new world, to developing a philosophy about order (likely because of something at eclipse lake), and finally to someone who is obsessed with the remnants of his past, thinking about Lil’ Rascal (who I think was his brother’s palisman) and the door all to see his brother again, or at least gain some closure on the matter. The cracks between the two of them to me symbolize one wanting to stay on the boiling isles and the other trying to go home, and losing their friendship over that. IDK, might be ramblings of a madman and such.
It’s just like, damn, I’ve just rewatched this video for the 12th time and I’m still noticing new details. You are a master! Eda finding the door, the Grimwalker page, even the amount of connection you give between Philip and his brother, who’s never even been onscreen, is astounding. The cracks even symbolize Luz’s decision she’s likely going to have to make, stay in the Isles or go home... This hit me in the feels more and more, and I can’t thank you enough for this and your other stuff. The fandom is better for having you in it!

So I figured that Belos was being manipulative, and so if he was going to sign this, it would also be him manipulating the truth to Hunter. And sadly, I was correct.

AHHHH, HOW YOU DRAW PHILLIP IS BEAUTIFUL, I'M IN LOVE I do not know if I am wrong, but the color red and blue are present in the video, I believe that the blue represents the current Belos, his evil and purposes, while the red his past, his relationship with his brother and he's palisman . Also Kikimora's eyes have a small blue glow (She is faithful to Belos), while Lilith's Palisman is red, she ended up being a "traitor", another thing related to this, is that behind Hunter, there are many spots blue, but there red in his eyes, with an inscription, is it a reference to the fact that Hunter shows fear for Belos and hides a Palisman from him?
With all the flashbacks, and glitches, really everything with this animatic, I was literally about to cry THIS IS SO WELL DRAWN I ENVY YOU YOU’RE SO TALENTED
absolutely flawless. I loved all the flashbacks and the implications of it all. it's really well done and the art is beautiful. amazing storytelling. I'm an animation student and this is definitely a great example of why I love animation and what I hope to be able accomplish some day.

Seeing this really makes me wonder what the merging of the realms will do. Will it cure Belos’ curse, bring back his family, revive the Titan (who manipulates a broken and corrupted Belos), or create a power that makes one a god (for someone like Kiki to take)?
okay, hear me out, i always imagined that belo wants to combine the worlds so he can have an easier time trying to rule (no boiling rains, other crazy weather, etc etc.) all while using the titan somehow with a form of necromancy to keep humanity in line since he could probably use magic to safeguard the titans body, or just maybe he thinks the humans have a form of magic themselves that’s stronger that would aid him and maybe just maybe i’m thinking dumb here but what if imagination is a form of magic, like strong natural magic on par with titans blood, so he plans to merge the two and use that to aid him to continue his rule or prolong his curse from getting to him. that way it affects our protagonist luz and gives her yet another reason to help everybody on earth knowing just how many creative people are out there, or maybe earth just has more titans blood somehow so he’s trying to gain it to just keep on going, again maybe i’m dumb but i dunno, i feel like anything is a possible reason now, which in a way makes it more interesting and more exciting to watch but also makes the hiatus a bummer and a half. either way i’m personally more nervous for what his plans for hunter might be, because the small stuff we’ve seen doesn’t seem the best for our guy in need of serious therapy already tbh.

Oh I WISH this is who Belos was or should I say ‘Phillup’
it's actually so chilling when you think of it from hunter's perspective. he literally grew up being told this kind of stuff - e.g. "i know that we can win / i know that greatness lies in you / but remember from here on in / history has its eyes on you" - and this animatic so PERFECTLY captured how well of a manipulator belos is. there's a double meaning to everything he says - e.g. "i led my men straight into a massacre" - that's EXACTLY how manipulation works. somone says something, and then twists it around to gain sympathy from the other person to make themselves look innocent. the only reason we KNOW belos is lying in this animatic is because he was established as a villain to us from the start. but imagine HUNTER, who grew up with belos as his only parental figure, and his identity was just completely rooted in belos belos belos. he would have had NO idea of belos' evilness whatsoever because everything that was said to him sounded so innocent, like this song. and now i just realised hunter is a lot more traumatised than i thought.
in short, this video is *chef's kiss*

I’m probably reading into this too much, but I can see how Belos descends from Philip taking notes in a strange new world, to developing a philosophy about order (likely because of something at eclipse lake), and finally to someone who is obsessed with the remnants of his past, thinking about Lil’ Rascal (who I think was his brother’s palisman) and the door all to see his brother again, or at least gain some closure on the matter. The cracks between the two of them to me symbolize one wanting to stay on the boiling isles and the other trying to go home, and losing their friendship over that. IDK, might be ramblings of a madman and such.

It’s just like, damn, I’ve just rewatched this video for the 12th time and I’m still noticing new details. You are a master! Eda finding the door, the Grimwalker page, even the amount of connection you give between Philip and his brother, who’s never even been onscreen, is astounding. The cracks even symbolize Luz’s decision she’s likely going to have to make, stay in the Isles or go home... This hit me in the feels more and more, and I can’t thank you enough for this and your other stuff. The fandom is better for having you in it!

I do not know if I am wrong, but the color red and blue are present in the video, I believe that the blue represents the current Belos, his evil and purposes, while the red his past, his relationship with his brother and he's palisman . Also Kikimora's eyes have a small blue glow (She is faithful to Belos), while Lilith's Palisman is red, she ended up being a "traitor", another thing related to this, is that behind Hunter, there are many spots blue, but there red in his eyes, with an inscription, is it a reference to the fact that Hunter shows fear for Belos and hides a Palisman from him?

absolutely flawless. I loved all the flashbacks and the implications of it all. it's really well done and the art is beautiful. amazing storytelling. I'm an animation student and this is definitely a great example of why I love animation and what I hope to be able accomplish some day.

Seeing this really makes me wonder what the merging of the realms will do. Will it cure Belos’ curse, bring back his family, revive the Titan (who manipulates a broken and corrupted Belos), or create a power that makes one a god (for someone like Kiki to take)?
okay, hear me out, i always imagined that belo wants to combine the worlds so he can have an easier time trying to rule (no boiling rains, other crazy weather, etc etc.) all while using the titan somehow with a form of necromancy to keep humanity in line since he could probably use magic to safeguard the titans body, or just maybe he thinks the humans have a form of magic themselves that’s stronger that would aid him and maybe just maybe i’m thinking dumb here but what if imagination is a form of magic, like strong natural magic on par with titans blood, so he plans to merge the two and use that to aid him to continue his rule or prolong his curse from getting to him. that way it affects our protagonist luz and gives her yet another reason to help everybody on earth knowing just how many creative people are out there, or maybe earth just has more titans blood somehow so he’s trying to gain it to just keep on going, again maybe i’m dumb but i dunno, i feel like anything is a possible reason now, which in a way makes it more interesting and more exciting to watch but also makes the hiatus a bummer and a half.
either way i’m personally more nervous for what his plans for hunter might be, because the small stuff we’ve seen doesn’t seem the best for our guy in need of serious therapy already tbh.

So first thing I see in this is Belos being the first human, and I do think that that could be a major possibility, but he has pointy ears. It could be fake, but the mouse with the information also said that that was in the 1800’s I believe, so I think that both Belos and Hunter are descendants of that human
