Celtic Woman - The New Ground - Isle Of Hope, Isle Of Tears

- On The First Day On January,
Eighteen Ninety-Two,
They Opened Ellis Island And They Let
The People Through.
And The First To Cross The Treshold
Of That Isle Of Hope And Tears,
Was Annie Moore From Ireland
Who Was All Of Fifteen Years.
[Chorus:]
Isle Of Hope, Isle Of Tears,
Isle Of Freedom, Isle Of Fears,
But It's Not The Isle You Left Behind.
That Isle Of Hunger, Isle Of Pain,
Isle You'll Never See Again
But The Isle Of Home Is Always On Your Mind.
In A Little Bag She Carried
All Her Past And History,
And Her Dreams For The Future
In The Land Of Liberty.
And Courage Is The Passport
When Your Old World Disappears
But There's No Future In The Past
When You're Fifteen Years
[Chorus]
When They Closed Down Ellis Island
In Nineteen Fourty-Three,
Seventeen Million People
Had Come There For Sanctuary.
And In Springtime When I Came Here
And I Stepped Onto It's Piers,
I Thought Of How It Must Have Been
When You're Fifteen Years.
[Chorus]
This song is the most powerful and inspiring song. And still remains one of my favorite songs of all time. 😊
Those pipes 😭😭😭😭 i swear this instrument was made for touching a persons soul. love the sound of them. love celtic woman alot wish i could see them live.
i saw them live and they r one of the best celtic group ever
Love this song! My grandpa emigrated to Ellis Island from Hungary, so this song means a lot to me!
this is a gorgeous, nostalgic song. My ancestors were immigrants to America, and I am so thankful for this country, where hard work is rewarded. this song makes me cry.
The pipes at 1:23 . . . Longing for home, yearning for peace, rest, wholeness. It gets me every time.
I went to Ireland over the summer, and the place that Annie Moore came from, think very highly of her. And the sing this song quite a lot. There is a statue of her and her two little brothers in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. And I heard the song a lot in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland.
My ancestors came from England, Scotland, and Switzerland, not through Ellis Island but this song still touches me very much.
Same here
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It is helping me get through the pandemic!
The pipes in this song are so haunting. I can feel them calling from across time and space bringing me back to the land of my ancestors. There's so much passion in bag pipe music. My wife is from the Philippines and does not feel the calling of the pipes so i know it's either in your blood or not.
+Thomas Stevens I'm Belgian, but I definitely feel the calling of the pipes :)
+Thomas Stevens it's also in my blood but not in my BF's blood..... yet he likes it and understands it.
So i have to agree with The Belgian Traveler, this music just hits you or not.
It doesn't have to be related to you by blood but by emotion.
i know what you mean cause my grandma and mother r from ireland and they cry when hearing this song and other ones as well but my GF is not irish but the thing is she gets a heart touching feeling
Hi! I would disagree with what you said about marrying a Filipina will forever destroy his Irish heritage when it comes to their children. He could still pass it on to the kids, tho it's better is the wife appreciates it too. Lastly, it still depends on the personality of the person, because I'm from the Philippines but I'm deeply attached to anything Celtic, and yes, the sound of pipes is music to my soul. (P.S. that's why I'm here, I'm actually confused which really is the isle of hope? they said it's not the isle you left behind, but there's just so much love for Ireland in this song >_
The Isle of Hope would be referring to Ellis Island
I annoyed the crap out of my friends by singing this ALL DAY. I posted it on Facebook just so they would understand why I love this song so much. (Also so they didn't think I'd lost my mind)
Proud To Be Irish !!
I know that this has been around a while but having just recently heard it i am blown away. As a German born immigrant living in the America I cant really remember coming here as i was a small child but i can imagine the feelings. As a musician who lives by the idea of music transcending all barriers this hits my heart is a truly touching way. And as a military veteran who has heard the " pipes calling" so to speak the idea that fighting for and defending the freedom of opportunity that this song represents so eloquently is exactly why I served. This song makes me cry happy tears
I am Italian, not Irish, but I am going to move to the US in two weeks.. and this song gives me very deep feelings.. sadness for what I am going to leave, hope for what I am going to get, and I can distinctly see myself walking the path that many of my fellow countrymen walked in the last century.. away from home, towards opportunity..
This is true music. The power to reach beyond the physical sense and reach to your very soul. The power that sends chills racing up your arms and down your spine. That one note that pulses through and brings forth the tears. That is true music and that is what this music creates.
I don't know how many generations of Irish I am, but I hear this song and it makes me want to go to Ireland, I've never been there before. The power of music with blood is a very powerful thing.
I heard someone singing that for the first time last night and this version Is the best on UA-cam. Lovely song.
I can`t stop listening to this song, it touches my heart and the feeling of homesick is worse than before..... Great song !!!
That bagpipe really pulls at my heartstrings

The Celtic Woman has the most accomplished voice on the planet!! If you're seeking perfection in a voice listen here!! As I was a teacher, I would mark her as 100%.
My great grandmother came from Ireland, and now I know that I will be the one to go back to this wonderful country. Thank you Celtic Woman for this most beautiful song.

