They could probably do it with all of the translations of the letters in plain sight, given that a lot of us normies can't tell the difference between dots and dashes when given at normal speed. That would at least give them a chance.
It would be great for an episode for Rhett and Link to try to narrate a story a native deaf person is telling!! The story-telling skills among the deaf community are unmatched. :)
Yes! They're so descriptive and compelling and often very humorous - all without words. I'm very much a beginner ASL student yet I feel like I understand every word my Deaf professor is signing when she's telling a story.
haha I didn't know this was difficult not to do. I've been learning ASL, and I have a super hard time saying the words while signing. I've just been signing and then tell my bf what I said.
Almost no one uses international sign language in their daily life though. I don’t even know if regular deaf people understands it. It’s an incomplete language that is only supposed to be used at special occasions.
This, but as a game of telephone!!! Something like, the signer to a Spanish speaker, to a German speaker to a drawer to the message interpreter. I think that would bring hilarity.😂
I got my first lifeguarding job at the local school for the deaf. My mom was so proud that for Christmas she bought me a new whistle. Me: Thanks, Mom. But, where do I work?
as a hard-of-hearing person born to deaf parents, im pretty happy that you guys wanted to do an episode with ASL although ASL depends mostly on what region you’re in most of the time, so everyone’s signs are not always the same interestingly enough I do sometimes find myself asking my mother a sign for a word if I don’t know how to sign it
Please make this a regular game! not only would it be funny but it would help people like me (who has a family that signs), I would REALLY appreciate seeing more of this not only for the DHH inclusion but also for people to be more aware//learn sign!!
I HARD agree with this! I want to learn sign language so bad to be able to communicate with a whole community that I haven't been able to. My friends dad is deaf so I know a little bit but not nearly enough and I think even just watching more videos like this could help me pick up on a few things!
I was gonna say the same thing! I think they’d find the language and culture interesting. And it’s always good for more people to be educated on these things!
Great episode! It would be super cool if you could do another one and get a Deaf person to do the signing. 😊 Native singers can really do some amazing depiction and storytelling that would be great to see.
This! Respect to Anton but his signing leaned a little PSE. ASL is very illustrative, and I think it would’ve been so cool to see how much more information a native Deaf signer could give them just by virtue of being more expansive and vivid in their signing.

Very cool episode! Alas... ASL wasn't made in America. We actually went over to the U.K. to ask them if we could learn their sign language, but they wanted monetary compensation. A French representative was there and offered to teach us for free, thus American Sign Language is actually French in origin. 😁
In all fairness, FSL merged with indigenous sign languages and home signs in America to become the ASL of back then, and then it has drastically changed over the centuries to become uniquely ASL. ASL as we know it today IS distinctly *American.* Also slight correction, but sign languages did already exist in the US at the time. Gallaudet went to Europe to learn about how to educate deaf children. Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc mainly helped establish schools for the deaf in the US, which then “standardized” sign language more and naturally gave it heavy French influence bc of Clerc.
@@Cynthiaaagghh I appreciate the clarity!! My son is deaf, and his teacher explained it to me in very rough terms! Yup, the guy who signed is great for his FAMILY but not for being broadcast to millions. They should have hired a Deaf person for sure. The inaccuracy was super frustrating as a CODA and interpreter. My Deaf dad and siblings agreed.
