I had a hard time paying attention to what was being done because I was looking around the shop for future projects you might be doing haha. You should have never said you leave stuff out on yesterday's live stream! now to watch it again..
Lander Beckers - I would like to see this as well! I live in quite a small apartment but have a few bikes so a small, movable work stand for bikes would be nice to see! 👍🏻
I would be so interested in a bike stand as well! Currently I just use some old climbing ropes to suspend my bike from the garage rafters. It works but... It's really not ideal.
Great work. I always like the way you summarize your work at the end and use your experience to give us tips for how we could do a similar project or improve on your design. Thanks so much for all your work.
WOW, those look cool Bob! Nice job! This was fun to watch and see what you did differently. Gluing the larger boards together before cutting the frames out is a great idea. Hinges are definitely a challenge with these. Thank you so much for the mention!!!
Those are slick, Bob! Makes me want to make a walnut pair. And as others have said, I'm really digging the humor you are starting to mix into the vids. Good to see more of that personality!
They turned out better than I thought they would! Also it's amazing you have this much patience to keep sanding and go threw trial and error, nice job!
Another awesome video Bob! Its things like this that get the maker juices flowing… Also, I was just discussing scroll saws with a friend and it was making me want to upgrade my "hobby" scroll saw to a larger version that can take a bunch of different blades. So awesome timing on that too!
I'd love to see you tackle this again. They just look so natural, I wonder how you'd manage nose support without ruining the look of it all being from one piece
I am a kid wood worker and I use a scroll saw. I am so inspired by your vids and would love if you made more vids with the scroll saw. It would also be nice if you could make more kid friendly projects.
This is one of the first projects I am going to make once I complete my new mobile workstation! My dog decided that my pair favorite pair of sunglasses was a better chew toy than the things I buy him. After seeing this video I decided to save them to use as a template for this!
Cathal Brady no it's because he sayed 26 views 39 likes and the joke was about you not seeing them and needed glasses to see them and the video was about glasses.no hate
Very cool Bob! As far as the tiny drill bit goes, you could use a pin vise. Lee Valley has a nice one for around 20 bucks and they come with a bunch of VERY tiny drill bits. I have one and you'd be surprised how often you use it if you have one.
Hey Bob, one thing you could do to strengthen those hinges is to soak them in ca glue. Of course, before spraying the laquer. The only problem is it might cause those spots to be a different color. I'm not sure how different the laquer and ca would look.
Really enjoying your videos and your approach to your builds. Without going through all the comments, I was wondering if you had thought of using steam before putting the glasses in the form? I had seen a different project that the person ending up boiling the veneers before putting it in the form, I think it was a guitar build. Maybe on the next pair you could see if it's worth it.
Love the video Bob, awesome project! Can I suggest you link David's prescription glasses video also, totally different design and approach but might be interesting for others to watch too.
Very cool! Is there any reason in particular you wouldn't use a CNC laser or router when cutting out the lens holes? Seems like it would work really well for that purpose.
such amazing works bob, especially with that tiny screws, im wondering can you give us how to make a wooden watch, thats would be a lot of tiny stuff too right?. thankyou.
That came out looking really cool! I'm probably not the first to mention it, but I think the "lack" of curve was due to that you just cut the 2x4 in half. You "need" to remove material thick as what you plan to press together or the curve will be less than you expect.
The clamping scene had me laughing pretty hard. I started to teach myself woodworking and the sunglasses project intrigued me. I know I need to buy more clamps even without your hilarious clamp comedy. Oc= Putting the Dremel in a vice and using it as a spindle sander was a trick I've been looking for. I'm Extremely limited on space so I have to come up with as many tricks as possible for the lack of equipment. I don't have a vice like that, but I was thinking I could make a special one part or two part enclosure or stand for the Dremel to accomplish the same thing. You are an amazing craftsman.
You started something here. When you made the wooden glasses for HTME I thought nah this is going to work.. Well I swallow my words - it looks freaking awesome. Good going!
Great video Bob. Very inspirational. I have a Carvy (Inventables) and was thinking of this as a project. Until Easel (software) can do complex 2.5D carving I'll be stuck with cutting and using a form like you did. (Unless I upgrade to V-Carve I suppose.) Thanks again.
A trick I've used is doing all your cutting on a flat piece of plywood using the cnc then you can use a pressure cooker and a small vacuum bag to bend them into place after. It makes rounding the edges and shaping the frames much easier.
I would love to see you work on something with Tested and Adam Savage. Love watching your content, Bob. The video production quality, the editing, the storytelling, and of course the making of things; I learn so much from your content. :)
Hi my name is hannah and I'm fifteen I've been watching your videos for a while now and I've always been interested in building things. In the past I have made a picnic table for my little sister. My loft bed. With a desk. And the platform for my king size bed now. I've made a few others but those are the one I'm really proud of. Watching your channel has really inspired me to get out in the shop and build what I want. I'm re doing my room and I want to make a bookshelf for all my things. But instead of the normal type shelves they are going to be geometrical and placed in random spots. I would really like your input on other things I could do to make it look better thanks for inspiring me.
Great work as always! If you're going to do them a second time, you can maybe try to make the part where it sits on the nose a little softer/rounder/bigger. It looks to me like that is missing compared to the plastic ones and it would only add to comfort.
hey bob, if you do make another pair, would you consider trying to make those bumps that help it fit better on your nose? also, have you ever considered making a watch out of wood?
They could be even stronger than plastic glasses if you experiment with some hard woods or bamboo. Cedar or some nut tree woods - very sturdy! Good clamping!
"Clamp Champ" gave me a good chuckle
Ditto this...clamps on clamps on clamps on clamps!
lol me tooxD
TommoByrne indeed!
It was really great to see some humor in a video of his.
TommoByrne p
I'm never bothered by your sponsorships because you don't interrupt your own video. It's very clever and curdious
Two things:
- I now want to make my own pair of wood sun glasses.
- Can I borrow some clamps?
NO! These are MY clamps and I need them all!!!!! ;) You definitely should laser some glasses out! It'd be cool to see your take on it!
i luv you will
I Like To Make Stuff can you make a drum set
how to make bob mute notifications from this thread lol
William Osman q
Super cool build, Bob! That red veneer would have looked SWEET on the front. Also, that clamp champ bit, hahaha. Great work man.
Another project that I am going to make great project Bob👍👍👍
Excellent! Have fun with it!
I Like To Make Stuff if you try this again, maybe try come dark stain wood with copper wire inlay. Would be nice
I Like To Make Stuff thank you so much keep up the great work
I dont do any wood working i just enjoy watching your channel. I have friends that do what you do and it fascinates me. thanks!
Wow Bob those sunglasses came out fantastic. Great video!
Great video!
Great video!
Great video!

