    ❤BIBLE VERSES OF THE DAY❤
    MATTHEW 22: 37-40
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

I think this film is dated, the dialog is corny and chessy,a product of it's time.I prefer a more modern Superman film and a new take on the Superman/Clark Kent duality. Sorta what Nolan did with Batman, make a-GREAT-trilogy,but,this will never happen with old Supes's fans stuck on an old film from the late 70s.

No one is “stuck” on this film, we ‘older’ fans appreciate the way it was made, how committed Chris Reeve was to making both CK and Kal - El believable, as a lot of the more modern takes on Superman are too dark. These films gave us a chance to really see Superman outside of the comics, as the George Reeves’ Superman did in the 1950s Adventures of Superman tv series.
Older fans understand times change and can enjoy the newer movies, but for some of us, Chris Reeve is *the* definitive Superman.

    FUN FACT:
In the scene where Clark races the train. The little girl who sees him is Lois Lane. Her parents are played by Kirk Alyn, the first man to play Superman on the big screen in the 1940's, and Noel Neill, the first woman to play Lois Lane on the big screen. Ms Neill also played Lois on The Adventures of Superman tv show in the 1950's. She wore one of her outfits and did her hair and makeup like she did on the show. She also had a cameo at the beginning of Superman Returns.

Instead of wearing a padded suit like they wanted him to, he took a very intensive workout regimen and was trained by David Prowse, a bodybuilder famous for physically playing none other than Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. Reeve said Prowse put him through hell, but it worked out perfectly.

The blockbuster movies of the late 70’s and early 80’s were made for everyone. They didn’t target a specific audience like the summer blockbuster movies today. They weren’t worried about people picking them apart on the internet, so the Director made the movie they wanted to make.
As you mentioned, these were all practical effects in this era of movies. Because they couldn’t rely on CGI to wow people like modern movies, it forced them to focus on the story and characters more. I think that’s why movies like Superman, Star Wars, The Terminator, Back to the Future still hold up today because those characters are memorable and connected with the audience.

      @gokhanersan8561 15 днів тому +2

    •  9 днів тому +1

Exactly. The trend to specialize the films or to exploit specific markets started in the '90s, before that the movie industry was more concerned on capturing the maximum variety of audience.

And, at the time, we only owned 2 VHS cassettes (cheapskate parent) and one of those tapes was reserved for what my sister wanted, so I had one 3 hour VHS tape. Hence, when Superman II came on the telly, I had to tape over Superman. Now before you ask why I didn't record in LP or SLP, I don't remember the recorder having that function. Until we got some 4 hour tapes, our VHS cassettes only ever held one film on each.

In 1978, I saw this in the theater. I was 6 years old, and Christopher Reeve became one of my heroes. Not just Superman, but the man. He was the perfect Superman. And with what happened to Chris later with his accident and paralysis, and what he did with that for the rest of his life...he was a super man. After watching the other Reeve Superman movies, I recommend watching the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
Watch Superman II, but there are two versions: the theatrical cut and the Donner Cut. I prefer the Donner Cut. There is a long sad story why there are 2 cuts, but both are worthwhile.
Superman III is fun, but it is more like a Richard Pryor comedy that Superman is a part of than the opposite.
Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is a mess. Don't bother. If you had problems with the Zack Snyder Superman movies, this is worse. It was a noble disaster. Reeve conceived the storyline close to his heart, but the execution was a disastrous mess.
But...I also suggest Superman Returns, directed by Bryan Singer and starring Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Singer loved the Reeve movies and made a true direct sequel to Superman II. It has the tone of the Reeve movies but came out at the wrong time. It is one to see for any Superman fan.

Christopher & Dana Reeve's kid has a documentary called Super/Man about their father, Chris' battle with paralysis after falling from the horse. Chris was a doting father even being paralyzed from neck down during his kids growing up. Chris' Dana learned on her own of assisting her husband's care. So, from her experiences with Chris, they created Christopher & Dana Foundation on researching on paralysis and spinal cord injuries. Their kids are on Board of Directors of the Foundation. Their youngest kid, Will Reeve is his father's lookalike twin.
I think that Henry Cavill comes close second as the iconic Superman as Chris is the original. I am on the fence of newest actor portraying Superman, David Corenswet.
Chris Reeve did a few cameos in TV series especially Smallville with Tom Welling as Clark/Superman. Chris acted in a scene with Tom: original Superman and TV Superman.

Christopher Reeve was a just a tank of a man. I've always thought Superman looks better with a natural bulky brawn than gym-made muscles. I know he did lift for the film, but it looks more natural.