Yay! Thank you! I would never be who I am today if it weren't for America, and all the people who had come to America over seas, Irish, German, Italian, and some Native American is strong in my bloodline! We are many nations brought together! :)

how can people dislike this
+Tana Giberson Dumb people are everywhere. Don't be mad at them, pity them instead.
only thing I can think of is the long instrumental at the beginning and did not listion through the whole song
??But the long instrumental is gorgeous!
Rap fans
@@danielryno3896 I also like rap
Gave me goose bumps - literally - head to toe.
How could people dislike this?! Its a beautiful song that has a story to tell. Plus its like a history lesson but WAY more interesting.
A beautiful, timeless song! Anyone who says America is stupid, and it's people are uneducated or whatever, needs to look back in history and realize how many people came here from different countries to get a new start in life! So many foreign people appreciate the opportunities America has given them, and we can't let that die!
Ahloa I’m shanebearddj I just love this music 🎵 wow I’m moved
the first time i lisent to it it made me cry
that happened to my mother when she heard this song and almost made me cry which is every hard to do and we were both from ireland
Does that to me too, this version and others by Celtic Woman
and Chloë Agnew-I listen to them a lot.
The song is magic; I am second generation Finnish-American. I see & sense the grandparents I never met in this song.
This made me kind of depressed. I feel like I've lost someone.. Beautiful, but brings deep feelings..
I love this song. When I first heard it, I thought they were saying "I love hope. I love tears. I love freedom. I love fears."
Such a beautiful song really amazing ^^
I've been singing this song from memory since I saw them perform it once at the last Celtic Woman concert I was able to go to (two years ago about). I listened to it now and can't believe I was able to remember it exactly from hearing it only once. I'm buying this song right away, it's my favorite one by far. :)

Bring me to tears. I have no fears.
Im so proud to be Irish
Ellis Island was closed in November of 1954. Reality is even though the date is wrong this is the best version of this song I have ever heard.
sarah Hobbs notice it was almost exactly a decade after world war II. My grandfather survived the Holocaust as a little boy but ten millions of others, including one of his brothers, sister in law and their children weren't as lucky. This war touched every single human being on earth, including the people who opened and then closed down Ellis island so, I guess they held on to that hope until they just had to let it slip through their fingers, which makes the phrase "there's no future in the past" even more important to this story. Just something to think about.
Ellis Island stopped processing immigrants from Europe in 1924. From 1924 - 1954 it was used to process/hold detainees and refugees.
live they are insane!!
so amazing....its not just that the music is so perfect....also the lyrics
The way they sing is very touching
this is such an amazing song
so beautiful
No other word sums this up than "beautiful"
Wow never heard this one before, beautiful and such powerful images. My grandfather came to America from Denmark through Ellis Island when he was 19. He said he felt like the Statue of Liberty was looking down her nose at his home spun clothes
Ya. Back then, in that situation, the big statue may have seemed a little intimidating
Ahloa I’m shanebearddj awesome music
I love this music!
I love this song!
i dont men to sound like a girl but this song really tugs at the heart especially that i am a immigrant from Ireland
beautiful song
Fun fact: saying you have a soul does not automatically make you sound "like a girl"
Some of my ancestors are originally from Ireland so this song tugs at my heart too.
this song makes me cry sometimes
In memory of my 2 bffs
I hope you have safely arrived. Welcome to America
1,000th like!!! :D
angels voice realy!!!!!!
this song makes me miss USA of the old. When the values of the Founding Fathers were witheld. When America was the Land Of Opportunities.I wouldn't mind setting my feet on Ellis Island.
Celtic Woman - The New Ground - Isle Of Hope, Isle Of Tears
Wow great quality. Thank you very much :)
I know this video is several years old, but when I saw them live at the verizon theater in Grand Prairie, TX. they did this song and I can't remember if it was this song or Oh America song that, at the end of it, the bag pipes was playing Amazing Grace.. Oh I got goosebumps and shills running down my spine when hearing it and talking about it I have it again. It was so powerful. And the best, amazing part about it was that the audience was singing amazing grace. ohh man that was so awesome. one of the best concerts I have ever been too.
just love this song :D
Some people don't know what's beauty!
how did 2 people hate this song it makes me cry when i hear it

But you're right, it's an amazing song. Gotta love Celtic Woman.

This song took my heart away....
Last year I went to Grosse Île and that reminds me of that song because this song talks about Ellis island which they are similar
at first i thought theysuck but they are very good
this song let me remind from the movie brave and titanic
@jettiesgirl She wasnt a girl a bit older named Ellie was! but i love this song so much and am getting a Solo! in our scool plaY1
that is my brother say all the time
"how can you like this music"
Ahloa I’m shanebearddj I love it so so much
@venica99 It should be long because the "intro" is actually a whole other song entitled, "The New Ground" (written by David Downes). "Isle of Hope Isle of Tears" (written by Brendam Graham) begins when Chloe starts her singing.
My ancestors are first from France then migrated to Ireland then to the USA.
when i hear this song it makes want 2 cry :_(
She opened a door which I never knew...Allow a moment and I'll see it through
