Sammy wasn't the reason they lost. If the goalie holds it down to 1 goal, it's 100% on the skaters and it doesn't matter what the goal looked like.

You guys don’t understand goaltending. I don’t agree with what samsonov did but that’s what they’re taught. He was deep bc he was anchoring his skate on the post so he could rvh and stop any potential loose puck in front of him. He clearly didn’t see it all the way bc he doesn’t move. Also if you think it’s a good idea to stand up and make saves in 2024 please just shut up😂

1 for 21 on the powerplay, 40 million dollar core that disappears and they're blaming the 3.5 million dollar goaltender...........🤣🤣🤣🤣
Samsonov played exactly as well as a 3.5 million dollar goalie should.
You want Vasilevsky or Bobrovsky caliber playoff goaltending?..............WELL YOU GOTTA PAY THEM!
9.5 million for Vasilevsky , 10 million for Bobrovsky.
Oh that's right the Leafs don't have that kind of money, cause they invested it into scoring BUT CAN'T SCORE.
Swayman makes 3.475 but his contract is up, does anyone think his next contract will be 3.475?

    • @hagamapama

Actually Samsonov played WAY better than a 3.5 million dollar goalie should. Because a 3.5 mil goaltender gives up 3 goals.
Sammy stood on his head in game 7 and was arguably the best Leaf on the ice, the fact that he's still getting crapped on is Exhibit A in why people think leaf fans don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Marner is also just getting onto the ice on a change on the fly, as Pasta is circling and accelerating with full crossovers. Marner's got no play to make on it, sorry. And there was a lot of that changing on the fly for the Leafs in game 7, which resulted in guys out of position on numerous occasions. And you know why? Samsonov gives too many easy goals. Woll hurt too much. Goaltending was a problem all season and management didn't fix it. BUT the goalscorers also disappeared. 12 goals in 7 games when Goaltending is shaky and defense is suspect is not enough. Time to add some character to this team. Too many poster boys, not enough grit.

How many times have our goalies cost us the game? We have a littany of goalies going back to 2013 that completely failed us. You will not win the Stanley Cup without good goaltending. If Samsanov stands out more rather than backing in that puck doesn't go in. Let's just face the fact that the hockey gods weren't with us right from the get go. We finally get great goaltending withh Woll in net and we lose him for the most critical game. Anybody know why Woll didn't play? Haven't heard anything about his injury. Did Boston go after him based on his previous injury? What play caused the injury? Boston will make it through because of their goaltending. No other goalie is playing at his level.

  • @johntapscott4528
    @johntapscott4528 4 місяці тому

Inconsistent and shaky goaltending has been the biggest reason for the recent Leafs losses in the playoffs except for the Florida series where the whole team was overwhelmed. Reimer, Andersen, Samsonov - all outplayed by the winning team’s netminder. I’ll tell you - if Carey Price had been given a 1-0 lead in Game 7, there’s no way a puck would have got by him. The Leaf goaltenders have just not had that mindset.
So yes, lots of changes have to be made, but start in goal. Woll MIGHT be the answer, but he seems injury prone. Need someone else.

    • @hagamapama
      @hagamapama 4 місяці тому

Goaltender is the least of your problems. An average goaltener gives up 3 goals a game. Samsonov gave up 1. Woll is a good backup but doesn't seem to have the durability to start, he's better as a great backup than he would be as a starter. Lots of goalies like that in the game today, doing well in 1 playoff series isn't gonna change the overall picture.
One of the dumbest things you can do as a team is overreact to short term playoff heroics. I guarantee you, for example, that Linus Ulmark starts the first game of the regular season next year regardless of Swayman's playoffs heroics. Just to give an example of what a team with some idea what the hell they're doing handles these things.

The problems with this Leafs team (2015/2016-present) goes beyond goaltending and defense. This has to be a culture problem with the Toronto front office, the fans, the players themselves. Theres no reason for a team stacked with so much talent to consistently fail time after time. The fact that Freddy Andersen was your best goalie for most of that stretch and yall never did anything with it, it is a disservice to the man and im glad hes doing better with Carolina. Leafs fans will point the finger anywhere but where the problem lies. The Leafs probelm is culture and leadership, you dont have a captain, you dont have team culture, you dont have unity between your players, and it all culminates in the pathetic playoff performances. Auston Matthews will never be a leader to take you to a cup, hes proven it countless times. Marner never deserved the contract he got, neither did Nylander. You have a team run by greedy men, not hockey players looking to be a part of a team.

