great video ,very informative , one thing about gaz prices : in morocco a gaz bottle will not last 3 months , its 1 month at best for a family of 4 ( which is average ) and we usually have 2 bottles at the same time , one for cooking and the other for showers
I have lived in Rabat for almost ten years. I can say from personal experience that I change my gas bottle every three months. I can almost time it to the day - certainly the week. That is my personal experience that is almost a decade long. Obviously, if you are a family, the bottle is not going to last as long, but as a single person, with a decade of personal experience, I can say my claim is true.

Great video. To be honest I was waiting for more comparisons like private school (which is a must nowadays for Moroccans) and also in terms of individual income and minimum wage. As a Moroccan, I've noticed that in Europe you get 3 times more than the salary you may get in Morocco with the same work/experience. With that, I guess having 3 times the income of a Moroccan can cover the high expenses in the UK, but it's hard to survive with the Moroccan salary in Morocco with those prices.

Well what makes life is a bit expensive in Morocco is when you want to consume foreign market like cars electronics and so on, so for example buying a phone, tv, motorcycle, its many times average salary here, and also the public school it sucks so you have to give your half salary for your 2 kids for private school, And also used cars are hell expensive. I think the good combination is to work in uk and save money and back to morocco buy a house and start a business
if the price remaind the same people in Morocco would have been happier than ever, the living quality here is below bad, unemployment levels has incredibly increased in the start of 2023. even I who's speaking got sustainable heavy damages during this crisis, No jobs, high prices, public education teachers are getting canceled, the daily living here is only suitable for the rich. anyways thanks Gari for making sure everyone is having a good quality life.
I would say Morocco is a very good option if someone in Europe wants to live here, it offers good climate, delicious food, beautiful nature, and most importantly, it is very cheap. Although it's a bit "tough" to get things here (the gaz bottles for example), it still remains a good destination where you can find most of what you need for a very cheap price.
the stated prices for things like food and travel can vary widely depending on the location, coffee for example in my city is still at 7 dh for almost every cafe you will stumble upon, food is mostly uniform in price except in a major city like rabat where it is expected to cost a dirham extra per kg, same for gas, and bus (which is 3.5 dirhams in fes) price can go up or down by a dirham depending on the location. and finally on wifi a fiber 20mbit/s is 250 dirhams and up, most of the population has the 20mbit package. all in all you could as someone comming from europe, easily go even cheaper than what is stated in the video. great video.
It's true that you can go cheaper. I made the decision to go with the high end of prices in Morocco and the low end of prices in the UK, so people know that is about the closest the financial gap between the two countries. I could have chosen a small village in Morocco and London in the UK, but I don't think that would have been as helpful.
I’m buying a flat in Tetouan for £60000. Will be retiring in Morocco in 5 years time. Preparing early before prices go up as we get closer to the World Cup 2030 when Morocco will be cohosting this wonderful sporting event. Morocco 🇲🇦 is a great value and developing country.

Thank you for this great documentary. Public health doctors; nurses, police at all levels; Ouvrier; waiter; taxi driver; public transport drivers….. I think!
I would love to do a profession comparison. I think the teacher one would be possiblw with some orgainisation. The one I really want to do is the police comparison.

Those bottles of gas don't last 3 months, they barely last a month bcz they're used for cooking, and people tend to have two or 3 bottles at home for the purpose of heating water in the bathrooms for showers so it's not that cheep

Gaz in Morocco is subsidized by the state but it will be changed soon. No subsidy for all the people . Only people with limited incomes can receive a check to help them to buy gaz, and the price of bottle gaz will grow up significantly.
Gas bottle costs 42dh and not 45dh and the government announced that from 2024 to 2026 it will increase by 10 dh each year to eventually cost 72 dh. The gas bottle do not last 3 months but only 20 days to a month on average.

if the price remaind the same people in Morocco would have been happier than ever, the living quality here is below bad, unemployment levels has incredibly increased in the start of 2023. even I who's speaking got sustainable heavy damages during this crisis, No jobs, high prices, public education teachers are getting canceled, the daily living here is only suitable for the rich. anyways thanks Gari for making sure everyone is having a good quality life.
I know I am in a lucky position in Morocco.