    • @cheesehands3112
      @cheesehands3112 17 днів тому +6

Natural strength vs steroids, basically. Which makes sense, since Superman's physique and costume design was based off early turn-of-the-century strongmen(/wrestlers), pre-steroid-use. The "steroid-look" didn't really show up till the early-60's (I think), so Superman escaped being depicted as such from the beginning, and thankfully MOST comic-book artists try to honor Superman by maintaining his "traditional-look". (There have been slip-ups, like "mullet-Superman"; but artists like Alex Ross famously resist pressure from the people-in-charge to change his appearance.)

It also makes more sense within the story, given how Clark has grown up on a farm, doing farm work all his life. I know this logic falls apart when you factor in his sun given super strength, but the all natural body still represents his country boy image the best.

I don’t care how old this movie is Christoper Reeve really was Superman. Not just as an actor but as a person & he’s still the only person to actually make the Clark Kent / Superman disguise work he acts like 2 different people in body language & his voice he changes his voice to be more meek when he’s Clark. That documentary that came out is tear city 🎉ugh I’m glad Superman’s getting more love now days too with the Superman & Lois show, the new animated one & a new hopeful movie !

The definitive version of Superman. Always impressed with the way Christopher Reeve speaks in a higher pitch and hunches his shoulders when playing Clark Kent. Those little touches go a long way towards making it believable that no one recognises him as Superman. (It's not JUST the glasses, people!)
Just learned the other day, from another reaction channel, that there's an extended version of this film. Hadn't heard of it before, but there were so many little extra touches just in that reaction, that I'm now planning to get hold of a copy if I can. I mean... there have to be even more extended scenes than can be included in a reaction video, and I'm on a mission to see them all!

Also great cast with Billy Campbell, Alan Arkin, Jennifer Connelly, Timothy Dalton, Terry O’Quinn, and Paul Sorvino. Also, one of Disney’s first attempts into the superhero genre. Also directed by Joe Johnston who would later direct Captain America The First Avenger for Marvel.

I love this movie! Thank you for this reaction! I remember when this came out, I was a kid and this was my introduction to comic book superheroes. I had all sorts of Superman toys, comics, books, bed sheets. I remember that what worked for me and my friends was that, not knowing who Christopher Reeves was, we believed that he was Superman flying across the screen! He could do anything! And what made Lex Luthor work was that he was a mad, evil genius, but that was offset by the comedic scenes where he's picking on Otis. Such a pleasure to see you enjoy it, too. By the way, to get deeper into how Clark was raised by the wholesome values of the Kent family, I would while heartedly recommend the show Smallville!

Bronze Age Superman comics (largely the digest versions sold at grocery stores back in the day), early Post-Crisis Superman comics (and Crisis itself once I got all the issues), Kenner Super Powers action figures, Superfriends on Saturday mornings, reruns of the 40s Fleischer Superman cartoons and 60s Filmation DC cartoons on TV and rented VHS tapes...and the Reeve Superman movies. These are what made Superman my favourite superhero for as long as I can remember.
Superman, Star Wars, the beginning of Star Trek in movies...the cinema of the late 70s was good to geeks.

23:10 This scene was a neat trick to pull of in the 70s before CGI even existed. Superman flies away, then Lois gradually walks back into her apartment, then there's a knock on the door, then Clark walks in, all in one take. Would you like to know how they did that?

Great reaction! I grew up in the 60's and 70's reading the comics. This is still the definitive Superman film. Reeve's performance is perfect. He totaly got Clark and Superman right. The first part laying out the mythos of his origin is spot on. Many of the practical effects still hold up. A lot of the flying was done by Reeve in a harness which is why it looks real as it is. Saw it 4 times in 1978 in the theater when I was 20. This film will always be a favorite. Superman II is good, but more of an action movie.

Somewhere in Time is worth reacting to in my opinion. Christopher Reeves popularity was blowing up because of his Superman success and was being offered action roles left and right
But he didn't want to be an action star. He didn't want to be typecast. He wanted something different
Somewhere in Time is a romance movie that didn't have a large budget or much buzz surrounding its production but it had charm. It stars Christopher Reeve and the beautiful Jane Seymour

23:30 most people never notice it. But this transition scene between Superman and Clark is one of the most amazing film tricks in the world.
Superman flies off and it pans to Lois. It follows Lois all the way into her apartment where Clark knocks on the door. The whole thing is one consistent shot. No cutaways. No trick camera editing. Above all Christopher Reeve does not have a twin brother. This was accomplished through rear screen projection of Superman flying off. But this was very hard to accomplish because most of the time projector images look faded and don't match up with the rest of the film. It took months to get the look of the film perfect so that the camera could not tell the difference between Superman and Lois Lane.