Don't blame Sammy for the 3rd period goal. Way too may uncovered Bruins around the crease ie Brazeau, so Sammy has to play accordingly. #1 issue is Leafs running around in their own end, and #34 and #44 not making crucial block even with that positioning.

  • @brianhren1760

The Leafs better think twice about trading Marner he hes a gifted playmaker that can make tape to tape passes and can kill penalties. He's probably the best 200 ft player on the team .If not for Marner there is no way Mathews gets 69 goals he probably gets around 50. The only knock on Marner is he is too soft for playoff Style hockey. I think the solution is to somehow get rid of Tavares and use that cap space to get Marner a big hard-hitting Winger or center to play alongside with him in the playoffs to protect him and give him the space he needs to make those passes

    • @hagamapama
      @hagamapama 4 місяці тому

Not really about Marner, it's about the Leafs have too much money tied up in forwards and they need to free up some cap space SOMEWHERE to rebuild their defense.
One of the reasons for the lack of scoring is that they can't generate offense from the blue line. That means that the forwards are constantly skating 3 on 5 because the defense isn't contributing offensively.
Marner isn't bad, but the team can't afford him AND make the necessary improvements to other areas of the roster. He's got to go. It's not his fault but he's got to go. And they probably also need to look at one of Nylander and Taveras for elimination too just to make sure they can add the players they need to add.

Leafs Core are addicted to game 7 third period lead collapses. They just come naturally to this Leaf Core 4.
In their minds - this Leafs Core 4 just know - they will always lose to the Bruins in game 7 of these playoff series. 😀 That is why Marner stopped back checking and gave the Bruins their OT goal. It is all on Marner this loss.

I think both the non-call against Shattenkirk and Bertuzzi were correct if you go back and look closely. Both falls weren't caused by the sticks and in Shattenkirk's case he hit the puck first, so it wouldn't be a penalty shot either way.

I would argue that if the Leaf's had an elite goaltender they would have a won a few of these game 7's and series they were up in. Carey Price was the better goalie in the last 3 games. Tampa Bays goalie outplayed the Leaf's goalie in one series. They aren't scoring enough and they don't have an elite goalie.

@@HighAltitudeMMA Lot of Bruins fans in Atlantic Canada.
Maritimers have a lot more in common with New England than with the great big Quebec that exists between them and the rest of English Canada which kinda creates a unique environment over here.
New England and the Maritimes could legit form their own nation together and it'd be a more accurate reflection of where the two regions are culturally than the current one.
Lots of Maritimers dip over to the States for stuff that's cheaper on the other side of the border. Lots of New Englanders and Maritimers intermarry. Two of my best friends are Americans with Canadian wives. It's been like that literally for centuries with people crossing the border to work, marrry, shop and live as if the border weren't even there.

Meanwhile Toronto's PWHL team begins their Walker Cup playoffs this Wednesday at Coca Cola Coliseum against an opponent of their choosing. Leafs fans if they are hockey fans should now be fans of their PWHL team as they have strong odds of winning the first ever Walker Cup. Unless, hockey fans are sexist in the sense they will only watch and be fans of men's hockey and won't be fans of the PWHL as well. I feel sorry for the women as the only time the media and fans care about women hockey players is during the Olympics. Other than that fans and media don't care about women's hockey as well, which defeats the purpose of having a pro women's hockey league in the first place.

Here's the thing with that first Boston goal ...
Samsonov was squared up for the shot.
    He was ready.
That goal wasn't some great play making by Boston, or some surprise skill move.
It was a guy with the puck, who is not a goal scorer, shooting on an NHL playoff starting goalie.
All Sammy had to do was read the play and move to the edge of the crease to challenge the shot.
He did the exact wrong thing.
    Think about that.
Here's the thing with that second Boston goal ...
Marner is not the problem there.
He risks an interference penalty if he obstructs Pasta, and he gets himself out of position if he follows Pasta.
Rielly could have dove for the puck and disrupted Pasta's path to the net, once he realized Samsonov failed to read and react to the play correctly.
But this is all on Samsonov, as once again failed to correctly read the play and make the right choice to aggressively play the puck.
You rely on the goalie to read the play and make the proper positional decision.
    He failed once again.
How do we expect the Leafs to play and win, when the team can't depend on their goalie to make the most basic of saves?
Samsonov IS the reason they lost.
The goalie has responsibilities as a team member.
The goalie needs to be a goalie when the team needs the goalie.
    Samsonov failed his responsibility.
Samsonov does not know how to read plays.
Goalie management is a coaching issue.
    Keefe should have started Jones.
