Outside the south Asian community, there is very little awareness that a cricket World Cup is going on. Most are not even aware that the two North American countries have cricket teams participating let alone the names of the players. It seems these days every sport , be it F1 , soccer or cricket wants to host some event in US to grab the $$ . Don’t think Cricket is going to be a mainstream US sport anytime soon.
It's the same situation with American football or Baseball. No other countries outside the America really know about it or bother to care. Does it make less of an importance if suppose it's World cup is hosted in the subcontinent?

Now the chess coverage has also increased. Many channels or organizations are worked in that direction for many years and covid gave a boost to that and we can see the fruit now. You need fans. Candidates was hosted in Canada and ppl there weren't aware even though there are chess clubs but mostly locals didn't know. Without fans, no coverage will be fruitful. They know the audience that cricket have bcz Joe Rogan was talking about it and few other popular podcasters were talking about popularity of cricket and Indian cricketers. They were building the base for some time.
