I'm from India (bengal) and here in my city (kolkata) we fly kits during biswakarma puja.it's been our tradition for many generations and we really love it.I started flying kites since i was 6.Back then we used to make manja and prepare our threads for flying. We flew kites since 3 months prior to that puja.It feels good to see that you people have brought that culture in USA.a big salute to you for this.🖒🖒🙂
I'm from Indonesia, and as a kid I used to play kites a lot. But I just can't retaliate whenever someone attacks my kite. All I do is to just pull the string blindly and hope it cuts my opponent's string by luck. I usually decorate my kite with "tails" as a sign of a Non-fighter kite. But people still attacks mine regardless... Whenever my kite was under attack, I gave the string to my dad and he sure showed my opponent that even a non-fighter kite can in fact fight when it is threatened. Ah good old times...
It's a matter of positioning. Let the wind carry your kite's fighting lead across your opponent's unprotected string, then release. The friction slashes it and you win.
Wow! That looks like a blast! I see no reason why this shouldn't be great for anybody to get into.Sure, by all means preserve your traditions,(Loss of people's histories and traditions leave us all the poorer),and get everyone and anyone interested in this sport. Who knows what new tech (or techniques) could benefit the entire sport! Now let me see... I'm on it!!! Hmm. Kite spurs? (Like on fighting birds). Uh Oh! Rick's got a new weekend obsession - Kite Fighting!
How the hell is the times promoting this? These strings are a huge hazard to birds and other animals! So many people just leave the strings behind as litter! Then animals grt tangled in and die! This needs to be banned. Horrible sport & video!
As a kid 2007 before I was born the kites were flying in the park I have and they used to fall and they still do

Most of these appear to be Tukkal kites. Never had or flown one but seen pictures of them in books. Didn't know that they were fighter kites too.
