Looooved this episode. I could listen to Kenneth and Susan all day long as the conversation and discussion flows so naturally, which makes them so easy to listen to. I would love to soak up more of their expert knowledge - please get them back regularly! Laughed out loud at Kenneth's use of children's flannelette!
That was such an enjoyable podcast - thank you for sharing. It's made me subscribe to threads. I particularly enjoyed how grounded Kenneth and Susan were. I'm only an enthusiastic basic amateur sewer, but I enjoyed there comments very much, and enjoy sewing immensely. Greetings from Mold, North Wales UK. 🙋♂
Hi! I hope you had a delightful day. I just got my first chance to sit down and watch your video because it has been a fun sewing day for me. I hope you have a lovely week ahead. Thank you for sharing your video and your talent.
I just found this and I love that you said we all can "dress up". I love to sew and I love that you sew the way you do so I can feel comfortable wearing more than jeans and tee shirts. I love to wear my own Chanel jacket with my jeans or silk skirt. I love Threads and I love ASG because it brought me back to sewing after about thirty years of working in the world! Thank you all for reigniting my passion for sewing!
It was definitely odd that Kim Kardashian was allowed to wear Marilyn’s dress. They don’t let modern celebs wear famous outfits that old Hollywood celebs wore years ago. And since the garment was dyed to Marilyn’s exact skin color obviously Kim didn’t match since she’s not as pale. They should have sewn an exact replicate. Also, I’ve seen Kenneth’s items at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and loved them!
Thanks for the storage advice. i inherited a black silk jersey dress by Jean Paquin from the 1940's which i have been keeping on a hanger with a plastic bag over!
This is indeed unfortunate! Kim Kardashian not only doesn’t have the figure for it, she also doesn’t have the personality for a Marilyn Monroe dress or even vintage style at all. It was a tasteless thing for her to do, but beyond that, she has destroyed a piece of history for a photo-op! It says a lot about who she is….
Great video! I would be interested in hearing a discussion on a related topic of historical dress recreations and ethics/considerations there. A good example of this discussion would be Cathy Hay's research and process for the "Peacock Dress" by Worth. Where is our responsibilities as makers (either lay or professional)?
As affluent as Kardashian is why couldn't she have the fabric made to her skin tone and have a replica dress made? Good grief so greedy for attention even the dead aren't off limits.
I hate that the original garment was ruined, however I actually think the ruined garment is newly educational for what it says about Marilyn's place in history and Kim K's desire to connect to that. So while the original is lost, the result is fascinating.
Why is anyone surprised that Kim Kardashian would do something so tacky as to wear an irreplaceable Marilyn Monroe dress so fragile one wearing by a person who had to be stuffed into it would destroy it?
I was appalled and disgusted. That creature was not worthy to wear a piece of important history. It's a one off worn by someone large in history, at a culturally significant event, out of specific fabric. As to historic garments, there comes a time when the fabric is too fragile for wear. I'm of the opinion that if the garment is in good condition, not too old and you treat it carefully, you can wear it. But it is a limited time you can wear it. As a re-enactor I laugh at your 7.5 yards. I've had houppelandes at 10 yds. I've worn some of my Byzantine out and many fols thought it was old Ungaro ;-D
I was so disgusted that Ripleys let this happen. With all the talent and ability to recreate garments or accessories why they would put Kim Kardashian in such a historical dress make me sick. I’m surprised she didn’t wear dorothy’s ruby red slippers
The best of the series! Please get these treasures back as often as possible. So informative and entertaining.
Thanks for sharing a wonderful conversation with two of my favorite folks at Threads!

Fascinating interviews, thank you!
Great conversation. Thank you!
Great conversation! The flannelette-with-bunny-or-ducky-print story is etched in my mind from Kenneth’s class I attended many, many years ago. 🤣
Thank you Threads……so interesting!
Congratulations, this was so entertaining, informative. Greetings guys

I loved this , especially about the armor.

You are so correct vintage garments should be revered.

Lovely to see Susan putting together her MET lunch ...
Great stories 😂😊☺️

Your so right!

Lighten up..
God bless you, Kenneth! The dress wearing the person is never a good look.
If you're looking for good taste, don't look towards the Kardashians.

I was shocked too!
