Even though I never made it past 40mph it is still to this day one of the most visceral driving experiences I’ve ever had!! A friend's father had a Countach and he had a special pair of thin driving shoes for it. The only good feature of the THICCC and high door sill was that they were prefect seats for backing up. The doors opening up/forward allowed you to put your butt on the door sill and sit up high/crooked to operate the pedals and wheel. That actually gave really good visibility while backing up.

My Countach posters were never replaced, but my big 25th anniversary posterboard seemed to disappear during a move after I got married.
And I also lost some photos I took of a Countach I saw at a local car show which was on display when I was 10 or so in around 91. Crazy that the two photos I took of the white 25th were possibly the first photos I ever took in my life, and it was stupid of me to have left my photo album that contained them at my Dad's place which he rented out and ditched my stuff which was stored in the shed.
But the Countach memory which will be with me forever was the day that my Mum pulled up at lights on the Highway next to a white Countach and I was able to see it on the road and see it launch and speed off whilst my Mum's escort got left in the dust only for her to risk a speeding fine by speeding to catch up to it so my brother and I could look at it for as long as possible 😂
And it was this memory which saw me buy my brother the Lego Countach as a gift, because if I had the money I would buy him a real one, as how else is one to show love than to give the love they want to be given?

I was astonished, saying to my wife that I couldn’t believe that there was a Countach behind me. At a stop sign, absolutely sprinting out of the restaurant, giant camera on a tripod in tow, was a photographer screaming, “STOP, I want to photograph your car.” I started to accelerate and he jumps into the road… in front of the Beetle. He snapped several pictures and just as quickly then walked away into the restaurant again. I wanted to highlight to him- “you do realize there’s a Countach right behind me!” He didn’t care. Evidently one of 23 million can be more remarkable than one in two thousand!😊

I had a chance to drive one of these many years ago, back in the early 2000s. I recently retired after working 27 years for a vintage/classic car shop. It was a large business, and did everything from oil changes to complete restorations. Mostly vintage American cars. I only worked on mechanical stuff, no bodywork or interior stuff. The owner of the business bought one of these. I believe it was a late '70s model. It was carbureted. Very much like that one on the inside. I got to drive it on highway 87, from Mesa, AZ up to Payson, AZ, 60+ miles of constant curves and mountain grades. Surprisingly it just wasn't that much fun. The visibility was so bad that you couldn't tell exactly where you were in the lane. I notice you didn't show a forward view while driving. It's a very wide car, and the windshield is almost horizontal. You can't see the lane lines close to the car. Overall it reminded me of a kit car. Nothing fit properly inside or outside. The trunk lid and engine cover flexed badly. It had a lot of squeaks and rattles. I did love the engine sound, but I love the sound of a late '60s/early '70s American muscle car better, especially Mopars. I definitely would not consider trading my 1969 Dodge Charger 440/4 speed for one, no matter how much it's worth.

He invited me out to see his Countach, exactly like this one, and related to me a story of him dating a woman, and driving up near Beverly Hills, when he pulled up by a Bugatti. He said he was just staring at it in awe, and eventually tho other driver noticed and was staring back at him. He said he forgot he was in his Lamborghini being awestruck at the time, and the other driver was doing the same. They both were pointing and laughing. He felt foolish later, but always remembered that day. He had an awesome barbershop, pretty much just like the original movie with the cast of characters he had there. I miss going there. OMG that Yellow. I hope to see the window sticker on the options. The 88’ is often seen as best of the breed! That would be sooo cool:) 🇮🇹

I'm surprised eh didn't mention the Alpine stereo. The Countach was featured in the Alpine ads, and was the way I found out about the car. The two were always linked in my mind.

This is my grail car. Nothing compares to how cool it is. I remember having a poster of it when I was a kid and even though it's a nightmare to drive I'd love to have one!

Agree, to me , the Countach is THE Iconic supercar, we all drooled over the posters of it in the 70s - rarely see reviews on the original low body orange ones without the wide arches from 74-76-ish , or even them mentioned, you`d be surprised at how many younger people think it`s a "80s car" , it`s not , it`s a 70s car which was so timeless in styling that it didn`t look dated by the 80s and IMO still doesn`t now .
I`m amazed Doug fit in it Tyler Hoovie whO i thought was a bit shorter than Doug) has to drive it with his head on his shoulder

As always awesome job Doug. I drove one of these in the early 90’s and even though it was only a few miles, I noticed something the driving position felt like I was sitting in an angle towards the center tunnel also had to drive with my shoes off. The pedal box is absolutely tiny.