@@newage6764 Yes i agree in this point, although it is progressing slowly. That is one of the reasons why Morocco's HDI is low.

HHHHHHHHHHHH@@GariSullivan
@@GariSullivan but why?
12:32 its actually the opposite ... the cost of living increased massively while the wages staying the same .
the stated prices for things like food and travel can vary widely depending on the location, coffee for example in my city is still at 7 dh for almost every cafe you will stumble upon, food is mostly uniform in price except in a major city like rabat where it is expected to cost a dirham extra per kg, same for gas, and bus (which is 3.5 dirhams in fes) price can go up or down by a dirham depending on the location. and finally on wifi a fiber 20mbit/s is 250 dirhams and up, most of the population has the 20mbit package.
all in all you could as someone comming from europe, easily go even cheaper than what is stated in the video. great video.

About gaz.. it's freezing in Uk so don't be so surprised! In Morocco it's mostly used for cooking
For the gas bottles in Morocco just a quick update it will not remain the same price £3.60, it will rise to approximately £5 knowing that in winter one single bottle lasts for two and a half weeks

To cover the 4 corners, a comparison of the Yearly net income is a must; only living cost is half the truth; what you earn dictate what you can spend: try at least a comparison in the following professions: Teacher highschool; College; university. Public health doctors; nurses, police at all levels; Ouvrier; waiter; taxi driver; public transport drivers…..
I think!
I would love to do a profession comparison. I think the teacher one would be possiblw with some orgainisation. The one I really want to do is the police comparison.
well, we don't use heaters and AC as much as in the UK, probably one of the main reasons there is a big difference in spending
I think that might be a factor, but also the basic cost per unit is higher in the UK than in Morocco.
The sun in Morocco is 300 days per year. the sun in UK is 80 days per year. that is worth lot for your brighter day . beaches in Morocco are abundant with 7 months swim while the UK has max 45 days.....

There's not such thing called TV licence in Morocco
We have electricity bill nearly 200 Dh a month and in the UK the smallest electricity mount you can pay is around 80 pound if you are using it carefully.
Also we do have council tax and yearly my family pays 1000 Dh a year and I pay for council tax 142 pound a month
Bus fare here in Cardiff is 2.40 pound for a single in Morocco is 5Dh .
Incomein Morocco : we have VAT which is 20%
Income in the UK: 20% VAT + National insurance + Pension
There is a hug gab f cost of living between Morocco and the UK.
It's extremely expensive here.
Rent in Morocco : 1000 Dh you can have two bedroom flat
Rent in the UK: one bedroom flat is nearly 1000 pound
Huge gap
Have great day gari and enjoy the sunshine in Morocco 😊

Those bottles of gas don't last 3 months, they barely last a month bcz they're used for cooking, and people tend to have two or 3 bottles at home for the purpose of heating water in the bathrooms for showers so it's not that cheep
depends on your usage for them, and although the price didn't rise, the volume definitely dropped.
As a single person living in Morocco, I strongly disagree with your claim. My bottle ALWAYS lasts me about three months. I can almost predict to the day when my bottle will need replacing. I have lived in Morocco for ten years. Bottle after bottle and year after year, I need to replace them every three months.
I agree with the video yes for expats Morocco will be great as your money will go a long way and better life. However a Moroccan on 3000 dh will struggle a lot that’s why they credit with shops etc . Also medical is expensive in Morocco I personally think you could live very comfortably in morocco with 1000gbp a month. That’s everything covered whereas here in the uK that will just about pay your monthly rent

you saying a monthly food bill for a single person in the UK is £250 at 6:47 for someone very careful with their money is crazy... That's around what my mom pays for the 3 of us and we eat more than enough... and you saying that bus fares are capped at £2 is also off for where I live as a bus trip will set you back around £4.60

First thanks and million thanks for this precious comparison between the two countries, this is equally important for folks from Great Britain who are planning to visit our country Morocco, so they can plan their financial situation ahead of time.
However, just a little remark regarding the cost of living here in Morocco as opposed to England, and that is the difference in purchasing power here in Morocco, which is depending primarily on wages, and salaries, and also the pricing, which is also determined by the size of the economy here in Mirocco Vs the size of its pair in Egland....!
Nevertheless, it is very important and very educational comparison...
