2004 Honda Ruckus PCV Positive Crancase Ventilation Modifcation and installation

- This video describes how to help eliminate the inherent main bearing failure problem found in 2003 to 2005 Honda Ruckus', by adding the upgraded Honda timing chain tensioner (with crankcase vent), creating better Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) for your older Scoot.
Thanks for the video, been having problems with too much vapor in the oil. Hoping this corrects the problem :)
It seemed to help a lot! I still change the oil frequently👍🏻
Fuck yes! Thanks bro. I bought an 04 with that same ugly camo. Gonna paint to match my white honda prelude. Picked mine up for $550. 2400 miles. Guy said it wouldnt start. He must not have known you gotta hold the brake to start it. 😝
Hi, with the modified valve being open all the time and not regulated by a ECU did you have any starting issues in winter or colder weather? Thank you!
No problems at all it ran great 👍🏻
Thanks man! Two more questions, when you mentioned to reuse the gasket, is the gasket found underneath the stock cam tensioner plate or is it located on top? Also, did you have to remove any other engine parts to reach/ unscrew the stock plate? Thanks!
@@s.m.j632 it’s been so long since I made that video and I don’t have the bike anymore. So I wouldn’t be able to tell you that. Sorry my friend🇺🇸
You're basically wanting the unburned gas vapor to escape the crank case on a normal PCV system it is routed back into the intake to be re-burn this is for smog reasons but as long as the gases are escaping the crankcase into the atmosphere you should be OK so you want that to be blowing out of the crankcase. I use the fuel filter just as an air filter to keep dirt from being sucked back into the crankcase. I hope this helps thanks for watching.
I just did this mod and noticed a much faster and cleaner idle, plus a noticeable increase in low end power. Thanks so much!
I’m glad it worked out for you it seemed to help mine as well👍🏻
Hi. Gonna drop this mod in this weekend. To preserve a mint ‘03. I’d appreciate any responses discussing outcomes or additional learnings.
I sold this bike quite a few years ago but the mod worked well👍🏻
I have an 03. I was wondering how much this helped, and if it still works to this day. Also if you've had to change your crankshaft bearing???
DaBlow7 HTX Ruckus I sold the scoot with bout 3,000 miles on it and it was running good.
@@ManCaveMayhem awesome. I'm doing this to my 03. I've had her since she was brand new. Still less than 500 miles on original get motor. Plan to keep her running for my kids. Thanks for the video
Thanks for putting this video up! I'm going to do the same to my '03 and it's been helpful.
Bryan I’m glad it helped 👍🏻
Question. PCV airflow direction is out of the valve cover, right?
Did this help the issue? It seems like it would. Also, do you think this improves MPH?
That bike is super clean.
Too bad I got rid of it! I regret it.
Thank you for the video! I've got the same GET engine and I've bought a PCV but I've no idea where to put it. With your video I've understood where it has to be placed but I'm not sure what's the right direction of the PCV! Also you've put a gas filter at the end....and that's it?! Thank you! ^_^ waiting hearing from you!
SHINOS I just commented publicly on your question.
What pcv valve you using?
Manny P. SMI not sure I just adapted one from auto zone it’s not really even required for it as long as you are venting the crankcase. I hope this helps👍🏻
Ok! Im about to do this to my ruckus so I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the reply!
Were did you purchase
THIS VIDEO HELPED ME ALOT! thanks!! I know the OEM PCV on 06+ can open to allow fresh air into the crank case. I wonder if we are better off removing the PCV valve and just putting a filter at the end of the line.
James Turner Yes the more I think about it you probably are. That addition of the updated OEM part which allows more air is the most critical part of the mod. I’m glad I could help and ride safe😎👍🏻
@@ManCaveMayhem So right after I posted this I learned you are doing it the best way. PCV that blows outwards, I put a UNI breather at the end. If the engine needs fresh air it can suck that from the breather at the top of the head. I have a airbox delete so that breather at top of head is open.
@@TheJimmysGarage yes but doesn't a PCV valve only give one way flow Direction? If it's allowing gases to escape it'll open but if it's trying to draw air it will shut. Wouldn't you be better off removing that and just running the Breather
@@Yourdrinkinbuddie24 I have a pcv valve on the cam chain tensioner vent. I do not have a valve on the vent at the top of the head so it can pull air there.
I didn't notice and mph change. But it did help to get the fuel gases out of the crankcase👍
Did you set the timing before removing the chain tensioner?
@@muttsnuts5849 That was about 5 year ago and I don’t recall. I’m pretty sure I didn’t mess with the timing.
Hello ManCave Mayhem, I have a 2005 Honda Metro with the GET2 motor. Can't really find any info on Metropolitan forums. Is this mod applicable to Metro's also? Thanks
I'm not sure about that. but I would start by looking at a newer Metro and see if the PCV set-up has changed. If so you may be able to order the newer updated part.
Thanks for the reply, mine is Metro '05, in '06 they have a two tube system apparently to vent crankcase, I think your mod will work.
Did you do the mod using that part
thanks for making this!
I'm curious, since this video is a few years old, are there better options for this now?
derek peters I’m glad the video helped. I’m not really sure about other options. I just know that’s what Honda did To the later model engines.
@@ManCaveMayhem I'm not really mechanically inclined, seems like the Ruck shop is doing the same basic thing but going through the oil dipstick hole?
derek peters yeah I’m sure that would work for you just trying to get that crank case breathing a little better.
@@ManCaveMayhem I just chatted with the guys at Ruck shop, they said this part isnt necessary. Not sure what to do now. :)