I love that you not only explain what to do but mistakes you made and what to avoid.
I had a hard time paying attention to what was being done because I was looking around the shop for future projects you might be doing haha. You should have never said you leave stuff out on yesterday's live stream! now to watch it again..
Hahaha! Just watch them a 2nd time to look for that stuff :)
Cool glasses! This might be a good one for the Glowforge. Once you've got the files you can quickly make replacement parts.
Are you going to do any more lathe projects?
At some point. I plan projects based on the final piece usually, not the tools used. I just use whatever makes sense to achieve the project at hand.
I Like To Make Stuff You could do a lightsaber hilt mostly on the lathe, seems like your type of project.
Shillier yea he did already make the shore trooper helmet and blaster so why not a lightsaber
J Bush am I the only one who knows you meant storm but wanted you to mean shore? Lol, I did 😂
Clamps are my most needed tool in the shop! You can never have enough!
True!!
can you make a bike work stand
Lander Beckers - I would like to see this as well! I live in quite a small apartment but have a few bikes so a small, movable work stand for bikes would be nice to see! 👍🏻
Anders Vestlund yes me too I want to make one as well
I would be so interested in a bike stand as well! Currently I just use some old climbing ropes to suspend my bike from the garage rafters. It works but... It's really not ideal.
That was the best Clamping job I've seen on UA-cam ever.
What happened to the wooden car with the wooden wheels and the wooden engine?

