This is very similar to the wars in the Middle East. At least the idea of a Red Vietnam died, but it was not technically a military victory for the US.

Honestly, most of Vietnam doesn't really like Americans at all. They're only nice when there's income from tourism and this is true for quite a lot of Asian countries. The only people who kind of have embraced the West are the Japanese and to lesser extent the Singaporeans.
