I love your videos, you're a great teacher and wrench turner. If or when I need crank servicing on my 1.25 pin xb12 crank you'll be getting her for sure. Thanks so much!

Excellent video mate, just one suggestion i wana make is that please wear gloves when dealing with any kind of solvents and engine oil etc as our skin can absorb these nasty things if you do it regularly and they can accumulate insise your body over time causing health issues. Overall a quality video. Cheers

does the entire housing come out on the 91 sportster
I took off all four screws and the gerators came out but the drive gear is still engaged on the pinion

Very informative - Thanks ! Researching this as my 97 S1 is spewing oil out what I think is the crankcase breather port, hose is marked "to oil pump" and it isnt rideable with the amount of discharge at this point ... symptom indicates drastic wet sumping - any help in diagnosing this appreciated - Buy the new 07 version pump and go from there?

Got the pump out today Dan, and found that the inner feed rotor has some small scratches on but not the outer. Should this be fine? Bike runs well but its an 02 chop and I've stripped it down for a rebuild.

When changing to the bronze oil pump gear, is it possible to remove the cam cover without accidentally pulling a cam out of its bushing profile? Or do you have to release spring pressure from the top end every time?

Removing the cam box cover without first removing the rocker boxes (thus taking the valve spring pressure off the cams) is a risky thing to do and not something we condone at all. And if you're changing the oil pump drive gear, you're going to need the pressure off anyway, because otherwise the pinion gear is under load.

Copy that. Thanks for the input. I kinda figured that, but still wanted to know if there was a way to cheat the system on that upgrade install! Thanks again! Love your support. 👍

I opened up a 07 XB9R and the oil pump gears were stripped and metal went into the pump and seized it up. The large pump gear was cracked and it didn’t have the spacer plate. Maybe the missing plate caused the pump to swell and crack then the drive gears stripped. My question is why is there no metal screen over the intake hole to keep metal out of the pump in case those drive gears shred off ?

If I went and purchased an oil pump at the dealer, do I need to disassemble it to get oil into the gears the way you did?

You should note the service wear limits on the gerators is .004 according to the 91-92 XLH factory service manual

The Cometic gasket kit I got had an O-ring that was larger than the oil pump housing itself. It did have a proper sized mounting metal gasket, but the housing o-ring was way too big. Makes me wonder what the hell is goin on there at Cometic. Look for youself, Dennis Kirk has a picture of the oil pump gasket kit A09-I02 part number 26-6498 .. the size discrepancy is obvious.
Update: Problem solved, this occured summer of 2021, new picture and package shows proper size o-ring now. But I still cant figure out what Harley Davidson oil pump or anything for that matter, that this larger o-ring that Cometic sent me along with the coated metal gasket fits on.

@3:00 Does this mean that the new 07 pumps and parts are backward compatible to at 91 pump? Thanks,

Too bad HD didn't change the the part # -98 -07 all have the -91 prefix. I got to big bike salvage dealer here for a 07 n pump for my 96 how will i know unless Pinwall tags the pump on what yr bike it came out of ... ugh, do they even know about the 07 upgrade.