Classic dad joke. Which is weird cuz my dad made that joke once, so again. Classic dad joke
Jeez now hes gona try it.
Great work. I always like the way you summarize your work at the end and use your experience to give us tips for how we could do a similar project or improve on your design. Thanks so much for all your work.
Thanks Dan!
Bob: hey I’m bob and I like to make stuff
Me: hey I’m Alex and I like to watch stuff
I really like that you go over the misstakes you make during the video!
Thanks Christoffer! I hope they help other people who are thinking of making stuff!
The glasses are looking great Clamp Champ :D Keep up the good work :)
Cheers
Moris
Scroll saws are awesome. My grandpa made some really neat carvings, and the scrollsaw was his only powertool in the shop.
Anyone else say "hi Bob" after Bob says his intro? Or is it just me
That's pretty awesome!
I do mentally sometimes. He's like a friend that uploads every Thursday and I wait all week to see what he makes next.
+RSpudieD I know exactly how you feel about this. Bob is pretty much the best thing happening to me at Thursdays
o3iquitous same! He's a cool guy with great ideas
RSpudieD Absolutely. Still waiting for him to get into blacksmithing. And damn, once he does I'll be REALLY excited to see where he's taking it.
Even though I'm awful at DIY, I love watching your videos. They are fascinating to watch ☺️
question: I'm having trouble with relationships what can I...
answer: clamps
WOW, those look cool Bob! Nice job! This was fun to watch and see what you did differently. Gluing the larger boards together before cutting the frames out is a great idea. Hinges are definitely a challenge with these. Thank you so much for the mention!!!
Absolutely! Thanks for your video and the inspiration!!
Cool Video Bob! I gotta try my hand at it! Thanks for Sharing Brother! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
Thanks Gus!
Those are slick, Bob! Makes me want to make a walnut pair. And as others have said, I'm really digging the humor you are starting to mix into the vids. Good to see more of that personality!
Can you make a garden chair because I need to do one for technology
The most elaborate "deal with it" of all time. Loved the build.
Hey I'm Saterry and i like your projects!
early squad too :D
Thanks!!
They turned out better than I thought they would! Also it's amazing you have this much patience to keep sanding and go threw trial and error, nice job!
Could you make a pencil out of a news paper?
Whooooooooooo.... that'd be hard, but I'd try it!
Nice that you mentioned others who influenced/inspired your own design.
CLAMP CHAMP 🗜🏆
By far the best homemade wooden sunglasses I've seen on UA-cam, great job!
they Look lit bro
Google They'll look more lit when fire touches 'em ;)
IDontHaveSubscibers would be a shame
4:47 is me trying to keep my life together
This is so awesome. Definitely solved the problem I had with the hinges. Thanks for listing the machines you used to get his done
I bet bob wouldnt answer me on this comment 😁....and i don't wanna forget to say that i love your Videos 💗
Wanna bet? ;)
yeah :D....whats the time where you live? I`m from germany?
Cool build! Definitely hope to see you wearing these in future vids.
-Caleb Harris
that really cool
Bob you illistrated perfectly how wood workers use clamps!
"I added some clamps" 4:43
As an optician, this is satisfying to watch.
"I made my own sunglasses. Deal with it. "
"I made my own dog toy for my dog. Deal with it."
@@HelloKitty-sd9vs I made my own dog. Deal with it.
Another awesome video Bob! Its things like this that get the maker juices flowing… Also, I was just discussing scroll saws with a friend and it was making me want to upgrade my "hobby" scroll saw to a larger version that can take a bunch of different blades. So awesome timing on that too!
Hey
Hey
I'd love to see you tackle this again. They just look so natural, I wonder how you'd manage nose support without ruining the look of it all being from one piece
Make your own sunglass! All thats required is two pairs of sunglasses and a 3rd set of extra lenses. lol
Well, if you were replacing a pair, you could use the screw and lenses from it, as well as trace the shape from it. :)
I am a kid wood worker and I use a scroll saw. I am so inspired by your vids and would love if you made more vids with the scroll saw. It would also be nice if you could make more kid friendly projects.
Totally could have gotten 15 more clamps on there! ;-P
Yeah, you're right. Probably should have gone a little bit overboard just to be safe. ;)
Bob, I found you because of your podcast with Jimmy Diresta. Love all of your stuff too! I love y’alls podcast and all three of your channels!
Thanks so much!

