If that injury to Bryan Danielson wasn't kayfabe, then I am sorry for the way the match ended. Per Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez, it was completely a work, which I thought it was because they put the camera on Bryan (or AEW is a bunch of savages)! In storyline, Will Opreay retiring the Storm Driver 91 and being afraid to use it again sets up an interesting character arc. On the replay, you see Bryan land (what looks like) safely on his back.

Is it really a work when he outright lies about it? This is going beyond pretending something is real, they advertise these press conferences as real shoots and so if he goes on about being sad to injure someone you assume he’s telling the truth. I guess AEW is just sports entertainment after all but they said they were real pro wrestling with sports based presentation. But seems like even the shoot promos are phoney.

Yeah ... The Osprey match against Cassidy broke me in to Osprey as I don't watch NJPW and just watched highlights of prior matches. It was a really impressive match and made me a fan of Osprey, and even made me respect Cassidy, although I still think he over does the whole comedy schtick

Two big takeaways from this:
1. I admit I got worked hook, line and sinker by this Danielson injury. I was convinced it was legit until I saw AEW posted Ospreay helping a hobbled Danielson back into the lockerroom then I knew it was a work. Or at the very least the severity of his injury wasn't that serious that Danielson allowed it to be turned into an angle. What sold it for me as legit was this melancholy Ospreay at the press scrum. Dude completely came off as a little boy who's dog just died & it was great. For everyone who saying he doesn't have the talent to pull off a major story & he's simply a "spot monkey", can go sit down. He's the real deal & hopefully AEW doesn't screw up this Danielson injury angle & they build the rematch all the way to All In at Wembley in August.
2. Admitting he got caught up in the Tribalism War of Words & saying he's no longer doing it because it's simply not good for not only AEW but the business as a whole was incredibly mature on his part. Personally I didn't have a problem with him responding to the "Afraid of the Grind" blast by Triple H on Pat McAfee but the tired old dig about HHH only being where he is because he's doing Vince's daughter was corny. From now on he said he's letting his in ring speak for itself & his 2 AEW PPV matches speak volumes more than any tv promo or social media roast ever could!
Best match of the night.
I don't understand why they had to screw up the end of the match with that fake injury work, especially since we can see Danielson landing perfectly well during the move. I hope it has a purpose in the future otherwise it will have only served to steal a 100% clean victory away from Ospreay.

Triple H might have main evented like 7 WrestleManias, won countless world titles, was a part of two defining stables in two different era's, been in some of the biggest programs in wrestling history, might have proven proven to be a very talented person inside and outside of the ring, might be in charge of WWE at the moment, but… how many 9-star bangers has he had? If you’d asked me how many episodes of aew I’ve watched in the last year the answer is 0 but here and there I tune into their paper views cause pretty much everyone I’ve seen has been amazing I am so glad I tuned into this paper view dynasty and once again just like Osprey vs Omega 1 and 2 this match Osprey vs Bryan was probably the best match I’ve ever seen that match is the exact reason why Bryan left wwe to come here to do things like that to test himself in the ring to leave everything out there I started watching WWE again towards the end of the pandemic and since then I’ve watched week to week every ple and it’s been amazing but nobody can touch the magic of a Will Osprey match idk this dude is special imo he’s the best wrestler in the world rn

It’s true that the ‘91 Driver is a dangerous move, so I’m not surprised to see it retired, but that’s the point of the story- Ospreay knew he had to go that far to put Bryan “You’ll have to kill me to stop me” Danielson away.
Calling it now - We’ll see it again at Wembley when Ospreay beats Swerve for the World Title (notice how Will was laying the groundwork for that, talking about how he and Swerve were on the indies together? Long term storytelling!)

This guy is the best wrestler in the world? At which aspect of wrestling? All sorts of delusion is needed on his part to truly feel like he's above Hunter in any capacity that matters in professional wrestling.