Such a great product. It's a item that seems so hard to do but bob made it easy.
Also you are the clamp Champ everyday, I think your the build champ too, and also the cutting champ, scrap wood champ, etc.
these are cool. wood and leather are my favourite materials and like seeing stuff like glasses phone cases and general day use items. great video.
Hey Bob, one thing you could do to strengthen those hinges is to soak them in ca glue. Of course, before spraying the laquer. The only problem is it might cause those spots to be a different color. I'm not sure how different the laquer and ca would look.
Very daring to try the hinge mechanism. David Paciuto just left them solid. Awesome job bob
I love sunglasses and those are the coolest pair I seen, if I had them I'd wear them all the time.
This is such an awesome project. I've been wanting to make wooden sunglasses for awhile now. Thanks for the awesome video.
Pretty epic result Bob, nice job !
Awesome sunglasses I do like this laminated look. I might have to make another one and do it like this. Great job
I really appreciate that you answer that much comments!
You always seem to put your ads in the right places!

nice work Bob, this has been on my list for a while now!

Thanks! Yeah, this was a fun set of problems to solve!

Another great video. I got excited when I saw the notification. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Shore Trooper build.
Thanks!!
That worked out really well i think. That was awesome to watch.

Awesome! I love Brazil! I visited one time and I hope to go back, it was awesome.
I'm glad to hear that!
You'll be very welcome 😀
You started something here. When you made the wooden glasses for HTME I thought nah this is going to work.. Well I swallow my words - it looks freaking awesome. Good going!
I think you're thinking of David Picciuto. He's the one that made the glasses for HTME, but thanks!!
That's right, but I prefer yours though good design and i like the plywood construction.
Congratulations, your work is spectacular.
The fact that you linked a bunch of other people's videos made me insta sub.
Hey Bob, awesome work, keep it up! Greetings from Brazil!!
A trick I've used is doing all your cutting on a flat piece of plywood using the cnc then you can use a pressure cooker and a small vacuum bag to bend them into place after. It makes rounding the edges and shaping the frames much easier.
Hi Bob, just wanted to ask, could you use flexi-ply with a blue styrofoam jig to achieve the curve of the frames?
Those are cool! I like all of the experimentation. Good job explaining it all!
Love this video I'm going to Georgia in a few weeks and I am TOTALLY making a pair of these for the trip, your work is awesome keep it up!!!
Excellent!

Very nice, I'd definitely watch a second video where you improved on your design!
Those looked great! Did you think about 3D printing them? I bet you could dial those pieces in pretty good.
Great work as always! If you're going to do them a second time, you can maybe try to make the part where it sits on the nose a little softer/rounder/bigger. It looks to me like that is missing compared to the plastic ones and it would only add to comfort.
Nice! McMaster-Carr has a tiny brass hinge that could be epoxyed instead of the cut hinge, if you wanted.
That's really cool. I wonder if soaking the wood in water before laminating it would help it curve better…? Just a thought.
hey bob,
if you do make another pair, would you consider trying to make those bumps that help it fit better on your nose? also, have you ever considered making a watch out of wood?
i have tons of broken skateboards around and I've wanted to make glasses from them for a while, thanks for this vid :)
They could be even stronger than plastic glasses if you experiment with some hard woods or bamboo. Cedar or some nut tree woods - very sturdy! Good clamping!
LOVED THEM! Great project Bob! Greeting from Costa Rica
Surprisingly these are pretty cool! Great job making them!!
